JEFF BEZOS: A BILLIONAIRE’S HOLIDAY IN THE BALEARICS

Jeff Bezos, the renowned entrepreneur and former CEO of Amazon, has recently been spotted sailing around Europe on his $500 million superyacht, Koru. His recent sailing holiday included a long stay in the Balearic Islands, predominantly off the coast of Mallorca, and garnered a lot of press attention as it was announced that he had proposed to his long-term girlfriend, Lauren Sanchez during their holiday

Lauren Sanchez, a television personality and former news anchor, showed off her $5 million dollar engagement ring on board the impressive vessel with longlens cameras from around the world all trying to get a glimpse of the glimmering rock. The couple’s relationship became the subject of much speculation and media scrutiny after Bezos’ divorce from his longtime wife, MacKenzie Scott but the recent engagement marks a new chapter in Bezos’ personal life. One of the most extravagant displays of Bezos’ wealth is his newly-built superyacht Koru. With a staggering length of 417 feet, Koru is one of the largest and most luxurious yachts in the world. The yacht features a sleek and modern design, boasting state-of-theart amenities and accommodations. Equipped with multiple decks, swimming pools, a helipad, and even a small theatre, Koru is currently the largest sailing yacht in the world. The boat is followed by a 250ft chase boat that houses additional crew and Bezos’

multiple toys including jet skis, sea bobs, wakeboards, and other things that keep billionaires entertained on the water. The construction of Koru reportedly cost Bezos a staggering $500 million, making it one of the most expensive superyachts ever built. Its three masts were visible on the horizon at various locations around the Balearics and many a conversation was had amongst the yachting community about the sheer extravagance of the yacht. People that have been on board have spoken of luxuriously thick carpets, expensive artwork by world-famous artists, and every conceivable luxury imaginable. The yacht’s name, “Koru,” is derived from a Māori symbol representing new life, growth, and a fresh start, which was supposedly chosen as it aligns with Bezos’ philosophy of continuous innovation and exploration.

During his time in the Balearic Islands, Bezos and his fiancée, Lauren, indulged in the islands’ offerings. They were seen

exploring some of the smaller towns in Mallorca, dining at upscale restaurants, and basking in the sun on some of the more secluded beaches.

While Bezos’ visit to the islands showcased his lavish lifestyle, it also raised discussions about the impact of mega-yachts on the environment. Critics argue that these massive vessels contribute to pollution and harm marine ecosystems. Despite the controversies surrounding his wealth and lifestyle, Jeff Bezos remains an influential figure in the business world. As the founder of Amazon, he revolutionised the e-commerce industry and amassed an unprecedented fortune. Forbes recently listed Bezos as the third richest man in the world after Bernard Arnault of LVMH and Elon Musk although this list is constantly changing due to the fluctuating value of assets and stocks.

Jeff Bezos’ journey with Amazon began in 1994 when he left his job at a prominent Wall Street firm. With a vision to capitalise on the growing popularity of the Internet, Bezos identified e-commerce as an untapped market with immense potential. He saw an opportunity to create an online bookstore that would revolutionise the way people purchased books around the world.

Starting from a modest garage in Seattle, Bezos launched Amazon.com and the initial focus on books was a strategic move due to the ease and low cost

of shipping. From the outset, Bezos prioritised customer satisfaction and convenience, setting the foundation for what would become Amazon’s core principles.

Bezos’ keen understanding of technology and his ability to foresee future trends played a crucial role in Amazon’s success. As the internet completely changed various industries, Bezos recognised the potential for expansion beyond books and Amazon gradually diversified its offerings to include music, electronics, toys, and more.

Bezos also embraced innovation leading Amazon to push boundaries and enter new markets. In 2007, Amazon introduced the Kindle e-reader, which completely changed the publishing industry and paved the way for digital books.

Under Bezos’ leadership, Amazon grew exponentially, expanding globally and diversifying into various sectors. Today, Amazon is not only the world’s largest online retailer but also a leading provider of cloud computing services, a major player in the entertainment industry, and an innovator in fields such as artificial intelligence and voice assistants.

Bezos’ recent engagement, his huge superyacht, Koru, and his two-monthlong holiday all provide glimpses into his opulent lifestyle. They also reflect his desire to explore new horizons, both personally and professionally.

Whether it’s venturing into space with his aerospace company Blue Origin or enjoying the pleasures of a luxurious yacht, Jeff Bezos continues to captivate the public’s imagination with his largerthan-life endeavours and he clearly has excellent taste in holiday destinations as he chose the Balearics as his first port of call!

Philip Schofield Scandal Becomes a Media Circus

Veteran British TV host, Philip Schofield has been a firm fixture on British television for over 40 years but has recently been subjected to trial by the media for an affair with a younger co-worker. Although perhaps a lapse in judgement, both sides have insisted that the relationship was both legal and consensual. The media frenzy has left Schofield’s career in tatters and has highlighted an underlying tone of homophobia in the television industry and the media as a whole.

Glenda Jackson Passes Away

Glenda Jackson (May 9, 1936-June 15, 2023) recently passed away, it was announced in June. During her lifetime, Jackson had two distinctly different careers in her lifetime: as an actress, she won two Academy Awards, two BAFTAs and a Tony; and, as a member of Parliament for nearly 25 years. Excelling in both of her careers, Jackson made a difference in both and is equally celebrated and mourned by her colleagues from both sides.

Beyonce Blamed for High Inflation in Sweden

It seems that Queen Bey’s power knows no bounds as she embarked on her recent world tour, her first in seven years. It has been suggested that as tens of thousands of fans descended on Stockholm to see Beyonce in action, inflation spiked by a small amount. It is said that the much-hyped concert in May “probably” accounted for 0.2 of the 0.3 percentage points added to inflation by hotel and restaurant prices.

Firouz Farman Farmaian ‘s second balearic exhibition takes place in the artist led HMH Gallery, in Port Andratx , presenting Burn The Sage To Tyché , a return to large size, site specific abstract canvas brushwork following the artist’s celebrated immersive textile installation at the 59th Biennale di Vinezia in 2022.

The exhibition takes the form of a spiritual connection to elements sourced within the fabric of ancient Greece’s sacred Myths collected from the charged environment of the artist’s new Athens studio, perched on the southern slope of the Ardittos hillhome of the Pentelic Olympic stadium and the temple of the greek goddess of fortune, Tyché

Firouz FarmanFarmaian creates an ethereal, painterly quality through an overlay of line, light and texture using colours enriched with Pentelic marble powder from the quarry of Dionysos used in his time to build the temple of temples, the Parthenon .

To follow up on my two year journey within the vortex of Central Asian nomadic psyché, I have transported my explorations across cosmogonies and spiritual realms into the mythical golden aura of ancient Greece through a deployment of large and smaller abstract panelshere hung as offerings to the Athenian Goddess of fortune, Tyché Agathe.

