This is the car that delivered families to the Grand Canyon and
Disneyworld and camping trips in Michigan, offering room for
everyone and everything. Maybe that's why vintage wagons are so
popular today-they're the anti-minivan, the perfect way to take the
family on vacation with style. This cool 1966 Dodge Monaco wagon
spent the entirety of its life out west where it's warm and dry;
first in Denver, then California, then Nevada, then Texas. As a
result, it's spectacularly solid and clean with no rot or other
issues hiding underneath. That's mostly original paint, too, so you
can tell it has been loved. Only the tailgate seems to have been
repainted, a finish that's only a shade off. The rest is vintage
1966 Mopar enamel and original woodgrain Dynoc decals so it has a
very authentic look. If you've experienced Mopars of this vintage,
then you know the lovely solid sound the doors make when they close
and the whole thing fits together extremely well-typical of a
quality survivor. There's also plenty of bright chrome trim to set
it off, including the roof rack, bumpers, and ultra-fine grille,
and it's all in great condition. The Monaco is a great-looking car
and in wagon form, it still looks low, wide, and sleek. The
interior is absolutely spectacular, offering three rows of seats
for a total of nine passengers if everyone's really cozy. The tan
vinyl upholstery is in great condition and looks rather upscale for
something so utilitarian. Slide behind the wheel and you'll find
one of the coolest dashboards of the '60s, a racy twin-pod setup
that houses all the vital gauges, although the clock is sadly not
working. We also really dig the dash-mounted rear-view mirror, the
big steering wheel with horn ring, and vintage compass mounted to
the driver's left-remember those? Options include power windows and
factory A/C, including a rear unit for back seat passengers, and it
has been recently overhauled so it's quite effective. There's also
6-way power front seat, power rear window, and the ever-popular
folding third row of seats, so it's great if you've got kids. The
factory AM radio is still in the dash although the speaker does not
seem to be connected-easy to upgrade if a road trip is in your
future. Carpets and windlace are new, but the excellent headliner
is original and still looks great. It's also practical, as the rear
seats all fold flat so the wagon will swallow a 4x8 sheet of
plywood with the tailgate closed. Who needs a minivan, anyway? This
is a big car and a big car deserves a big powerplant. In the
Monaco's case, it's a 383 cubic inch V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor
making 325 horsepower and a rather impressive 425 lb-ft. of torque.
This is a hauler with muscle car DNA in its veins. It has been
recently and extensively serviced, including a new Edelbrock
carburetor, new fuel pump, full tune-up, new battery, and a rebuilt
power steering pump, so it's ready for the road. The engine bay is
nicely detailed with correct corporate turquoise engine enamel, a
factory air cleaner assembly, and original-style exhaust manifolds.
It starts easily, idles nicely, and pulls the big wagon around
without much effort at all-it's really fun to drive. The A/C system
has been rebuilt and includes a modern compressor and R134a
refrigerant so it's effective and easy to service. The brakes have
also been rebuilt including a new dual master cylinder and new
wheel cylinders, hoses, rear drums, and NOS shoes. Chrysler's
indestructible TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic shifts cleanly and
spins 2.76 gears out back, making this a car that's practically
built for highway cruising. It also offers new shocks and fresh
sway bar bushings up front, so it rides beautifully and tracks
well. A new muffler and tailpipe give it a hushed V8 sound that
feels appropriate and you'll note that there's some dust and dirt
underneath, but exactly zero signs of rust or rot. This is a really
clean car. Factory 14-inch steel wheels carry optional Charger
spinner hubcaps and a set of recent 215/75/14 whitewall
radials.Documentation includes the original owner's manual and
Certi-Card, plus a factory shop manual. We also have extensive
photos of the recent repair and service work. This is a really cool
car. Yes, we'll admit that we love wagons, but who doesn't? The
combination of horsepower, style, options, and ultra-clean survivor
condition make this car a winner in every way that matters. With
lots of recent service, it's ready to enjoy, and there aren't many
cars that put a bigger smile on people's faces better than a
vintage wagon with wood on its sides. Call today!Harwood Motors
