FROM THE PUBLISHER November 2015 Dear Reader, Automobile aficionados will almost always agree that cars are not all the same. On the one hand, some are lowcost, high mpg transportation devices. On the other end of the spectrum, there are automobiles that are high-cost, collectible luxurious (or exotic) experiences. There is similarity between automobiles and the dichotomy of electronic and print media. Let me explain. The internet is like a highway with zillions of cars traveling back and forth each day (or rather each second). Information speeds along at a great speed with the singular purpose of getting from point A to point B and specific points thereafter. Just like a commuter car, data travels the internet efficiently and at little cost. Let’s call the internet “information transportation”. Magazines are more like classic, luxury and/or exotic automobiles. Each issue tends to be different. They are unusual (and sometimes expensive) to build and they are not necessarily meant to transport information. Magazines are meant to provide an experience that one can hold in one’s hands. Magazines have increasingly become identified with luxury rather than everyday items. Categorizing magazines as a luxury experience puts them in a different group from information transportation. This means a good bit more longevity due to special handling and a more enjoyable pace. Therefore, we should refer to magazines as an “information experience” just like classic, luxury and exotic cars. Obviously, there is a difference between transportation and experience. Witness the comments of a duPont REGISTRY™ reader when he said that we have a “first class product”. And he has used the duPont REGISTRY™ to purchase several exotics (Range Rover, Aston Martin, Bentley) that were located in the United States. The bridges of the 159-part movement are crafted with carbon inlays and golden trim lines. The single-piece case is held with two screw crowns and a screw-on case back to guarantee water resistance to 200 meters. The dive time is displayed via an internal rotating bezel on the dial of the automatic watch. GIULIANO MAZZUOLI TRANSMISSIONE MECCANICA CHRONO Offering a bold interpretation of the mechanical precision of the automotive world, the Transmissione Meccanica Chronograph is an elegant yet sporty timepiece. The design recalls the powerful transmission of a car, where the gears are transformed into a case design and part of the clutch is interpreted on the dial. Crafted in stainless steel with PVD gunmetal dial and bold red hands, the watch features chronograph pushers on the left side, while the crown is situated on the right side at 2:00. The Italian-designed, Swiss-made watch is powered by a Dubois-Depraz 2030 Luxe movement with anti-shock system. $7,500.

GIULIANO MAZZUOLI CONTAGIRI 8C COMPETIZIONE Similar to all Giuliano Mazzuoli collections, the Contagiri takes its design inspiration from motor sports, particularly the tachymeter. Highly desirable, Contagiri 8C – dedicated to the glorious tradition of the Alfa Romeo -- now has a new version inside the Contagiri 8C limited edition 500 pieces: the all in black DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) steel watch. Like the other Alfa Romeo 8C watches, this is a 44mm piece. A 131-part mechanical automatic movement and 42 hours of power reserve powers it. The back dial design mimics the car’s tachometer and has a distinctive retrograde central hour hand that moves on the dial from 1 to 12, then flies back to its starting point to do it all again. $17,600.

GIULIANO MAZZUOLI MANOMETRO LIMITED EDITION This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Giuliano Mazzuoli brand of timepieces inspired by automobiles. When Mazzuoli first created his line he was struck by the beauty of the pressure gauge (translated as Manometro in Italian) and created a line that would reinterpret the timeless elegance of the sport of driving. Today, the iconic look of the Manometro continues to capture hearts. This 10th anniversary limited edition Manometro, designed in Italy and produced in Switzerland with Swiss automatic movements, features a vintage looking case crafted in stainless steel with Mazzuoli’s signature engraved above the crown. CORUM CORUM AC-ONE MISFIT SQUELETTE Part of Corum’s much-loved Admiral’s Cup line, the newest AC-One Misfit is so named because it is inspired by the oversized colored brake calipers found on exotic cars. One of just a handful of AC watches to be inspired in design by something non-nautical, the AC-One Misfit features a skeletonized movement with red rotor and sold with matching red rubber strap and also with a black alligator strap with red stitching. CORUM HERITAGE BUBBLE Making a big come back on the market, the Corum Heritage Bubble watch recalls its radical roots. The oversized domed watch was first unveiled in 2000 and was one of the most unconventional – and fast beloved – watches in history. Now, 15 years later, the new 47mm Corum Heritage Bubble features a specially made sapphire domed crystal that stands 18.8mm high – no easy feat to achieve. The dial has an optical art motif of decorated squares in graduated sizes that get larger in the dial center – a design inspired by artist Victor Vasarely. Inspired by the skull mascot, “Jake,” on the cars of the Corvette Racing Team, BRM unveils the V12-44 Corvette watch. “Jake” dates back to 2004, when the Corvette Racing Team was in its 4th championship ALMS season. Winning multiple important championships that year, the team turned the “Take No Prisoners” motto, and implemented the skull logo. BRM salutes the racing mentality with the new V12-44 Corvette 1 watch. Crafted in stainless steel with black PVD and yellow case, it offers black dial, steel pushers, crown and protector. BRM MODEL RG-46 ABL Part of BRM’s famed light-weight line, the Model RG-46 watch is so light weight that it’s 50 grams feels like nothing on the wrist. DIETRICH OT-4 Emmanuel Dietrich, founder of the eponymous brand and an interior designer with a passion for watches, decided to build bold timepieces with a distinctive, multi-dimensional look. The OT (Organic Time) watches express Dietrich’s view of the balance between power and pleasure. Each watch features an elaborate four-layer dial that allows for the display of alluring details. Powered by a modified automatic mechanical (Miyota 82-S-7) movement, the OT-4 offers hours, minutes, seconds and 24-hour counter. Crafted in 316L stainless steel microbead-blasted finish coated with gray PVD, the watch has a forged carbon on brushed steel bezel. The open dial with view to the movement has Classic Tritec C5 Super-LuminNova hands and indexes. $1,850.