Produced in my new Athenian workshop perched on the Southern flank of Arditto hill - in the shadows of the iconic Kallimarmaro Pentelic Olympic stadium and the sacred vestiges of the Temple of Tyché - the series searches to vibrate with ethereal qualities : layering line, light and texture

through the use of specific materials such as Pentelic and Dionysian Marble dust used in its time to build the temple of temples, the Parthenon - here integrated into the paint and onto canvas.

Sourcing material within quarries that have delivered marble to Athenian temples such as the glorious Parthenon through millennia, I actively seek to activate a dialogue between past and future - the material and the immaterial - here creating a sacred space to favor a reconnection to the idea of beauty through the transformative power of contemporary practice.

The gallery will be contacting private viewings up to July 20th Rsvp info@galeria-hmh.com

Gallery leader Andreas Streicher worked one week side by side with Firouz Farman Farmaian to set up the exhibition to get into the artists flow in order to transport his message in the best way. They also visited together Ben Jakober , who included a work by Firouz FarmanFarmaian in the Ben Jakober Foundation .

Judith Sturm , MA of Arts, Galerist and Curator of HMH Gallery is talking to the prominent Iranian artist in Exile. He is currently based in Greece, but travels around the world in the search of new artistic ideas and impressions.

How does the proximity of your studio to ancient sites affect your work? Do you feel a kind of „energy of history“ or something like the force field of a sacred place?

I always have been in search of a sacred place. That nomadic exploration is my fuel. The idea and sentiment of the sacred is a deep internal experience, and ultimately relates to energies

connecting us to both the cosmos and to the elements. The force fields are there for us to connect with - and on once we do - the energies revealed can be overwhelmingly powerful.

Ancient cultures possess an intrinsic comprehension of these powers and expressed it in myriads of ways taking the form of Myths, Oracles or Rites. From the Archaic Nomadic Cultures of Central Asia to Greek Mythology a common sub-vortex unites us to this primal connection to mother earth and to the universe.

Your current works for the exhibition Burn the Sage to Tyché have a meditative character and seem to be completely out of the modern hectic time, as if you had given yourself over to a contemplative way of life and gained new strength after the pandemic and the monumental installation at the 59th Venice Biennale 22?

The Tyché collection grew as a natural meditative continuity to my post-

pandemic spiritual and creative evolution, as I settled my caravan in Athens to the reassess futures. It came as a needed restive sequence following the Venice Biennale’s raging 8 months tenure that had me running for the best of 2 years as a Central Asian nation’s cultural Ambassador - as depicted in

‘The Road to Venice’ Documentary by French director Mathieu Vollaire (Recifilms Paris) to air on online platforms later in the year.

We are living in times of cultural and societal shifts, moving from the tabula rasa of industrial revolutions to a new

era - where the reassessment of our relation to the planet will be key. Time to reinvent transformative positive planetary myths reconnecting to pre-industrial philosophies. An Ecology of soul* .

You live near the temple of Tyche and have dedicated your exhibition to her. She is the goddess of luck and embodies the giving, guiding and changing power. She can elevate people and their fate but also humiliate them, she is described as capricious and unpredictable and brings about the change of fortunes.

What does she mean to you?

Fate made it my duty to honor her. I can only hope she will show me good guidance. I will Burn the sage to Tyché.

SUMMER IS CALLING

The 5 Best Summer Wedding Guest Dresses and Outfits for Summer 2023

Summer is on our doorstep, and for many, it signifies a diary filled with weddings, and of course wedding guests’ corresponding desperate search for suitable wedding attire.

Summer wedding dresses for female guests are arguably easier to shop for than what’s available during other seasons, as you can be creative and bold with prints, lengths and fabrics. There are plenty of retailers on the high street, designers, and even rental sites to choose from.

It is an unspoken rule not to wear white to a wedding, which is all the more

achievable when shopping for summer wedding attire, as bold colours are always in season.

I have searched high and low to bring you the best summer guests’ wedding dresses for those upcoming summer weddings, which you can even recycle for garden parties, the races, a christening, or a summer vacation.

SATIN BANDEAU MIDI DRESS

A summer wedding is all about colour, vibrancy and lightweight designs, and this River Island design ticks all of those boxes. Pair with neutral accessories or

colour clash with vibrant green shades for your footwear and clutch bag if you dare to be bang on trend this summer. This design comes in black too, so you can go for a pop of colour or a more subtle hue. Pink Satin Bandeau Midi Dress, £37 from River Island

This patterned midi dress will look great however you style it, whether you wear it for a wedding, christening, or even a garden party, you’ll certainly get your cost per wear out of this summer dress. ASYMMETRICAL

CAPE DRESS

Capes are having a moment, as are asymmetric designs, and Mango has encapsulated both trends in this one design. Go bold at your next summer wedding, with this lime design, which may be mini-length, but provides an air of elegance with the one-shoulder and sleek cape addition.

Never Fully Dressed has attracted a lot of attention from shoppers for the ability to style one dress in multiple ways. It is giving us major 70s vibes with the floral print, but we love the contemporary style of the dropped hem into a floaty skirt to contrast the more fitted top half of the dress to show off your slender frame. What we love is you can wear the dresses on their own,

Kitri is a brand to have on your radar, though we have no doubts it is already. It’s a great shopping destination for bold, colourful, vibrant prints, across all garments, which is why we love it for the summer season, including summer wedding guest dress shopping. This number boasts two summery clashing prints, which makes for a playful and energetic design, so rest assured you will not be coordinating with the bridal party. What we love is it is a flattering shape, thanks to the V-plunge, short sleeves, and maxi length, which shows off the curves of

The colour may be daunting for some, but rest assured it does come in other colourways too. However, with a glowing tan at a destination wedding, paired with nude, tan, and even gold accessories, this will truly pop. This design looks chic enough to wear for the ceremony and takes you through to the evening reception, or just the aftermath.

The Best Wedding Guest Suits for Men 2023…

and How to Wear Them

You’ve heard the news, received the invitation, ‘saved the date’, and congratulated all necessary parties. Now what? Hunting for the perfect wedding guest suit, of course. Cue week upon week of tedious scrolling, window shopping and browsing, right? Wrong! Amanda Zips It Up has a sartorial shortcut for you. I’ve been picking my favourite weddingworthy suits from the online shelves.

WHAT TO WEAR TO A SUMMER WEDDING

It’s so hot as I write this that unless you spend the whole of the reception with your arms pinned to your sides for fear of sweat patches, I suggest trading in woollen suits for a lightweight, Italian-inspired linen option. A growing fascination within tailoring, linen suits are all the rage, and you can pick up a linen number in just about any silhouette your heart desires. As for accessories, keep things simple, and stick to pale colours that will deflect the sun’s powerful rays. Opt for pastels –think Don Johnson in Miami Vice.

