1992 GMC Typhoon

Here at J & J Auto Wrecking, we have always been big fans of the GMC Typhoon and Syclone.  We have never gotten the chance to acquire a Syclone, but have managed to get two Typhoons over the past few years.  This aqua blue example was our first one and provided some very hard to find parts to enthusiasts around the world in need of Typhoon parts.
GMC Typhoon

The GMC Typhoon is a high-performance SUV produced by General Motors under its GMC division. It was a limited-production vehicle with only 4697 units produced from 1991 to 1993. The Typhoon is a sibling to the GMC Syclone pickup, both known for their unexpectedly high performance and unique appeal.

Based on the GMC Jimmy, the Typhoon was first introduced to the public at the 1991 Detroit Auto Show as a concept, with production models available for sale the following year.

Externally, the Typhoon was distinguished by its lower stance compared to the standard Jimmy, along with side skirts and a front air dam that gave it a more aggressive look. It also featured standard luxury features for the time, such as leather seats, air conditioning, and a premium sound system.

During its production run, the Typhoon was offered in various colors. In 1992, the color options were limited to black, red, and white, but the palette was expanded in 1993 to include green, blue, yellow, and others.

The Typhoon was well received for its speed and performance. However, due to its relatively high price tag and the limited production run, it was more of a niche vehicle and never achieved mainstream popularity. Despite this, the Typhoon and its sibling, the Syclone, have achieved cult status among automotive enthusiasts for their unique blend of performance and utility.

After the Typhoon's production ended in 1993, no direct successor was ever introduced. The Typhoon thus remains a unique chapter in the history of performance vehicles and a testament to GMC's brief foray into the world of high-performance SUVs.
