Two bottles [750mL] HALL Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, one each: Coeur 2013 St Helena and Ellie’s 2014.

The HALL Estate possesses nine unique vineyards that are planted across several distinct Napa Valley appellations, amounting to over 150 acres of Bordeaux grapes that have been strategically planted to take full advantage of Napa Valley’s various “micro-climates.” The winery is deeply appreciative of the nuances of each separate vineyard and is devoted to “small-vine farming [practices that] produce low-yield, highly concentrated fruit.” HALL painstakingly selects the best fruit from the estate and neighboring vineyards to curate the finest possible flavor.

The 2013 Coeur Cabernet Sauvignon, rated 93 by Robert Parker is comprised of mostly St. Helena subregion Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and aptly reflects the appellation’s capabilities of producing a consummate Bordeaux style wine that rivals its French counterparts. This is a full-bodied, robust wine with a gorgeous velvety purple color, resounding crème de cassis flavor, and powerful tannins. It will mellow nicely if aged for a decade or two. Less than 5,000 cases made.

The 2014 Ellie’s Cabernet Sauvignon is no less captivating, rated 95 points by Wine Enthusiast and 93 by Wine Spectator. It begins with clear crème de cassis, then reveals its depth, with noted flavors of mocha, rich berry, and oak. Owen Bargreen of International Wine Report calls this vintage, “simply outstanding.” It will drink best through 2030.

One Bottle [750mL] Guado AL TASSO 2015 Bolgheri Superiore

Tuscan wine connoisseurs and lovers of history will be delighted by the opportunity to own a Cabernet from the prominent Bolgheri DOC (denominazione di origine, the Italian designation for recognized wine regions). The Guado al Tasso Estate rests a little southwest of Florence, Italy, in the “Bolgheri Amphitheater,” a beautiful and historic valley between rolling hills with a micro-climate that is coveted by vineyard cultivators. Guado al Tasso is part of the Marchesi Antinori family estates. The Antinori family can date their Italian ancestry back twenty-six generations, with connections to the famous Medici family and the poet, Francesco Redi. Antinori wine began to gain notoriety as early as the seventeenth century, and the Guado al Tasso Estate came into the family’s vineyard holdings in 1930. History lovers may enjoy a visit to the Marchesi Antinori website to learn more about the long and fascinating story of the family and their connection to Italian history and wine.

This 2015 vintage of Bolgheri Superiore Guado al Tasso was rated an outstanding 97 by both Robert Parker and James Suckling, 95 by Wine Spectator, and 94 by Wine Enthusiast. The blend contains unique proportions of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. A full-bodied wine, Robert Parker describes it as consisting of “impenetrable black fruit, chocolate and tobacco followed by rich concentration and tightly knit texture.” Wine Spectator recommends opening between now and 2035 for peak flavor, though Kerin O’Keefe of Wine Enthusiast suggests cellaring no later than 2030. Balletto Vineyards farms 16 estate vineyards located in the southeastern region of the Russian River Valley. Only the fruit deemed to be in the top 10% of quality becomes Balletto Vineyards wine. Two bottles [750mL] Domaine Carneros 2017 “The Famous Gate” Pinot Noir, Napa

The Famous Gate is the flagship Pinot Noir of Domaine Carneros, first labeled in 1992. Domaine Carneros was notably founded by the Taittinger family of France who are known for their world-class champagne, and Eileen Crane has been leading the development of the Napa Valley appellation’s sparkling wine and Pino Noir since 1987. The 400-acre vineyard sits in the heart of one of California’s oldest AVAs, an exquisite subregion of Napa Valley, and is planted exclusively to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Each carefully tended harvest reflects the slightly cool and foggy average climate of this terroir, and the region is internationally esteemed for these two grape varieties.

This gorgeous vintage won the gold medal in 2019 at the famously influential San Francisco International Wine Competition. Wine Spectator awarded it a dazzling 90 points. The wine opens with enticing aromas of bing cherry, black raspberry, violets, and mandarin orange. On the palate, there is sweet boysenberry, enriched by layers of pomegranate, bergamot tea, and star anise. With its silky texture and mouthwatering acidity, this wine invites enjoyment now and promises further depth and complexity with added cellaring. Don’t miss out on adding this acclaimed vintage to your collection!

Take home four bottles from the private collection of Joe and Sharon Pryse, all very interesting labels. Two magnums [1.5L] Massican Winery flagship ‘‘Annia’’ White Wine, Napa Valley; one each: 2018 and 2019.

Wine Enthusiast calls Massican Winery of Napa Valley’s flagship ‘‘Annia’’ label a “consistently beautiful and beguiling white wine.” Massican describes their wines as “Mediterranean inspired,” and the grapes for their flagship ‘Annia’ White are discerningly sourced from around Napa Valley, California, to create a singularly exceptional blend. ‘Annia’ is composed of 51% Tocai Friulano, 33% Ribolla Gialla, and 16% Chardonnay.