PERCIVAL

A brand favoured by the stylists of many leading menswear icons, Percival’s SS22 linen collection treated us to a supremely wedding-friendly sandyhued suit. Coming with a drapey fit that won’t look shabby, should you have packed it sans suit carrier (in fact, a few creases in the linen will bring this suit to life). All it’s missing is a tonal beige shirt and some slick brown loafers. Jacket £219. Trousers £129. percivalclo. com

JEFF

BANKS

An updated image of the classic English gentleman, this plaid-patterned suit from Jeff Banks elevates the traditional Prince of Wales check with a contemporary, versatile take on the oldschool style. Pair with chocolate brown loafers to complement the suit’s own powder blue hue.

Jacket £145. Trousers £84. suitdirect. co.uk

BARENA

VENEZIA

Barena Venezia’s signature classic feel of Italian luxury is distinctly apparent in the edged-up versatility of this khaki green suit. Balancing a lightly utilitarian jacket with a sharp pair of tailored trousers, this single-breasted offering brings something a little different to the (top) table £345. matchesfashion.com

SELECTED HOMME

Home of suave and fashionable menswear, Selected Homme’s signature mode is neatly embodied in the clean lines of this single-breasted suit. In a dusky, elderberry purple hue, this straight-legged pick will help you stand out in the congregation of noirs and navies in a simple but elevated style move.

Jacket £65. Trousers £55. suitdirect. co.uk

MOSS

LONDON

If you can’t step up your look on your wedding day, when can you? For those looking to stray from navy or black for their big moment at the end of the aisle, this sky-blue two-piece injects a traditional silhouette for modern grooms.

The Verge del Carme Festival celebrates the island’s links to the sea that has provided work for fishermen for centuries. Celebrating the patron saint of fishermen, the festivities kick off with a procession through the streets with a statue of the saint being carried towards the sea. The statue is then loaded onto an adorned boat and sent out to sea and followed by lots of smaller fishing boats. These processions can be seen in most of the ports around the island including Cala Rajada, Port de Pollenca, Port de Soller, Cala Bona, Coll d’en Rebassa, Cala Figuera, Porto Cristo & Portcolom.

Paula RooneyFloral Designer to the Stars

Wedding season is in full swing here on the islands with many brides, grooms and others travelling from far and wide to celebrate their loved ones getting hitched. As the guests, we show up, drink some bubbles and dance the night away but there is so much more that goes on behind the scenes that none of us see. One of the people behind the scenes is Paula Rooney, a floral designer who uses her creative experience to give guests an immersive experience through floral arrangements. I recently sat down with her to find out how it all works and who she has worked with.

Paula knew early on in life what she wanted to do and started her career at the age of 18, studying floristry for six years to a high diploma level. Once her education was completed, she began working in all aspects of the floristry business; events, retail, Christmas, mail order and everything in between. By working in these different parts of the industry Paula realised that her passion was in events and weddings, being able to see a finished project and the joy that it created.

At 25, the luxury liner, the QE2 came calling and Paula jumped at the chance to join the crew and travel twice around the world. Her time aboard the ship taught her about what the wealthier members of society deem as a luxury and how they expect this luxury to be delivered. Something else that the QE2

showed Paula was that if you work hard, you can play harder and she has carried this hard-working ethos with her ever since. Back on dry land, Paula decided to open her own flower shop, at one point she even opened a second one, providing floral arrangements for hotels and restaurants in her local area. After doing this for a little while she realised that it wasn’t for her and now, in hindsight, realised that she was perhaps too young to run a business and needed to gain more experience first.

“Everything I have done and everywhere I have worked has been a useful and necessary stepping stone to where I am today”, she tells me. After getting married and having kids, Paula moved with her family from her native Liverpool to Hampshire and decided it was the right time to start out on her own again

and Paula Rooney Ltd was born. Initially, Paula started out relatively small, working with restaurants and hotels and smaller weddings and eventually won a contract with the uber-exclusive Queenwood Golf Club. This all kept the business ticking by nicely but soon Paula began o realise that working on smaller weddings often meant that she spent more time running around chasing payments and clearing up after weddings than doing what she loved, designing and creating floral experiences. With this thought, Paula moved further into the more expensive end of the market with clients that spend upwards of six figures on their weddings, for example. Since making this decision, Paula Rooney Ltd has gone from strength to strength and with a minimum budget of £25,000 per job,

Paula has free reign to let her creative vision run free and to be excited and challenged by each and every project.

Paula works internationally with projects around the world with clients such as the Four Seasons, Blenheim Palace, and plenty of weddings for the well-heeled members of society. Her client list includes Spencer Matthews and Vogue Williams, a famous Japanese supermodel, former England rugby captain Chis Robshaw and classical singer Camilla Kerslake, as well as plenty of high-net-worth individuals from different corners of the globe. She was also recently featured on a Channel 4 documentary called ‘Billionaire Blooms’ which gives viewers a glimpse behind the foliage of Paula’s day-today work.

So why do all of these wealthy individuals choose Paula to provide the flowers for their events? Simply put, she is the best at what she does, and she does it because she loves it. Right from the beginning of the process,

Paula works with wedding and events planners to really get a feel for what the client wants. Often clients have their own vision of what it is they want with solid colour themes and a type of flower that they like. Paula works to guide her clients by suggesting alternatives and creating an experience that takes guests on a journey for every aspect of the event. Paula’s aim with all her creations is that picture-perfect ‘wow’ moment when the guests walk into the room.

“My favourite part is seeing the guest’s reactions when they see what we have created. It also still surprises me the reactions that a lot of the men have when they see the flowers - they are blown away. It’s priceless and makes it all worth it!” she says.

Paula Rooney Ltd is a business with plenty of soul and creativity that is built on trust where attention to detail and bespoke creativity take centre stage, and every aspect is looked after and curated by Paula and her team. Here in Mallorca is one of Paula’s favourite

places to work as she uses the beautiful scenery of the island as the backdrop for her art with flowers as her medium. The team she has built on the island means that everything is handled on-site with welders, carpenters, builders and transport all taken care of.

For anyone looking for that special touch for their next event or wedding, Paula and her team will happily offer a consultation and speak to you about what you want for your special day. These immersive experiences can be arranged quickly, and Paula says that the answer is always yes, unless it is really impossible! I just need to find myself a husband so that I can ask her to design the flowers at my wedding.

WAIT ... WHAT?

IBIZA

One Island, Two Party Sensations

It’s been emotional folks, Ibiza Pride 2023 was such a huge success last week! The event brought together various Ibizan communities and organisations plus the original street of hedonism and Spanish Drag Queen legends Calle de la Virgen hosting weeklong. There were several wild Pride street parties where I was behind the decks for three of them with my good DJ Judy OllyNotMurs, savouring every drop of the feel-good energy at everyone’s favourite Sunrise Bar.

CELEBRITY | 43

The people that came and partied created a charged atmosphere, the likes of which have not been seen since before the lockdown and made all the more special with participants young and old sharing the love and serving the Pride Vibes together Street Style on La Isla Blanca! We waved our Rainbow Pride Flags, marched the good march and I got to wear my brand new blue and black faux snakeskin thighhigh boots!

