About The Plymouth Road Runner:
Named for the popular Warner Brothers cartoon character, the Road
Runner was manufactured with no frills and few amenities in order
to save cost and weight on top of the Belvedere platform. It would
have the cartoon's famous "Beep Beep" sounding horn as standard
equipment of course! Known for being far less fragile than its
competitors at Ford and Chevrolet, the Road Runner was preferred by
those who desired serious street applications in high-performance
cars, and is fabled to have been the favorite of Moon Shiners based
on its power, light weight, ground clearance, and greater
durability than its law enforcement counterparts. It would hit
showrooms for the first time in 1968 with Plymouth engineers hoping
to see 20,000 units produced. Their first year popularity actually
achieved more than twice that figure! Today, the Plymouth Road
Runner continues to be a favorite among MOPAR collectors and muscle
car enthusiasts alike!
