This Chevrolet Camaro 4th Generation 1993-2002 got away, but there are more like it here.
This 1996 Chevrolet Camaro SS is a modified T-top coupe in Bright Red over a two-tone cloth interior which remained with its original owner in New York until September 2019. The factory SS package consisted of a 30-horsepower boost over the standard model and a cosmetics package, and additional optional equipment found on this example consists of Stage II suspension with Bilstein shocks, a Hurst shifter, and a performance exhaust system. Power is from a V8 which was stroked to 383ci and rebuilt in 1999 by Dente’s Racing in Deer Park, New York. Other modifications include CNC-ported cylinder heads, a polished Dente intake, and full-length headers feeding a 3.5″ exhaust system with hi-flow catalytic converters. A six-speed manual transmission sends power through a 12-bolt 4.10:1 rear end. This Camaro SS shows 9k miles and is offered by the selling dealer at no reserve with an engine rebuild receipt and photos, a clean Carfax report, owner’s books, and a clean Florida title.
The SS package was available as an upgrade to the Z/28 model, and special equipment was installed under contract by SLP Engineering in Troy, Michigan. This example is finished in Bright Red and features a functional ducted hood, a flared deck lid spoiler, removable glass T-top panels, and SS badging.
A walk-around video can be viewed above, and blemishes are visible on the front bumper cover in gallery close-ups below. Five-spoke 17″ wheels feature SS center caps and are mounted with 275/40 BFGoodrich Comp T/A tires. Baer front brake calipers and cross-drilled rotors are aftermarket additions.
The cockpit is trimmed in grey cloth over power-adjustable seats featuring red center inserts. Matching colors accent the door panels, and SS logo floor mats protect the carpets. Fewer than 2,500 cars are said to have been specified with SS equipment for 1996, and this example is #1,710 according to a plaque on the center console.
Power windows and locks, cruise control, air conditioning, and a factory audio system with a cassette player are equipped. A Hurst shifter was optioned from the factory according to a sticker on the door, and is said to disengage in reverse when not held in place. Just under 9k miles are shown on the mechanical odometer. The rear cargo area includes a dedicated compartment for storing the glass roof panels.
The factory 5.7-liter V8 was rebuilt in 1999 by Dente’s Racing in Deer Park, New York. Displacement was increased to 383ci, and a Woodruff key was fitted to the crankshaft. The engine was reassembled with CNC-ported cylinder heads, a ported and polished intake manifold, and a custom camshaft with roller lifters and an AFR Hydra Rev kit. A factory cold-air intake feeds a Dente’s-branded 58mm throttle body. An itemized invoice and photographs from the work are shown in the gallery below.
The six-speed T-56 transmission routes power to a 12-bolt rear end with 4.10:1 gearing which was installed during the engine modifications. Full-length coated headers route exhaust through 3.5″ piping, a hi-flow catalytic converter, and a single muffler.
The September 2019 Carfax report lists an accident-free history with one previous owner in New York State. A driving video can be viewed below.
