This 1965 Corvette L79 4-speed convertible has been through a lengthy frame-off restoration, resulting in a gorgeous C2 that is a turn-key car for its next owner.  This one looks great inside, outside, and underneath while offering a fun driving experience.  It also has a few upgrades such as Borgeson power steering, Hurst shifter, and a monoleaf rear spring for a better, more practical vehicle.

This example has had only two owners since 1982.  The most recent purchased the car in 1997 and drove it for a bit before all the work started.  It began simply enough with a few maintenance items, but you know how this type of thing goes.  By 2010 the body was off the frame and money was flying out the door for everything right down to screws, seals, grommets, bezels, and bushings.  The car was completed in 2020 and has seen fewer than 3k miles since.  Some of the restoration highlights include stripping and painting the frame and installing new mount bushings.  The body received a new front clip along with a color change from Milano Maroon to the more brilliant Rally Red you see today.  There is a new black top from Al Knoch along with many new trim pieces and emblems.  15” Rally wheels were also installed; while technically not available until 1967, they sure look great on this car!

The engine compartment houses a rebuilt 327ci 350hp engine.  The original engine block had to be replaced but other components are original and L79-correct including the double hump cylinder heads and Winters 3844461 aluminum intake.  The 4-speed transmission was swapped out in favor of a later Super T10 which is followed by the original 3.70 rear end.  As a 1965 model, this Corvette has a fully independent suspension and was the first year for 4-wheel disc brakes.  So many mechanical parts have been replaced or reconditioned including those that are often skipped on other restorations (fuel lines, brake lines, master cylinder, ball joints, tie rod ends, rear trailing arms, and more).  Borgeson power steering was also added for easier driving, as manual steering in an old Corvette can be a chore.

The black interior looks perfect against the red exterior.  It was also redone during the restoration and received many new parts throughout; carpet, seats, door panels, seals, trim plates, knobs, handles, instrument faces, lenses, and more.  Note the genuine teak steering wheel too.  Another upgrade for the driver is the Hurst shifter which provides far more precision than the sloppy factory piece.  The headlight motors operate properly as do the speedo, gauges, wipers, horn, heater/defroster, interior lights, turn signals, and parking brake.  Note the clock only works occasionally.  This Corvette is also equipped with a working AM/FM radio.

When you consider present restoration costs for a 1965 Corvette, this one is a clear bargain.  Many other C2 offerings in this price range are basic drivers with a plethora of deferred maintenance items waiting for the next owner.  But not this one.  It is a great car for anyone who appreciates a finished, quality Corvette and wants to enjoy the experience today.
