This 1997 Mercury Cougar XR7 is a 30th Anniversary Edition example that was registered in North Carolina and Virginia before it was acquired by the selling dealer in July 2023, and it now has 19k miles. It is finished in Toreador Red over Light Prairie Tan leather upholstery and is powered by a 4.6-liter V8 linked to a four-speed automatic transmission. The 30th Anniversary package added a sport-tuned suspension, 16″ cast-aluminum wheels, and commemorative badging along with power lumbar support and side bolsters for the front seats. Additional equipment includes four-wheel disc brakes, a decklid spoiler, keyless entry, air conditioning, cruise control, an AM/FM/cassette stereo, and power windows and door locks. This Cougar XR7 is offered by the selling dealer in Illinois with a window sticker, original purchase paperwork, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Virginia title.
All 30th Anniversary Edition examples were finished in Toreador Red (JL) and feature commemorative badging. Exterior details include gold pinstriping, automatic headlights, a decklid spoiler, and dual exhaust outlets.
Lacey-spoke 16″ cast-aluminum wheels with black accents are wrapped in 225/60 Goodyear Eagle GT+4 tires. A sport-tuned suspension was equipped as part of the Anniversary Edition along with larger front disc brake rotors when compared to the standard Cougar XR7.
The front bucket seats are upholstered in Light Prairie Tan leather and feature 30th Anniversary-logo embroidery on the backrests in addition to power-operated adjustment, lumbar support, and side bolsters. Appointments include air conditioning, rear-seat heat ducts, cruise control, keyless entry, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, an AM/FM/cassette stereo, a leather-wrapped shift knob, Anniversary Edition-embroidered floor mats, and power windows and door locks.
The leather-wrapped airbag steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 19k miles.
The 4.6-liter SOHC V8 features electronic fuel injection and was factory rated at 205 horsepower. The power control module was replaced in preparation for the sale, at which time the oil was changed.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. Rust is visible on the underside components, additional photos of which are provided in the image gallery below.
The window sticker lists factory equipment, options, and a total price of $20,430. Original purchase paperwork and a front license plate bracket are also included in the sale.
The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in North Carolina, Virginia, and Illinois.