The final stage show last Saturday certainly showed that we had saved the best till last as “La Troya” took to the stage in Ibiza Town Port bringing their amazing show, Performers, DJs (DJ Kerol being my personal favourite) and dancers to give a packed out Port d’ Eivissa audience an incredible extravaganza and colourful experience that truly was Pride worthy.

Pride Director Antonio Balibrea and I have 2024 in our sights and what we have planned will be a show-stopper like no other so until then we would both like to say a huge thank you to the artists and LGBTQIA and GTIPOC communities for the support they have given, Pride 2024 here we come! June was all about Pride but July is all about Clockwork Orange which is going to be an equally incredible week of amazing “something for everyone” parties. Personally, I am truly honoured and lucky enough to be resident DJ at both big party beasts…. but check this out below and then grab a ticket!

Clockwork Orange Celebrates 30 Years of Inclusivity and Unity

The Clockwork Orange 30th Anniversary celebrations are taking place July 19th - 24th July but there is a standout, unique Clocky event that has the clubbing communities and residents of Ibiza gagging with anticipation with the buzz bigger than a queen bee on heat!

On Sunday 23rd July for the first time ever Clockwork Classical takes to Ibiza’s Recinto Ferial, a first for Ibiza as there has never been a party thrown at this venue which is normally a mainstay for the huge annual trade fairs in Ibiza.

Flying in from the UK is a 30-piece orchestra that will on this night of heady nostalgia replay classic club tracks at an electrifying open-air spectacle led by musical arranger and conductor Matthew Freeman of the London Symphonic and Royal Philharmonic Orchestras. Conductor Freeman will retain the essence of the original tracks but they will be enriched with an ensemble of classically trained musicians playing violins, violas, cellos, flutes, oboes, trumpets, saxophones and trombones. The audience can expect a flawless yet spontaneous show with some unexpected twists and turns as the sun sets in her inimitable colours, alongside a lineup of the best of the best DJs, iconic singer Angie Brown, Bongo Ben & Dax on saxophone…now where else can you go for a party like that?

I will be going b2b with my DJ husband Danny Oliver who

was also by my side for the Ibiza Pride Closing, but what makes this event very special indeed is the massive nod to the Spanish/Ibiza Resident DJ talents that have helped shaped Clockwork Orange which started 30 years ago at Es Paradis, Ibiza. With their message of inclusivity, firmly fixed clubland pioneers Danny Gould and Andy Manston are proud to welcome onto the program the following DJs: Iban Mendoza, Michel Manzano, David Moreno, Toni Oneto, DJ Pippi, Mr Doris and Guy Williams alongside the Clocky DJ alumni. All of these DJs demonstrate why Ibiza has a special place in our hearts and in history and bringing these stalwart DJ talents together with a 30-piece orchestra is the event of the year you do not want to miss!

Included in this sensory explosion is a light show in homage to the Balearic roots of electronic music with the voices of Kevin Leo, Dawn Elektra and Michelle John taking you journeying through both time and emotions as the sun sets. Not wanting to give too much away, floating LED screens will play visuals from the last 30 years with an incredible light show which kicks in after dark but here’s the biggie… Clockwork Orange have announced that Ibiza Residents will get a 30% discount off their entry tickets to this “Event of the Summer” by way of thanks from Danny Gould and Andy Manston for the support the people of Ibiza have provided Clocky over the past 30 years. Like I said Orange Army, now where else can you go for a party like that?

2023 Travellers’ Choice Award for Hotel Sis Pins

Puerto Pollensa’s Hotel Sis Pins has been recognised by Tripadvisor as a 2023 Travellers’ Choice Award winner. The accolade celebrates businesses that have consistently received rave Tripadvisor reviews and ratings over the last 12 months and places the Mallorca hotel among the top 10% of hotels worldwide.together with a light selection of bites and music from the resident DJ Karl8, we were completely mesmerised!

“The award landed out of the blue and brought great happiness to our team,” said Hotel Sis Pins’ Managing Partner Geoff Hopkins. “We put considerable effort into creating a welcoming caring atmosphere - with impeccable standards of cleanliness - and it gives us enormous satisfaction to learn that this hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed by our precious customers. It’s also reassuring to know that there’s still a place for a classic hotel in an era of minimalist modernity. Our traditional Mallorquin furnishings, period character and old-world charm clearly continue to delight – long may this last.”

Responding to a rising demand for seaside hotels in Mallorca, Hotel Sis Pins opened on the Puerto Pollensa waterfront in 1952 and has been providing good old-fashioned home comforts and friendly service ever since. Guests need only take a few short steps to reach the sandy beach, whilst shops,

bars, restaurants, and the attractive fishing port are all within strolling distance. The resort also provides the perfect base for walkers and cyclists keen to explore the nearby Tramuntana mountains. Many distinguished guests have stayed at the hotel (including, rumour has it, novelist and playwright Agatha Christie) and it’s built up a loyal following of repeat visitors - some of whom book their next stay the moment they arrive home.

“Congratulations to the 2023 Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice winners,” said John Boris, Chief Growth Officer at Tripadvisor. “The travel resurgence we’ve seen throughout the past year has even further heightened the competition. Earning a Travellers’ Choice Award demonstrates that you have provided great experiences to those who matter most: your guests. With changing expectations, continued labour shortages, and rising costs, this

is no easy feat, and I am continually impressed with the hospitality industry’s resilience and ability to adapt. Cheers to another successful year!”

THINGS THAT MAKE YOU GO AH!

Ten MallorcaAn Idyllic Escape in the Heart of Mallorca

If you haven’t yet been to Ten Mallorca, then where have you been hiding? Since this beautiful boutique hotel opened a few years ago, residents, tourists, and even influencers have been racing to stay there to experience it for themselves, and word of mouth is a powerful form of marketing. So why is this hidden gem in the small town of Sineu so popular? Celebrity Magazine spent some time there recently to find out…

CELEBRITY | 53

Ten Mallorca is nestled in a quaint little street in the former King’s seat town of Sineu, a village steeped in history with plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants, and a popular weekly market on a Wednesday. The hotel itself is situated in an elegantly restored historic townhouse with an unassuming entrance that opens into a stunning reception area and onto the picture-perfect courtyard and pool area.

Arriving at Ten Mallorca, you are instantly blown away by the interior with its Art Deco-inspired furnishings, quirky artwork, colourful furnishings and a harmonious blend of old and new features. It is not the effortlessly chic interior, however, that makes Ten Mallorca such a special place, it is the owners and gracious hosts that run the hotel, Jo, John, and Hannah who, together with their team give every guest the warmest of welcomes.

