PUBLISHER’S LETTER MARCH 2013 Dear Readers, Well, what on earth do we do now? Taxes are up. The cost of governing ourselves is up. The government gives itself raises, while the balance sheet continues to dip into darker shades of red. Our leaders tell us how, when and why we need health care, but don’t submit themselves to the same conscription. And yet…

$223,800,000 in sales. The Scottsdale Auction week set a blistering pace with over 2,230 lots sold, reaching a record high as noted above. Dozens of individual auto-records were broken, and what used to be a weekend of “auto-fun” has become a serious economic engine that shows no sign of stalling or even decelerating. Rumor has it that over $1,500,000,000 ($1.5 billion with a “b”) was represented by the bank letters on file at the various auctions. While we showed no ability to equal the 15 minutes of fame allotted to the Batmobile ($4,620,000) at Barrett-Jackson, our duPont REGISTRY™ Showplace was full of the very best of “exotic” available. Class, power, style and perfection—these four words describe what makes Ferrari one of the greatest car manufacturers in the world. With each new model they produce, they aim to excel in each of these areas, and their latest example is no exception. In fact, it may just be Ferrari’s best car yet. The Ferrari F12berlinetta is a perfect example of how far along we have come in the supercar industry. Years ago when the Ferrari Enzo was produced, it was heralded as the supercar to end all supercars. Now we fast forward to 2013 where the F12berlinetta is the star in Ferrari’s line-up. This work-of-automotive-art is equipped with a 6.3-liter V12 that has an output of 730 hp and 509 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful road-going Ferrari ever produced. To handle all of this spine-tingling power it’s equipped with a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission with close-gear ratios that were specifically designed to match the power of the F12berlinetta’s engine. Sporting a lightweight aluminum space frame chassis and powerful engine, the F12berlinetta can go 0-62 mph in just 3.1 seconds, while the famous Enzo completes a 0-60 mph run in 3.14 seconds. Sure, it can beat the Enzo

in a straight line, but what about around a track? Thanks to a shorter wheelbase, lower center of gravity, more powerful engine and lighter weight, the F12berlinetta can tear up the Fiorano test circuit in one minute and 23 seconds. That’s one second faster than the 599 GTO and 1.9 seconds faster than the Enzo. If the F12berlinetta was meant to replace the 599 GTB Fiorano, what can we expect from the Enzo replacement when it’s revealed? Taking this already astonishing car one step further is Wheelsandmore—the model featured on the front cover. After tweaking the electronics and implementing a tuned exhaust system for better flow, the V12 in their F12berlinetta puts out a groundbreaking 785 hp. The finishing touches include lightweight multi-piece wheels that were developed specifically for this car. It doesn’t get much better than this!
