This Mazda RX-7 FD got away, but there are more like it here.

This 1994 Mazda RX-7 is one of 1,110 US-market examples ordered in Montego Blue Metallic for the model year, and it was purchased new by the seller from Caderoli Mazda of Pleasanton, California. The car is powered by a twin-turbocharged 1.3-liter Wankel rotary mated to a five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Equipment includes a front spoiler, pop-up headlights, fender vents, 16″ wheels, dual exhaust outlets, power windows and mirrors, and a factory AM/FM cassette stereo. Work in December 2019 included replacing the engine, wiring harness, turbochargers, clutch components, and cooling system components. This FD RX-7 is offered with manufacturer’s literature, Mazda sales brochures, service records, spare parts, a car cover, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The car was ordered in Montego Blue Metallic, and it is said to have been refinished due to damage on the right side of the car as a result of a collision. Features include pop-up headlights, a front spoiler, fender vents, and a power-operated antenna. The seller states the front air dam has been replaced with an R2 version, and the front bumper cover has been repaired. Squeeze-cast 16″ five-spoke wheels are mounted with 225/50 Yokohama S Drive tires. The double-wishbone suspension consists of coil springs and dampers at all four corners along with forged aluminum control arms. Braking is provided by four-piston front and two-piston rear calipers with vented rotors. Service performed in 2018 included replacing the front and rear brake rotors, an ABS sensor, and the control arm and toe link bushings.

The cabin features bolstered bucket seats trimmed in black leather upholstery, and additional equipment includes aluminum brake and clutch pedals, dual airbags, power windows and mirrors, and an AM/FM cassette stereo. A factory exhaust temperature warning light is mounted on the center console, and storage compartments are located behind the seats. Wear is visible on the driver’s seat bolster, and the seller states the air conditioning system does not work.

The three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames chrome-ringed instrumentation including a central tachometer with an 8k-rpm redline along with a 180-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The seller states the speedometer intermittently functions. The digital odometer indicates 88k miles. Total mileage is unknown.

The car is powered by a replacement 1.3-liter Wankel rotary engine that was installed in December 2019 at Rick’s Automotive of Pleasanton, California. At that time 1999-specification Efini turbochargers were installed and the cooling system was overhauled with a replacement thermostat, water pump, and coolant hoses. Additional service included replacing the wiring harness, spark plugs, the right-side motor mount, and the pulsation damper. In preparation for the sale, an oil change was performed and the battery was replaced, and the car most recently passed a California emissions test in May 2022.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission and a Gleason Torsen limited-slip differential. The clutch components were replaced as part of the December 2019 service and the differential fluid and muffler were replaced in preparation for the sale.
