For Sale: 1999 Ford Ranger in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1999 Ford Ranger XLT Pickup

For the 1983 model year, Ford introduced the Ranger for the United States and Canada. The first compact pickup truck designed by Ford, the American-produced Ranger replaced the Mazda-produced Ford Courier. Produced across three generations using a single chassis architecture, the model line was marketed from the 1983 to the 2012 model years, (ending retail sales after the 2011 model year). The Ranger light-truck chassis architecture served as the basis for a wide range of vehicles over its production. Along with sharing body and powertrain components with the Ford Bronco II and Ford Explorer SUVs, the Ranger also shared components with the Ford Aerostar minivan and the Ford Explorer Sport Trac mid-size pickup truck. Through the use of rebadging, from 1994 to 2009, Mazda marketed the Ford Ranger in the United States and Canada as the Mazda B-Series, (the reverse of the 1970s Ford Courier and also the reverse of the Ford Ranger outside of North America). While among the highest-selling vehicles in the compact segment for nearly its entire 29-year production, an overall decline in demand for compact trucks led to its discontinuation after the 2011 model year, (a short 2012 run was produced for fleet sales). On December 22, 2011, the final Ford Ranger produced for North America was assembled at the Twin Cities Assembly Plant, the final vehicle assembled at the facility.

For consignment, a 1999 XLT Ranger 2 wheel drive pickup from the blue oval company. This one remains rust free, has never been in an accident and shows a non-verifiable 69,331 miles on the odometer. It comes with the fuel sipping 2.5 liter 4 cylinder, an automatic transmission, icy cold AC and provides some eye-catching looks with its factory applied paint, tastefully applied pinstripes and snappy wheels. You and this little Ranger, like the ads of the day said "it's a tough team to beat".

Exterior
Our Harvest Gold example retains its shine and shows nicely without any rust or dents. The flaws in the finish are unremarkable and the deepend of the pool paint provides the perfect backdrop for the black beltline pinstriping. Rectangular headlights and wedge shaped corner lights reside within a blingy chrome wrap around grille. Just below is a chrome steel bumper and black plastic lower air dam. Chrome is kept to a minimum, encompassing the earlier mentioned blue oval wearing grille surround, mirror backs, and Ranger XLT badging on the lower front quarters and Ford blue oval on the tailgate. Black accenting is also noted with some door trimmings, window surrounds, and door handles. Taking up the back is a black vinyl Gator bed cover which hides the black texture Rhino Liner finished bed sides and gray all weather carpeting on the bed floor. The tail view shows us tall wrap-around stacked color tail lights, the smooth gold gate and a clean black plastic trimmed chrome bumper below. 15-inch drilled and polished aluminum American Racing wheels are wrapped with 225/70R15 blackwall rubber from the 26th week of 2019.

Interior
Behind the lightly tinted glass are tan molded plastic panels sporting perforated tan vinyl uppers, a tan padded armrest and a black insert with black actuators and cranks. Below all of this is a map pockets and the factory speakers. The original Ranger dash continues with more use of the tan molded plastic accenting for the dash front surrounds, mixed with black molded inserts for the instrument cluster, factory AM/FM/CD/Cassette stereo and climate control dials. Uber clean herringbone pattern tan broadcloth is covering body hugging buckets with their integral headrests and a fold down armrest is between the seats. Tancarpeting is flooding the floors and presents with some light soiling and color fade. On the carpeted hump we note an addeddual cupholderequipped consolette. Above is a large tan fuzzy broadcloth headliner covering the interior ceiling.

Drivetrain
A factory 2.5 liter 4 cylinder sits in an original unrestored engine bay. This has EFI for air and fossil delivery and bolted to the back of this mill is a 4R44E 4-speed automatic transmission for those of us who like the car to row its own oars. 7.5" is the axle designation and all under the hood is looking very nice and freshly detailed including the new power steering pump.

Undercarriage
Black undercoating and paint coats most of the steel on this undercarriage and it remains structurally sound. The rockers and floor pans are rust free and a new factory style single exhaust snakes its way rearward. Power disc brakes are in front, and power drums on the back. Suspension is independent coil spring up front and leaf spring on back with new shocks installed.

Drive-Ability
This truck and it's2.5 liters fired right up and driving was a pleasure. All comfy on the ergonomic front for the interior, smooth acceleration and nice cornering. Fully functional, fully capable and fully enjoyable...2 thumbs up!

A well cared for and nicely presented example of a Ranger XLT with a economical 2.5 liter engine. A nice broadcloth interior and reliable powertrain will have you smiling as you go down the road, of course all the while hauling your cargo.