The 2018 vintage is rated a magnificent 97 by Wine Enthusiast and was an Editor’s Choice winner. James Suckling awarded it 93 points, and Wine Spectator 92. MaryAnn Worobeic of Wine Spectator notes the “intriguing” complexity of this vintage, which contains upon first pour a vibrant bouquet of orange blossom, fennel, green apple and crisp pear, then finishes with lemon curd, sweet cream, and green tea. James Suckling detects plenty of lemon rind and a hint of spices in this medium to full body white. It is bright and refreshing and ready to drink immediately.

The 2019 vintage received 95 from Wine Enthusiast, 91 points from Wine Spectator, and 89 points from Robert Parker. Robert Parker and MaryAnn Worobeic both note the purity and vibrancy of this vintage, the exploding flavors of bright fruit and the balance provided by a note of beeswax on the delicate finish. Perhaps open these bottles together in good company and treat as a mini-vertical. Would be lovely at an outdoor barbeque. Less than 1,500 cases were made of this exceptional vintage. Bid now!

One magnum [1.5L] Epoch 2015 Estate Blend with etched decanter; PLUS, tasting for four people at Epoch Estate atop the historic York Mountain of the acclaimed Paso Robles appellation.

Epoch owners Bill and Liz Armstrong began their journey as vintners simply for the love for good wine, which turned into using their Geology degrees and preference for Rhône varietals to set out and find the perfect plot of land for their dream winery. In 2004, they came across a small pocket of land off California’s Gold Coast where the rich soils, weather, hilliness, and temperature swings posed the ideal location for their first vineyard, Paderewski Vineyard. Following closely behind were the purchases of Catapult Vineyard in 2008 and York Mountain in 2010. Now perched on the top of York Mountain in Paso Robles, Epoch Estate Wines produces wines that are carefully crafted from Rhône, Zinfandel, and Tempranillo varietals. Winemaker Jordan Fiorentini, one of the region’s most talented female wine artists (per the November 19 issue of Indulge Magazine) aims to incorporate each of the unique terroirs into the wines, allowing the land and the grapes to speak for themselves. Accolades for winemaker Fiorentini also include inclusion in Wine Spectator’s “Grit & Grace of Paso Robles” article in the June 2019 issue and Winemaker of the Year by San Luis Obispo County Wine Industry community in 2021.

This 2015 Estate Blend is savory! The floral and the fruity all unite in this five-varietal Estate Blend that speaks to all of Epoch’s wine practices. This focused and seamless expression of terroir shoots across the palate with notes of raw and smoked meats, black olives, roasted herbs, cherry, cassis, anise, lavender, and vanilla dust. Top marks from critics: 96 – Wine Enthusiast, 95 – Jeb Dunnuck, 94 – Vinous, 93 – Wine Advocate. And, it’s presented here with a beautifully etched decanter.

Also included with this lot is a visit to the winery’s historic tasting room in Paso Robles to sip delicious 100% estate wines and to hear Epoch’s rich story from their fun and fabulous team! Holding a well-storied past, the historic York Mountain Winery was established in 1882, making it the first bonded winery on the Central Coast. Over the next 120 years, the winery lived through Prohibition, a handful of name changes, and so much more. Through it all, it operated continuously until 2001. After years of restoration and permitting, York Mountain Winery finally opened again in December 2016 as the new Tasting Room. A full reconstruction of York Mountain Winery breathes new life into the design, while honoring the historic integrity of the site after the San Simeon Earthquake in 2003 left catastrophic damage. This modern-meets-rustic space showcases and celebrates the York Legacy as it simultaneously beckons the future of Epoch. Tasting is for four guests; expires 12/31/24.

Two magnums [1.5L] Turley Estate Vineyards Napa Valley Reds, one each: 2013 Zinfandel and 2013 Petite Syrah.

Turley Vineyards has reverently focused on old vines and organic farming since 1993, specializing in Zinfandel and Petite Syrah. Some of Turley’s vines date back to the late 1800s and require an expert’s loving care and attention. Founder, Larry Turley was in fact born in our great state of Tennessee, and raised on a farm in Georgia, before moving to California to establish Turley Vineyards. The vineyard is managed by viticulturalist and winemaker, Tegan Passalacqua, and produces over fifty varieties of wine today.

Only 325 cases were made of the Turley 2013 Petite Syrah, which is rated 95 by Robert Parker, who notes that this vintage is, “rich and full-bodied, with floral and blueberry liqueur notes.” Purity is off the charts, and Parker also recommends waiting fifteen to twenty years, if you can, to experience the height of taste. Wine Spectator rates this Petite Syrah 93, and notes hints of berry, chocolate, earl grey tea, vanilla, and cedar.

