Vehicle Description
1969 Buick Electra 225
The Buick Electra is a full-size luxury car manufactured and
marketed by Buick from 1959 to 1990 over six generations - having
been named after heiress and sculptor Electra Waggoner Biggs by her
brother-in-law Harlow H. Curtice, former president of Buick and
later president of General Motors.
For consignment a 1969 version of the Buick Electra. This car has a
consigner stated 4,157 original miles however the title is marked
exempt due to age. Overall paint is a bit rough with cracking,
crazing, and some rust forming in various places throughout. The
interior is a throwback with the fabric and color, and it is
powered by a 430ci 4-barrel V8 which is original to the car. Often
called the deuce and a quarter, aptly named from the overall length
of this big piece of Detroit Iron of 225 inches, just like the
Cadillacs of the era.
Exterior
Leading the way in a big way, is the large full grille bumper which
wraps the corners of the quarters and houses the dual square
bezeled headlights on either side of an egg crate grille. Taking
its cue from the front bumper some side trimmings start with a
running light in front then rising upward to form a trim spear that
runs the entire length of the car. It ascends above the wheel well,
then slowly descends through the rear fender skirts, culminating at
the rear bumper. The Buick front quarter vents are evident and are
gracing either side in a series of 4 horizontal rectangular shapes.
Some stainless trimmings are also seen on the rockers on both
sides. Straight body panels bathed in Silver Mist Poly show some
crazing and cracking of the paint throughout this car. Also seen
are some beginnings of rust where paint has chipped off and also
where trimmings meet the steel. On top is a black vinyl top in good
condition and this leads us to the massive trunk deck which
culminates in a fully stretched across gridded taillight with
another large bumper below. Badging is all on and correct and
standard wheel coverings with a Buick badge in the center all
wrapped in Hankook thin white radials all around.
Interior
For the interior door panels, we see some blue vinyl uppers with
some flourish embroidery around the pull strap. An aluminum panel
hovers above the molded vinyl armrest which also houses the power
window, power locks and power seat adjustments. Some wear is seen
on this armrest where the covering has worn off. Moving inside to
the seats which are covered in a blue broadcloth Damask pattern in
tuck and roll form. Bolsters and backs are a smooth darker blue
vinyl and headrests make an appearance in this model. The original
dash is upfront and utilizes the square and rectangle design for
the instruments and delineations of the panels that house all the
controls. Dark blue carpeting floods the floors and shows some wear
and slight staining. In back a large bench stretches across and
offers up plenty of legroom for the rear seated passengers. A gray
headliner is tight and above all this broadcloth excitement
below.
Drivetrain
Within the unrestored original engine bay sits a 430ci V8 topped by
a 4-barrel carburetor. On the back is the TH400 3-speed automatic
and the rear axle for this car is a 10-bolt, 2.78 ratio. Some
corrosion and dirt are seen throughout the engine bay, and surface
rust coats the underside of the hood.
Undercarriage
Up on the lift we experience heavy surface rust on the frame and
around the edges of the floorpans. A light coating of rustproofing
is noted on the floor pans, but structural integrity is maintained.
Finned drum brakes are all around, and independent coil springs and
4 link with coil springs provide the smooth ride.
Drive-Ability
All working, and all ready to go you may want to do some cosmetic
work to the exterior, but this car runs like a champ. Nice power
from the 4-barrel carb through the 430 cubes, smooth automatic
shifting, and bias free panic stopping. This large car wheels
around effortlessly with the power steering, and offers up plenty
of legroom for all inside, front or rear.
A consigner stated low mileage car in need of some exterior TLC,
but mechanically sound and all power conveniences in working order.
Silver with a clean black vinyl top, 4 doors and a snappy late
1960's interior covering. Definitely large and in charge!
