1971 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE 1200

KEY FACTS

  • A largely original example of the characterful and much-loved classic, presented in an attractive and period-correct colour scheme.
  • Under the rear engine lid is the 1.2-litre air-cooled flat-four, driving the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.
  • An original right-hand drive UK-market example, this Beetle was supplied new to a dealer in Bristol, and has spent its entire 49-year life in the city. The second owner kept the car for a total of 32 years, and there are only two keepers in total on the V5C. In recent years, the car has been driven sparingly, covering only 3,000 miles since 2007.

EQUIPMENT AND OPTIONS

  • It is finished in an attractive light blue hue with a grey vinyl interior.
  • Almost entirely original to its factory specification, save for the addition of a pair of Marchal spotlights and electric windscreen washers.
  • This Beetle will be supplied with its original service book with ten stamps, as well as its owner’s handbook and original sales brochure.

CONDITION

  • No reported bodywork damage.
  • The light blue finish has been resprayed in some places over the car’s life, including on the front passenger-side wing, and presents well for its age, with a few age-related marks and blemishes, as well as corrosion under the rubber sidestep covers.
  • Overall, the interior is in very good condition, and is believed to be original, with an attractive light patina throughout. The seats are smart, though there are minor tears towards the bottom of the driver’s seat base.
  • There are no known electrical or mechanical faults
  • Although it is exempt due to its age, this Beetle’s last MOT test was conducted on 8 August 2018 at an indicated 49,873 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with one advisory noting that fluid was found on the steering box, however no leak was found
  • The car’s last service was an oil change, which was carried out during the seller’s ownership.

SUMMARY

This 1971 Volkswagen Beetle 1200 is a handsome example of the popular classic, presented with a time-earned patina and appearing to have been well-maintained over its life. The car has been enjoyed but preserved, and will make a fine weekend runaround or a characterful regular driver for its next owner.
