Vehicle Description
Chassis No. 58F089990
Under the direction of legendary designer Harley Earl during the
late 1940s, Cadillac created some of the world's most attractive
automobiles and pioneered the direction for American automobile
styling over the following decade. The cars surpassed their
competition not only visually but technologically as well, and
truly lived up to Cadillac's slogan Standard of the World.
Cadillacs were status symbols - a Cadillac in the driveway was
certainly emblematic of the American Dream - and a clear indication
that the owner was successful and prosperous. Regarded as
"Motordom's Masterpiece," the 1958 Cadillac range featured revised
styling from previous years, including quad headlamps, more
pronounced shark-like tail fins, and fresh ornamentation.
This spectacular 1958 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible benefits from
a superb, nut-and-bolt restoration carried out by noted restoration
company Harbor Restoration of Rockledge, Florida. Performed less
than a decade ago while in the previous owner's devoted care, his
wish was very specific on how the restoration should be executed:
Make it exceptional!
The stylish bodywork was carefully refinished in black as delivered
new, while the lavish stylized chrome and stainless trim was
replated. Inside, the sumptuous red leather interior was fully
retrimmed featuring the correct textures and feel. The engine bay
received the same high level of restoration with all the proper
clamps, hoses, decals and tags, and houses the 365 cu-in Cadillac
V8 engine equipped with the optional three-two-barrel carburetors;
the Eldorado-specification power unit rated by the factory at an
impressive 335 horsepower. The same high level of restoration
detail was extended to the undercarriage and trunk. The
comprehensive, body-off restoration took many months to complete,
costing its owner well into the six-figure range in order to
achieve perfection. The efforts were rewarded with numerous
accolades, including Best in Show and Best Post War at the 2017
Cadillac LaSalle Club Grand National, as well as a Cadillac LaSalle
Club Senior Crown Award, an AACA National First Prize Award in
January 2023, and Best in Class at the Boca Raton Concours in
2023.
Quite possibly one of the finest 1958 Cadillac's extant, this
spectacularly well-restored example features a host of factory
power accessories including power steering, brakes, seat, windows
and antenna, a pushbutton radio, Autronic-Eye, and power closing
trunk. Additionally, it is equipped with air conditioning - an
option rarely seen in a 1958 Convertible. A copy of the original
build sheet is accompanying the car. Cadillacs from this era are
exceedingly challenging to restore due to the abundance of chrome
and stainless trim inside and out, numerous luxury power
accessories, and vast expanses of sheet metal requiring world-class
paint and body skills. All of these things can certainly be
accomplished by patient and skillful restorers, but due to the time
and costs involved, these cars are rarely restored to such a high
standard as the example offered here.
