Perry Park fire 2/23

A brush fire burning near the unincorporated community of Perry Park has been 80% percent contained as of Friday afternoon, though dry and windy conditions are set to persist through the weekend.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Department posted around 1:30 p.m. that a 60-acre fire had broken out near 5500 South Perry Park Road. The area is south of Castle Rock near Larkspur.

The post said that several agencies including Castle Rock, Larkspur and South Metro fire departments were working on scene.

A pre-evacuation notice was briefly sent out for the area and then recalled. The DCSO said that residents could resume normal activities. As of 3:30 p.m. the fire was 80% contained, according to the sheriff's office.

This past week of low humidity and windy days has seen weather conditions ripe for high fire danger, including a red flag warning along a large stretch of the eastern plains on Feb. 21.

Meteorologist Cameron Simcoe with the National Weather Service in Pueblo said the beginning of this upcoming week might have the potential to fuel fires along the Front Range. He said that Sunday's forecast of high wind and dry conditions could trigger another red flag warning, especially around Trinidad.
