The E90 generation M3 (2008-2013 model years, the 0 designates the 4-door) marks the end of an era for the BMW M3. It was the last M3 that followed the high revving, high compression, naturally aspirated, individual throttle body recipe that started with the iconic original E30 M3. If you are an M car fanatic of the old school, this is a big deal in the turbo-charged world of the present. The E90 M3 is the most highly evolved and potent example of that old-school recipe. Put another way, the E90 M3 is a fire breathing monster that shrieks to a redline well north of 8,000 rpm while inhaling through no less than eight snarling throttle bodies and wailing through an exhaust unimpeded by turbochargers. It is the M3 with the volume turned up to eleven. And, because it’s an M3, it still offers wonderful daily drivability, comfort, luxury, and practicality. Car and Driver, Motor Trend, and Edmunds called the E90 M3 the finest, single best, and most complete car on the market. Even the sanctimonious Jeremy Clarkson said it was the best car and there is no point in thinking otherwise.

Summary

 exterior photo

We are selling this 2011 E90 M3 on consignment for a fellow enthusiast. New Motors, Inc. in Erie, PA originally delivered it in late 2011, where it was until 7,000 miles, when it was sold to the second owner. It remained on the East coast and was serviced at BMW of Rockville, Maryland until 2015 and 22,500 miles. Crevier BMW then sold it in Santa Ana, CA, where it remained until 2018 and approximately 68,000 miles, when it came to Colorado. It is fully enthusiast optioned: slick top (no sunroof), manual cloth/leather seats, and the fantastic BMW 7-Speed DCT. We are all die-hard manual fans at Glen Shelly, but the way this transmission works paired with the S65 is something that must be experienced to be appreciated. The records include a summary of dealer maintenance and options, a VIN decode, Blackstone oil analysis, and invoices for the air bag recalls. It recently had a large service, including: rod bearings, fresh front tires, and pads and rotors. It comes with two key FOBs and all owners’ manuals. The E9X M3 market has diverged, and this E90 M3 is an outlier in the available population due to its great condition and unique options list. We would like to find a home for it where it will be well cared for, appreciated and enjoyed.

Exterior

The Silverstone Metallic paint is one of the best E90 M3 Colors. It is one of those colors that always presents well, regardless of lighting and cleanliness. We really can’t find much to fault on the exterior of this one. The paint is in very good condition with only small imperfects in the form of a few light scratches and chips commiserate with age and mileage. There are no significant dents or dings either, just a few minor imperfections. The front clip has some pitting from regular use, but it is minimal compared to what an equivalent Colorado car would look like. All trim is in good shape, although the rear M3 badge has some UV in the M stripes (this is easily replaced). All glass is in good shape with no cracks or significant pitting. The headlights, taillights, turn signals, and corner markers are all clear and crack-free. The headlights do have minor pitting in the lenses. The HRE wheels are nearly perfect, with no glaring imperfections are curb rash.

Interior

The interior is in great condition. The cloth centers of the seats of no stains or rips, and there is only light bolster wear on the driver’s seat. There are no odors and it has never been smoked in. The carpet and floor mats are in excellent condition. The steering wheel leather is soft and supple with only light wear. The carbon fiber trim looks fantastic. The other leather covered trim panels, e-brake handle boots, and as well as the leather seats are also soft and supple. The shifter boot is alcantara with M tri-color stitching. The door cards are clean, with the exception of some light scuffing an a few nicks in the leather around the driver’s map pocket. All other interior functions work correctly; windows, door locks, heat, air conditioning, comfort access, etc. There are no failed pixels in the cluster displays or iDrive screen. There are no check lights, warning lights, or check control alerts, except for the tire pressure light which remains on due to lack of TPMS sensors in the HRE’s. The BMW Individual stereo sounds amazing. Two key FOBs are included, along with the owners’ manual leather booklet.

Mechanical

 engine photo

The records show that maintenance has been done more frequently than the BMW factory intervals. Oil changes have always been done more often than BMW’s recommended maintenance schedule. The airbag and blower motor wiring recalls were performed within the last year. The recent Blackstone Oil Analysis shows no rod bearing deterioration and a healthy engine. The S65 fires on command, idles smoothly, and pulls strongly to redline. It has does not throw any codes, and no warning lights are present. The transmission shifts smoothly and quickly. There are no driveline vibrations or noise. The brakes are strong with plenty of life left. The tires were recently replaced in the front, and the rears have about 30% life left. As it sits, it is a turn-key M3 ready to be enjoyed by its new owner.