A passion project for Jo and John, Ten

and others with huge walk-in showers. The double beds are possibly the most comfortable beds you will ever sleep in and the bedding is soft, crisp and makes you want to stay in there all day. Staying in bed is not an option, however. Not if you don’t want to miss out on some time spent by the refreshing saltwater infinity pool. Lay back on one of the sun loungers, hide from the sun under the quirky parasols and order yourself a cocktail, or two! We certainly did! The hotel also boasts a fully equipped gym (we poked our heads in just to make sure!), a games room and spa treatments can be arranged at reception. As if all of this isn’t enough for your country escape, Ten Mallorca has also positioned itself as one of the mustvisit culinary destinations in Mallorca. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available and prepared by the talented chefs onsite. There is also a snack menu to save you from leaving your sun lounger. Keep an eye on the hotel’s socials or ask at reception as well-known guest chefs often visit for one night only to cook up a culinary experience that is out of this

world. Ten Mallorca has expertly done what many boutiques have tried, and often failed, to do and that is to make the hotel feel like a home from home. All of your daily stresses seem to evaporate when you walk through the front door and a zen-like feeling washes over you. Add to that the warm welcome and incredible service that you receive from Jo, John and Hannah, and you will leave Ten Mallorca feeling refreshed, wellrested and with three new friends to boot!

Visit Ten Mallorca for more information and to book and have a little peek at their Instagram.

Si aún no has estado en Ten Mallorca, ¿dónde te has escondido?.

historic building in Sineu is even more difficult. Once all of the paperwork was completed, the real work began with the renovation project. Everything needed to be completely gutted from walls, kitchens and bathrooms, to digging out the swimming pool, all the while being careful to maintain the original building’s charm and staying within the planning permission guidelines. Jo, John and Hannah quickly learnt new skills: they can now hang wallpaper, stitch and sew, sand and hand paint shuttered doors, and move furniture. You name it, they turned their hand to it to get the project done. And the result of all of this hard work is clear for all to see. Each of the nine rooms is unique, with its own theme and individually curated objets d’art and artwork, as well as different designer wallpapers from Jean Paul Gaultier to Matthew Williamson. All of the double rooms are en-suite, some with bathtubs

pintado, coser, lijar y pintar a mano puertas encofradas y mover muebles.

Helping People Achieve Their Dreams

better cars. In 1986, Ford came out with a profitable line of cars, the Taurus-Sable line making Ford the most profitable American auto company.

Cliched phrases like “live your best life” and “be your authentic self” but how many of us actually know what we are attempting to achieve by fulfilling these mantras? Life coaches and the personal development movement has exploded in the last decade with self-help books and webinars everywhere. But coaching has been around for a lot longer than many of us realise with well-known motivational speakers dating as far back as the Victorian era.Jim Chandler, an established resident in Mallorca, has had a diverse career across the United States, and later in Europe, and has spent years studying a variety of motivational speakers and their teachings. One such person is the esteemed American engineer, statistician, professor, author, lecturer, William Edwards Deming. Speaking to Jim, he tells me all about his idol, someone who has been instrumental in inspiring him to seize every opportunity and, ultimately, come out of retirement and use his teachings to help others.Deming originally studied to become an electrical engineer at the University of Wyoming, the University of Colorado, and later Yale. Specialising in mathematical physics, he helped develop the sampling techniques that are still used by the United States Department of the Census and the Bureau

of Labor Statistics. Sampling is the selection of a group of people within a statistical population to evaluate characteristics of the whole population. This technique has been adopted in the US and around the world as a cost-effective and efficient way as it is not possible to measure the entire

population of a town, city or country.Later in his life, Deming worked as a lecturer and management consultant, gaining more exposure through an NBC documentary called “If Japan can...Why Can’t We?” which explored the increasing industrial competition the United States was facing from Japan. This all stemmed from Deming’s work to establish the 1951 census in Japan for which he became well-known. In 1960, the Prime Minister of Japan, Nobusuke Kishi, acting on behalf of Emperor Hirohito, awarded Deming Japan’s Order of the Sacred Treasure, Second Class. The citation on the medal recognises Deming’s contributions to Japan’s industrial rebirth and its worldwide success. Deming became more and more in demand over the years, lecturing and speaking at events around the world and consulting for large corporations, most notably for Ford in 1981. Ford’s sales were falling drastically and between 1979 and 1982, Ford had incurred $3 billion in losses. Deming was recruited to help and questioned the company’s culture and the way its managers worked. Deming talked not about quality, but about the management systems that were in place. He told Ford that management actions were responsible for 85% of all problems in developing

Deming’s teachings are wide reaching and cover a range of different topics and Jim has taken these and applied them to his life. Having been involved in a well-known restaurant in Mallorca as an investor and worked with high-stakes real estate, Jim retired at 56 and remained happy as a retiree for 16 years before deciding to work for three years to make some money and challenge himself.“I’ve always lived by ‘if it’s not fun, why do it?’ so I decided to do something I enjoy”, Jim tells me. This led Jim to start Dream Inc, a platform that he uses to help people with advice and support and mentor them to improve their lives. Browsing through dream-inc. com, readers will find videos, pictures, and information that is inspired by the words of Dr Deming and others that Jim has learnt from over the years. This passion project is something that is keeping Jim busy in his new-found “unretirement” and that he plans to continue with to help residents and businesses perform better here in Mallorca. Dream Inc’s overall goal is to help people to learn, have fun and make a difference by using Deming’s 14 key principles to managers for transforming business effectiveness from his book Out of the Crisis. For those of you who are interested to find out more about Jim’s work and would like to explore the teachings of Deming and other motivational speakers to help improve your personal or professional life, contact Jim for a chat -you will no doubt have plenty to talk about as Jim has lived a fascinating and varied life.

SOLLER VALLEY STORIES

Soller is alive as the northwest, summer playground of the island of Mallorca in July.

To make that journey to the ‘Island within an Island’ through the mountains and the Soller Tunnel is unique. To do the journey by sea is the preferred option in the height of summer as the Soller Valley is connected to the sea in many ways. The buckets and spades and sunbathing happen every day but that just scratches the surface of how important the location is.

The migratory past of Soller, before the Tunnel existed, was always by sea. When harvests failed, the young of Soller left by boats, from the Port of Soller. Their destinations were France and other countries colonised by Spain. The sea was their hope, successful arrival and work meant that money was sent back to support Soller life for their families.

The sea is also important for our fishing fleet and those who still go out on boats to catch their ‘dinner”. Soller and fish are deeply connected and for an older generation, fish is still the main staple of their diet.

In July 2023 the Marina has grown to

accommodate 640 moorings of small and large crafts and fine yachts drift in and out with their summer visitors. The Santa Catalina end of the Port of Soller never knows who their neighbours are, as the rich and famous are our frequent friends.

The Soller visitor makes choices every day about which boat to use to get to their destination. The coast of Sa Calobra and Cala Tuent is best accessed by sea. In the other direction, the boats head for the calas of Deia and fine restaurants, where the access is largely by sea.

