This Ford Explorer got away, but there are more like it here.
This 1998 Ford Explorer XLT remained registered with one owner in California prior to the selling dealer’s acquisition in April 2023, and it now shows 48k miles. The truck is finished in Medium Wedgewood Metallic over Medium Graphite cloth upholstery and is powered by an optional 4.0-liter SOHC V6 linked with a five-speed automatic transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and a limited-slip rear differential. Equipment includes 15″ alloy wheels, fog lights, running boards, a roof rack, a tow ball, and a keyless entry keypad in addition to air conditioning, cruise control, a JVC CD stereo, and power windows, locks, and mirrors. This Explorer XLT is now offered at no reserve with manufacturer’s literature, an accident-free Carfax report, and a clean California title.
The truck is finished in Medium Wedgewood Metallic (LD) with silver pinstriping, and features include chrome bumpers, fog lights, running boards, and tinted rear windows as well as a roof rack, a tow ball, and a keyless entry keypad. There is a scratch on the right quarter panel, and the walkaround video provided in the gallery below shows paint meter readings as well as areas of flaking paint on the hood and roof.
Bright 15″ alloy wheels wear 255/70 Maxxis Bravo A/T 771 white-letter tires that are said to have been mounted in preparation for the sale. A full-size spare is located beneath the cargo area, and braking is handled by anti-lock discs at all four corners.
The front bucket seats and a 60/40 split-folding rear bench are upholstered in Medium Graphite cloth with patterned inserts. Appointments include a power-adjustable driver’s seat, air conditioning, and cruise control along with a JVC CD stereo, a retractable cargo cover, rear audio and climate controls, and power windows, mirrors, and door locks. The material on the center console lid is torn.
The leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 48k miles.
The optional 4.0-liter SOHC V6 produced 205 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque when new. The battery was reportedly replaced under current ownership along with the fuel pump, filter, and sending unit. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.
Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and a 3.73 limited-slip rear differential. Additional underside photos are presented in the gallery.

The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in California and Texas. An open manufacturer’s safety recall pertaining to the speed control system is noted in an August 2006 entry.