DIETRICH OT-5 A more refined looking version, the OT-5 also houses the modified automatic mechanical movement, Miyota 82-S-7, and offers hours, minutes seconds and a 24-hour counter. The OT -5, though, is crafted in 316L stainless steel with a micro-beadblasted finish that is then coated with brown PVD, and the bezel is micro-bead blasted and brushed bronze – a rarely used, but much-loved, metal in the watch world. The four-tiered dial, with open view to parts of the movement, features a first layer in sun-brushed light copper color, second layer in vertically brushed copper color, third layer in sunbrushed darker copper and a top layer in brushed black. The bronze hands and the indexes are Tritec C5 Super-LuminNova for easy night reading. $1,400.

DIETRICH OT-6 For a stealth rendition, reminiscent of the auto industry, the 48x46mm OT-6 offers the same design aesthetic of its siblings, but in black PVD with a black PVD steel bezel. The four-layer dial is created in layers of brushed black, grey, steel gray and black – with orange markings and orange SuperLuminova hands for striking appeal. The OT watches are water resistant to 50 meters and feature custom-cut sapphire crystals with antiglare coating. The crown is sealed with a double O-ring and the caseback is engraved. Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 Spyder Revealed Recently unveiled by Lamborghini, before its debut at the 2015 International Motor Show (IAA), is the brand-new Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 Spyder. While we knew it was coming for some time, it’s nice to finally see the finished product.

Powering the car is Lamborghini’s naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine. This familiar engine puts out 610 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque, which pushes the 3,400 lbs car from a standstill to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds. It can also accelerate from 0 to 124 mph in 10.2 seconds and top out at 201 mph.

Porsche Mission E Fully Electric Concept Unveiled They broke ground in the world of hybrid cars when they released the 918, but now Porsche is setting its eyes on crafting a fully electric model with the introduction of their Mission E concept. A recent announcement outlines their newest concept design, the Mission E.

Set for a full unveiling in Frankfurt at the International Motor Show (IAA), Porsche anticipates that it could create up to 600 hp, a 310 mile cruising range and be charged from 0 to 80 percent capacity in less than 15 minutes.

In the revealing press release from the English luxury automobile manufacturer, Bentley announced that the Bentayga is “the fastest, most powerful, most luxurious and most exclusive SUV in the world.” That’s quite a pedigree.

Bentley wasted no time in informing the world that the Bentayga is powered by an all new twin turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 powertrain. When fired up, this engine is capable of 600 hp and 663 lb-ft of torque, allowing for a 0-60 mph time of 4.0 seconds and a top speed of 187 mph. Rolls-Royce Dawn Officially Unveiled Since Sept. 8, England officially has a new luxurious family member: the RollsRoyce Dawn. Unveiled in a press release by the marque, this new model is “like no other Rolls-Royce to date.” It gets its name from the incredibly rare Silver Dawn, of which only 28 examples were built from 1950 to 1954.

Based on the smaller Ghost and Wraith models, this new 2+2 convertible is, as the press release describes, the “sexiest Rolls-Royce ever built.” While the new English ultra-luxury model may only have two doors, each one adds to the strength and stiffness of the body, allowing for an uninterrupted A-pillar.

Eager for the road, we were driving through traffic, heat and the desert wasteland to arrive in Los Angeles for the Stampede. Running the next day with a La Ferrari, 918, many other exotics and even another SV that had been freshly bought, we came into Monterey hungry for the week ahead.

What an experience we had before us; first in class at the Concorso and two hours in traffic to the Quail, but after all, we were in an SV. It was a great week in a great car, but it was time to leave. This is possible because the 8.0-liter W16 engine uses Volkswagen’s innovative VR6 narrow-angle architecture to package sixteen pistons in a space not much larger than a Big Block V8. With attention to detail in regards to intake and exhaust restrictions, they were able to make 1,200 hp and 1,100 lb-ft of torque.

Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo: The Most Intense Bugatti, Ever Gran Turismo 6 has become one of the most well-known racing games thanks to the physical and digital Vision Gran Turismo models that are being released by prestigious automakers for use in the video game. The latest company to create one of these concepts is Bugatti, who recently released their model.

Called the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo, this new model was crafted by the Bugatti design team to be created as a physical show car and digital race car. The team drew inspiration for this car from the company’s racing history, more specifically, the Bugatti Type 57 Tank. In fact, the two-tone exterior finish of this new concept car is borrowed from the Type 57 G Tank that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1937.

It's fitted with the best lighting, suspension and performance modifications, with solid steel looks and solid steel performance to the bone. This build begins with a Wrangler Unlimited and swaps the stock 3.6-liter V6 engine for a ground pounding 6.4-liter Hemi V8, complete with Borla Headers and a Cat-back exhaust. Next, the stopping capabilities are increased to deal with the added power. This is accomplished with a new Baer brake system upgrade. New axles, axle housings with full trusses, axle sleeves, gusset kits, 4.56 gears and custom driveshafts by Tom Woods complete the driveline and make it bulletproof.