The connecting factor in all this is fish. The fleet goes out every day and brings in the

Soller prawns and other delights of the sea which are eaten at their most fresh in the restaurants of the Soller Valley. The rest finds its way on refrigerated lorries to Palma and beyond.

The sea is our playground, food source and history and is worthy of our maximum respect…

The Global Wellness Market and The Future of Wellness in Mallorca in Mallorca

A Blissful Day at Kimpton Aysla Resort & Codage Spa

Newly opened in October 2022, Kimpton Aysla is a stunning addition to Mallorca’s spa hotels. The hotel is home to a beautiful spa, the first in Spain, by the French expert skincare brand Maison Codage, famous for its made-to-measure beauty formulas. I was excited to learn more and see if the spa lived up to the hype, so last month, my co-founder Nicky and I had the pleasure of spending a day at the resort, meeting the spa team and trying bespoke treatments. We are still glowing from our day of rejuvenation and took home our very own beauty formula.

Located in Nova Santa Ponsa, just five minutes from the main beach of Santa Ponsa and Port Adriano, the hotel is situated on the edge of a quiet residential area and nestled among lush native gardens overlooking Golf Santa Ponsa. The prestigious Mallorca Country Club is just across the road with its top-class tennis facilities. Stepping into the hotel’s light-flooded reception, the work of local artist Regina Dejimenez is a showstopper with an extraordinary textile mural that took ten months to create. Throughout the interiors and grounds are 700 contemporary works by local artists, adding warmth and colour. The reception team are beaming, dressed in cream linens and greet us warmly with a cold and sweet almond horchata, an islander’s favourite and an instant pick-me-up.

The Kimpton brand originated in San Francisco and invented the boutique hotel concept, creating places to stay that feel like beautiful, livable and stylish spaces.

The Kimpton Aysla is the chain’s first resort hotel in Europe; the property has 79 guest rooms in two low-rise buildings, minimalist lines, and beautifully landscaped gardens.

There are three outdoor swimming pools with stunning views over the Tramuntana mountains. The two restaurants, Saba Restaurant & Bar and Zayt pool-side restaurant are open to visitors. The gorgeous spa is one of the largest spas in Mallorca. The resort feels luxurious yet laid back and has a beachy California vibe.

Kimpton’s vision for the resort was to create a wellness-centred place where people could be active, social, and relaxed. There’s a daily programme of workouts, guided meditations, yoga classes, road cycling, creative workshops and a social hour where guests can connect over a glass of wine (on the house). The hotel also offers electric bikes (on a first-come-first-served basis). The soothing atmosphere at the Codage Spa welcomes us in with scents of essential oils and gentle music playing. In the tranquil and sophisticated reception area, spa manager Marta Valsecchi greets us warmly and leads us to the Codage consultation room with shelves carrying rows of brownglass bottles labelled with symbols inspired by the periodic table.

Marta takes us through a diagnosis

pressure to release the knots and tightness in my muscles. The aromatic organic oils enhanced the overall experience, nourishing my tired skin and creating a blissful sensory journey. I truly felt nurtured, both physically and mentally, throughout the entire session. Having arrived after a busy day with my head buzzing, I fell into a restful sleep toward the end of my session.

After our treatments, we go to the indoor pool area to enjoy the facilities. The elegant and contemporary zones have a zen-like feel, with early tones and textures inspired by the natural beauty of the surroundings. The spa’s luxurious thermal circuit includes a stunning indoor pool, a serene relaxation room and salt cave (which sprays salt water), a steam room, and a sauna. Each space is meticulously maintained and continues the overall feeling of tranquillity. Additionally, there is a fitness centre with a state-of-theart gym.

It’s relaxed, feels unforced, and we chat with a husband-and-wife couple who tell us they have hugely enjoyed their stay at the hotel. For dinner, we opted for the Saba Restaurant, intrigued by the “progressive pan-Asian” menu. As a fish-and-seafood-loving Pescatarian, the choices were endless, with small plates perfect for sharing and tasting many dishes. Our table was soon a feast for the eyes and our taste buds, with a spread of light, fresh, and beautifully presented plates. Clearly we also just had to try the stunning dessert menu which was seriously yummy!

Our double massage room has two extraordinarily comfortable massage tables, soft lighting, and soothing music. My therapist took the time to understand my specific preferences and concerns before beginning the treatment.

From the first touch, it was evident that the therapist possessed exceptional expertise, soothing away the new-business stress on my face and sensing where my body needed attention. The massage technique used long, flowing strokes with just the right amount of

After our heavenly spa experience, and feeling fully refreshed, we floated to the Bodega area just in time for the Kimpton Social hour, where hotel guests can enjoy a glass of wine and some snacks on the house.

Overall, we loved the Kimpton Aysla Resort and Codage Spa and would highly recommend a stay or a pamper day (non-guests are welcome at the spa and restaurants). Our spa treatments felt luxurious and left us renewed. We felt very at home in the hotel, with its relaxed vibe, calm interiors, and welcoming hotel team. After a blissfully relaxing day of rejuvenation, we’re already planning our next visit. Oh and not to forget, this is also a pet-friendly hotel.

The Breath Of Fire

MIND MATTERS

Just as we cleanse, feed, and nurture our physical bodies, we must do so with our energetic bodies. The breath of fire is a breathing technique that connects us to the divine, allows us to release that which does not serve us, and prepares us for the new day by cleansing, feeding, and nurturing our Luminous Energy Field.

We connect with each chakra that never separates from Divinity. That always lives in infinity.

Breath of Fire Buck Full Moon

Ceremony was on Tuesday 4th July 2023

We bring that energy up from Mama Earth (Pachamama), up through our spine, in through our belly to meet the energy of the sun. When we hold the breath, we notice how this breath distributes the Prana through our body.

Oxygenating the brain and all of our chakras, feeding and feeling each one of your energy centres. Your trunk, your heart, your hips, your legs, all the way to the very tips of your toes. We are cleansing our luminous field as we exhale all our old energy and inhaling the new fresh energy. Into every cell, every muscle and every fiber of our body.

Feeding into and sustaining your entire body. Bringing up the energies of the Earth. Of Mother Earth, of pure clear energy. The fire that burns deep in the belly of the Mother. Then also feeling all of the energes from the heavens that you have collected begin to feed your body. Energising every cell in your system. Merging with the energies of the mother, feeding and nurturing you. Bring that energy of the sun, that pure sunlight, down the palms of the hands, down your spine, along your chakras. Cascading down from chakra to chakra. Bringing that healing light, from the sun, the pure light. Into who you really are.

That radiant sun that is above your head.

This is who you are in between births. And expanding this radiant sun around you. Creating a bubble of infinity, of timelessness. Knowing that 30 days of healing can happen in 30 seconds.

Where you can change events before they are born into the world of form.

To learn how:

This Buck Full Moon in Capricorn we celebrated the transformation of releasing and achieving our life’s destiny in this powerful time.

