Description

Record year-to-year sales provided consumer confidence for Oldsmobile vehicles as they entered into the new 1936 production year. Only subtle visual differences were noted from the previous year, with the most notable being the rear-opening side doors leaving the former suicide doors a feature of the past. Additionally, improvements to shock absorber arms and adjustability of the front end made for a better ride with ground clearance, in conjunction with a strengthened X-frame chassis. Oldsmobile offered both the F-series with a 6-cylinder powerplant, and the upscale L-series with a Straight 8 for customer wanting a little more power. Oldsmobile advertised them as "The car that has everything!"

We are delighted to offer this 1936 Oldsmobile L36 Convertible Coupe finished in factory correct Mansion Maroon over soft Tan Leather interior with a matching Tan Haartz Stayfast cloth top! Hailing from its former owner of 21 years, this Olds F36 Convertible has been meticulously restored and carefully maintained for many decades! Powered by its original 240ci L-Head Inline 8-cylinder engine (#L230747) offering 100 factory rated horsepower, mated to a 3-speed floor-shifted transmission and 4.55:1 rear axle ratio. Options include flexible steering wheel, amber fog lamps, front fender marker lights, rear fender side skirts, Atlas Master under dash floor heater, AM radio head unit, cigar lighter to match shifter knob, chrome wheel moldings, bumper guards, rear luggage rack, dual outside mirrors, convertible top sun visors, passenger vanity mirror, trumpet horns, Firestone Deluxe Champion 7.00-16 wide whitewall tires, and cowl vent!

This includes new date-coded window glass, stainless steel exhaust system, chrome interior lap belts with Fisher logo, restored jack tools, and an included working AM radio box and speaker with covers (never installed).

The former owner took possession of the soon after it had received AACA National 1st Junior honors in 1999 and proceeded over the next 10 years to perfect it in many ways to higher show standards earning it AACA National Senior honors in 2011. This Oldsmobile is fitted with an auxiliary electric fuel pump and 6/12-volt starter system for added usability for cold starts and times of long-term storage, and a battery disconnect hidden on the interior firewall. It also has a column-mounted turn signal switch that functions utilizing the original parking lamps, as well as a period correct Ampco Vapor Lubricator accessory for providing a mist of oil vapor to valve stems, guides, seats, rings, and cylinder bores for added longevity!

It remains a superior road car with excellent drive qualities! The steering is tight and concise without any play, the engine starts with ease and idles so quiet you can barely hear it running while outdoors, and it shifts through the synchromesh gears wonderfully smooth! The braking is handled through 11" drums at all four corners which bring this 121" wheelbase chassis to a nice, easy stop with barely any pedal effort! Just a marvelous road car that represents one of just 931 Olds L-36 Convertible Coupes ever produced!
