1977 Mercury Grand Marquis
This car was built in St. Louis, MO, was shipped to New York for it's DSO and then headed up the Merritt to Wallingford, CT where it was placed for sale at Merriam Motors Lincoln/Mercury. It was purchased brand new by a woman who happened to be celebrating her 40th wedding anniversary.. Not sure if this was a present but it's fun to think so.
She only drove the mid 70's luxury cruise ship on average of 2000 miles a year before selling it to the current owner in 1988 when she was almost 70 years old. He too has only driven it roughly 20K miles in the last 32 years, for a total of 46,000 miles. This car is like a time capsule. The original Dove grey paint has a few nicks and chips but the paint will definitely buff up to a near original shine and some of the rubs and small imperfections may become less visible in doing so.
The matching Dove grey leather interior is near mint and includes such standard cruise ship amenities as power steering; power brakes (discs in front, drums in rear); AC (currently disconnected, in need a recharge, compressor turns freely); AM/FM/8-Track that STILL works!; power windows; power locks; power seats; power antenna and cruise control. All of this is covered by another matching Dove grey full Valino vinyl top.
Other nice bits are the 460 4 bbl engine under the hood, unfortunately the high horses of the late 60's had all left the barn by the mid 70's and this unit could only muster about 190 of them, but she still had some stump pulling power with 350 lb ft of torque. That runs through a C-6 automatic 3 speed transmission and out to a Limited slip 9", 2.73 geared rear end.
There aren't a lot of these out there and the malaise era cars are starting to come into their own. You won't see another one at the cruise night and you will garner attention. Just a great, super comfortable cruiser.
Great driver and with some attention could be a very nice show car too.