This moon was the closest, largest and brightest of the year. This is a time of releasing the lessons learned, of forgiveness, looking at our work/life balance, and all the things we are grateful for in our lives. The themes of ambition and achievement, structure and discipline, of responsibility and accountability, of self-mastery and personal growth, and balancing our work and personal life. We introduced people to the practice of a Shamanic Water Ceremony, with the opening of Sacred Space for the collective and personally, including grounding and centering. We explained the themes surrounding the Capricorn Full Moon with Sufiah, and the importance of Crystal cleansing and charging. We also performed a Shamanic Fire Ceremony, with writing and releasements and practiced the act of Gratitude for all we have and all our prayers for the future. Sent our blessings to Pachamama (Mother Earth) for her health and wellbeing, and to dream a new world into being. We also had a wonderful Group collective healing with Bianca. There were songs, meditations and prayers. Really something for everyone and we welcomed people to share their own gifts and presence in the circle. Our children also played a key role with reading and meditations from these special souls. We finished with gathering and a chat with non-alcoholic drinks, and healthy snacks sitting under the beautiful Buck Moon. In Munay, Jamie

HIGHWAY TO A BETTER LIFE

I am Betina von Hohendorff certified as an NLP - Trainer / Ericksonian Hypnosis and Coach by Mindovers.

From the inner darkness to the inner light.

What is inner darkness?

It could be said that it is the culmination of all our unresolved or disharmonic aspects or, all of what is negative within us. Being unaware of this, we tend to think and act as if this is normal.

The inner darkness refers to the negative emotions, thoughts, and experiences that can reside within us. It can manifest in many ways, such as feelings of sadness, anger, fear, hopelessness, and often, bad behaviours.

We could draw up a small list from our inner darkness as being selfish, arrogant, egotistical, liars, disrespectful, judging others, being arrogant, being angry, hateful, to have lack of forgiveness, lack of gratitude, lack of humility, wrong behaviours, or even a lack of morals and ethics.

Most people lie to themselves, with various excuses, such as a bad childhood, bad marriage, bad friends, bad work, or living with toxic people, …

But it is our own decision to be a good or a bad human being.

Of course, traumas from childhood such as bullying, or a bad marriage are sometimes complicated to heal, but it is possible when you stop complaining and seek help.

Start to analyse this comfort zone, and people that you attract, and the resultant situation, but also the words that you say to yourself and others.

Is this always someone else’s fault? Or is it because you continue with the same wrong beliefs and old patterns, or continue to criticise the world that, according to you, is responsible for all of your misfortunes?

According to you, everyone around needs to change, but certainly not you, as you think

you are ok, but not everyone else. This is what we call inner chaos, and unfortunately the beginning of your inner-self-destruction path.

Do you recognise this or are you at least aware of your inner darkness now?

Some try to practice human sciences and spiritual paths, being still in the wrong state of consciousness. In this case, we know that all cleaning rituals or meditation techniques are useless and doomed to failure if there is a lack of ethics, morals and humility.

First, you need to recognise that you are in the inner darkness going forward with the wrong behaviours, and especially to be aware that your worst enemy is yourself. The only person who can win this self-fight and help you to go out from this darkness is you, it will be your own decision to go to this ultimate trial hoping for a fundamental change.

Patience and perseverance will be needed as the changes will occur step by step. The most difficult part is the risk of falling back because changing habits or wrong behaviours won’t be easy, but it could be successful if you really are open to this change.

To be in the inner light is to be in selfharmony, aware of our thoughts and actions, whether they are good or bad, and then to constantly learn from the failure in order to improve, and to rise towards a better self. We need also to accept the many trials that are presented to us.

are spiritual, connecting with a higher power through prayer or meditation can provide comfort and guidance.

Practice gratitude: Take time each day to reflect on the things you are grateful for. This can help shift your focus from negative thoughts and experiences to positive ones. Engage in acts of kindness: Doing something kind for someone else can bring joy and fulfilment. It can also help you feel more connected to others and the world around you.

Explore your passions: Engage in activities that bring you joy and fulfilment. This can help you connect with your true self and find your inner light.

Set goals and work towards them: Setting goals and working towards them can provide a sense of purpose and direction. It can also help you feel more in control of your life.

Remember that everyone’s journey is different, and what works for one person may not work for another. It’s important to find what works for you and be patient with yourself as you work towards finding your inner light. And inner harmony.

Can you change all of this?

A pathway through the light can take you from the fake life that you were living until now, from the “show off” behaviour, from the selfish and narcissistic kind of living. It also means helping people in silence, without any personal glorification, without being noticed whether in human exchanges or media publications.

The inner light is said to be the full harmony and the acceptance of everything that can happen in our life, good or bad is part of our human and spiritual growth.

My advice: There are many ways to overcome inner darkness and work towards finding inner light. Here are a few suggestions:

Acknowledge and accept your inner darkness: The first step in overcoming inner darkness is to acknowledge its presence and accept that it is a part of who you are.

Practice self-compassion: Be kind and compassionate towards yourself as you work through your inner darkness. Remember that healing and growth take time. Seek support: Don’t be afraid to seek support from friends, family, or a therapist. Talking about your feelings and experiences can help you process them and move forward.

Engage in self-care: Take care of yourself by engaging in activities that bring you joy and relaxation. This can include things like exercise, meditation, or spending time in nature. Connect with a higher power: If you

Reverence Hotels 6Points Mallorca

The penultimate weekend of May saw the 7th edition of the Reverence Hotels 6points Mallorca - a threeday charity cycle ride, superbly supported by Calvia council, visiting all the most extreme compass points of the island as well as the highest and lowest points accessible by road - Puig Major and anywhere by the sea respectively!

Founded in 2017 by local expat Bryan Visser, what initially started with a handful of riders to raise a bit of money for various local charities has grown year after year, with the 2023 entry being the biggest yet at

89 participants with many in the yachting sector taking part.

Title sponsorship arrived in 2020 in the form of Reverence Hotels of Santa Ponsa, securing this entirely self-funding event that has, since its inception, been driven by making it the best rider experience possible. And it shows - with superb organisation attracting a bigger field every year, not least due to the inclusivity of the event and the accommodation of variations in ability and fitness.

With the field divided into two main groups of Muntanas and Vallees,

one doing the entire Tramuntana on the first day and the other the lower route, a further subdivision in ability means that if you can ride a bike at a decent-ish pace for three days, there is a place on this event for you. For the truly nuts, this year also included an ‘Everesting’ groupwhich included 8850m of climbing. All the groups had their own support vehicles, manned by over 27 volunteers dishing out refreshments and mechanical support - and mercifully, no first aid! With lavish meals at each evening’s hotel stopover and all luggage

transported between the hotelsimpeccably organised by Ticket Travel, supporters of the event from the very beginning, the camaraderie that builds within each individual group and the event overall is what makes this ride what it is - everyone becoming a big family by the time they cross the finish line on the final day. The grand finale arrival was beautifully hosted by the new Vino Del Mar restaurant within Port Adriano, the port itself having lent great support in hosting the start and finish for the third year running. The 2023 ride has so far raised over €50,000 for various local charitiesAsdica, Yachting Gives Back (Shambala Foundation) and SOS Animal - a Calviabased animal rescue centre. Since its first event, 6Points has now raised no less than €210,000 for various charities- much of this coming from overseas riders, aware of Mallorca’s status as one of the best cycling locations anywhere on the planet. There are many ways to access road cycling in Mallorca, but none that has focused on the rider experience to anything like the scale of 6Points Challenges, is as much fun to do and which takes in the whole island. It will unquestionably be a sell-out next year again - and deserves to be.

BARCOS, MOTOS Y COCHES

Reverence Hotels 6Points Mallorca

Property Market Update

The Insurance Contract Law

The Insurance Contract Law regulates the rights and obligations of the parties, insurer and insured, with regard to the contracting of insurance. It is the basic regulation that determines the content of the insurance policies that are contracted for the insurance of cars, boats, properties, houses, etc. This regulation governs the content of the contract, its scope, the conditions for its renewal or termination, and, in particular, as I have indicated above, the rights and obligations of the parties. The Policyholder is the person who takes out the insurance policy, and his main obligation is to pay the insurance premium established in the contract. The insured is the person protected by the insurance, who may or may not coincide with the figure of the policy holder, given that the latter may take out insurance for himself or for a third party. Finally, there is the figure of the beneficiary, not present in all types of insurance, but only in those in which the policy holder can designate a third party to receive the benefit from the insurer.

The insurer is the entity that provides coverage for the different risks that are the object of the contract or policy. When a certain situation or contracted event occurs (fire, theft, damage, illness, death of a person), the insurer must comply with the terms of the insurance contract and attend to the effects foreseen in it for the specific event. In other words, with the insurance contract and the payment of the premium,

the policyholder transfers to the insurer the consequences of a harmful or damaging event, consequences for which the insurer must respond. It is very important to know the reality and scope of the insurance contract, as coverage does not always exist when a certain event or circumstance occurs. The insurer will not assume the consequences of the event in question when there is a cause for exclusion of coverage or will limit his obligation to compensate or provide a service according to the limitations contemplated in the insurance contract.

Exclusions of cover are stated in the contract as an exception to the general rule of cover and, therefore, the Insurance Contract Act requires that they be clearly identified and understandable. A policy contains clauses whose function is to delimit the insured risk, to specify what is being insured and, therefore, to establish when the insurer’s obligation arises. However, the same policy also includes stipulations that limit the rights of the policy holder and/or insured person.

The difference between the two clauses, delimiting and limiting, has been the subject of constant discussion and interpretation. The theory states that the former fix the object of the contract, the insured risks, the obligation of the insurer to provide benefits in favour of the insured. It could be said that these clauses refer to what is covered, to what extent, for what period of time, etc.

The limiting clause regulates the terms of the right of indemnity or the benefit to be received by the insured person, modelling it on the conditions set out in the contract. Obviously, both must be included in the contract. However, in order for them to have effect, in order to be considered valid, there is an important difference, since for the delimiting ones it is sufficient that they are accepted by the policy holder in general, whereas for the limiting ones, it is required that they are specifically accepted by the policy holder and that they are highlighted in a special way in the contract. Failure to comply with this may result in the nullity of the clause and, therefore, its ineffectiveness when applied to a specific case. We have all signed an insurance contract at one time or another. In fact, we have several of them in force, and it is very important to know the scope of the rights and obligations of the insured.

important to know the scope of the rights and obligations that are set out in the policies for our car, home, boat, company, etc. But the most important thing is to know the scope of the policy when taking it out, and it is essential to receive the correct preventive advice. At Puga Alarcón, through our insurance and legal departments, we will be delighted to answer any queries you may have about the insurance contracts you currently have and those you intend to take out.

Dreaded grass seeds!

At this point in the spring-summer season, if there is one thing that worries us veterinarians and gives us more than one headache, it is the classic emergency consultation related to grass seeds.

These dreaded grass seeds which cause so many problems are found in parks and countryside areas and act as foreign bodies like arrows that penetrate our pets, sometimes causing serious problems. The most common case is the classic grass seed in the ear of the poor dog who comes to the clinic shaking his head in discomfort. Almost without further ado, just by seeing him like that, we know that there is most probably a grass seed to look for.

So at this time of year, almost every day we have cases of foreign bodies that we have to extract from the ears, from between the fingers, from one or other eye and often from dogs

that arrive with a sneezing attack and something inside their nose! Unfortunately it is not always that easy and sometimes we have to resort to surgery or advanced imaging techniques (CT, Ultrasound...) to look for the foreign body.

It is very important, in almost all these cases, to have the UNDERSTANDING AND TRUST of the “parents” of the animal, as it will probably be necessary to sedate the animal to avoid the suffering of the pet and to facilitate the successful extraction of the grass seeds.

Just today we received Stella, a 7 year old Golden-doodle, who had been licking her hind leg for 2 days with

Malditas espigas!

a grass sead in it, as you can see in the photo. After sedating her and removing the grass seed with alligator clips she went home much happier. When they are resolved so well it is a great relief for everyone but as always first and foremost for our beloved animals who are the ones we owe it to.

CONSULTATIONS AND ADVICE

Consultations are normally by appointment. If a pet falls ill quickly or if there is an emergency, clients should never hesitate in ringing, because the team will always fit the animal in immediately.

The so-called Beckham Law (technically known as the Special Regime for workers posted to Spanish territory in the Personal Income Tax Law) is a special tax regime that offers better taxation for those who move their residence to Spain because of work, who obtain a tax benefit.

Regulations: Law 35/2006 of 28 November, Articles 113 to 119 of the Personal Income Tax Regulations).

General issues: Individuals who acquire their tax residence in Spain as a result of moving to Spanish territory may opt to pay non-resident income tax, while maintaining their status as personal income taxpayers, when they meet the following conditions:

a) That they have not been resident in Spain during the ten tax periods prior to that in which they move to Spanish territory.

b) That the move to Spanish territory takes place as a consequence of any of the following circumstances:

1.º As a consequence of an employment contract, with the exception of the special employment relationship of professional sportsmen and women.

2) As a consequence of acquiring the status of director of an entity in whose capital he/she does not have a shareholding or, otherwise, when the shareholding in the same does not determine the consideration of a related entity under the terms of Article 18 of the Companies Act.

c) That he/she does not obtain income that would be classified as obtained through a permanent establishment located in Spanish territory.

Tax Agency:

The taxpayer who opts will be subject by real obligation to Wealth

This special regime will apply during the tax period in which the taxpayer acquires tax residence in Spain, and during the following five tax periods. For these purposes, the tax period in which residence is acquired will be considered to be the first calendar year in which, once the move has taken place, the stay in Spanish territory exceeds 183 days.