The 2013 Zinfandel is recognized by Robert Parker as one of the best of the Turley Zinfandel vintages and is rated 93. Wine Enthusiast awarded the wine an outstanding 95. Expect sterling intensity and complex depth in this full-bodied Zinfandel, with ripe tannins and hints of berry, black pepper, rosemary, and black licorice. Try pairing this versatile beauty with a charcuterie board or local tapas. It will also age sublimely through 2027.

Double Magnum [3L] Schug 2019 Pinot Noir, Carneros.

The Carneros appellation is considered the crossroads of both Napa and Sonoma Valley where the two major wine regions collide. This classic Carneros region Pinot Noir offers a wide range of flavors and aromas, in the tradition of the finest red Burgundies of France. “Clonal diversity” is achieved by carefully blending several vineyard lots, each retaining its own unique clonal signature in the blend. The result is a complex wine with a rich bouquet of red cherries, raspberry, and hints of spicy new oak. It has elegant flavors of strawberry and blackberry, followed by a juicy and spicy texture and a long silky finish. James Suckling gave this 2019 wine 92 points and Decanter 91 points.

The legacy of Schug Carneros Estate Winery began some 40 years ago when patriarch Walter Schug established his own label and eventually left Joseph Phelps, where he was the founding winemaker crafting wines that put Napa Valley on the map.

One jeroboam [3L] Ridge Vineyards 2020 Lytton Springs Zinfandel

Ridge Vineyards was our 2019 L’Amour du Vin featured winery with then winemaker Eric Baugher in attendance to introduce the wines. Ridge calls their approach to winemaking “pre-industrial.” They believe that for anyone attempting to make fine wine, modern additives and industrial processing limit true quality. Relying on the natural yeast, they let the terroir define the wine and make their winemaking decisions based upon taste, not a recipe. They believe in transparency and as a result, they include a list of ingredients on every wine they make. As a result, for more than six decades, Ridge Vineyards has been recognized by top critics, chefs, and peers for their consistent quality and steadfast approach to winemaking and are the largest grower of organically certified grapes in Sonoma County and the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation.

In 1972, Ridge made its first Lytton Springs from vines planted on the eastern half of the vineyard in the Dry Creek Valley AVA at the turn of the century. Both the eastern and western portions of the vineyard were purchased in the early 1990s, (in the 1870s, under “Captain” William Litton’s ownership, the two were part of one property; the spelling evolved to “Lytton” by 1903.) The vineyard is planted to zinfandel and its principal complementary varieties. The 2020 vintage is a blend of 79% Zinfandel, 11% Petite Sirah, 10% Carignane. Expect rich blackberry and plum on the nose with notes of aniseed. Full-bodied with dark bramble fruit and well-coated tannins on the palate. The long finish reveals layers of black licorice and dried sage. Rated 97 – Wine Enthusiast, 95 – Decanter Magazine, 95 – Zinfandel Chronicles, 94 – Wilfred Wong, 93 – Vinous. This 2020 vintage is a true classic from the vineyard that will be enjoyable over the next decade.

One bottle [750mL] Spottswoode 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, St. Helena, Napa Valley

Spottswoode is one of Napa’s most historic and beautiful wineries, famous for its world-class Cabernet Sauvignon. The founding of the estate reaches back nearly 140 years, and the current owners, the Novak family daughters, have been mindful stewards for over five decades. There have been a lot great wineries in Napa over the past half century, but very few of them that have been around the whole period are still owned by the same family that started them. The Novak family is a rare exception. Yes, vines were already on the property when it was purchased in 1972, but they were very different. The whole property was replanted after it was acquired.

If you are looking for a perfect ten, this 2018 Spottswoode Cabernet is it! Awarded perfect scores of 100 from Jeb Dunnuck and Wilfred Wong. The wine reveals a deep purple hue as well as extraordinary notes of pure crème de cassis and blackberry-scented fruits intermixed with lots of tobacco leaf, lead pencil, spice, and hints of flowers. It hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a layered, seamless texture, and a blockbuster of a finish. Based on 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot, this is a wine you don’t want to miss! It’s going to take 7-8 years to hit its early drinking plateau and cruise for 30-40 years in cold cellars.

One bottle [750mL] Scopeto del Cavalli 2013 Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy

Brunello is made totally from Sangiovese grapes that take on the characteristics of the soil, vegetation, and climate of the region in which it is grown. The varietal finds its greatest expression in the hot air and dry, rocky soils around the Tuscan village of Montalcino. The result is intense concentration and incredibly age-worthy wines. Brunello di Montalcino, Italy’s very first DOCG wine, is known to be a slumbering bear in its youth. Aging requirements are critical here, and offer insights into a wine’s ageability and drinkability. By law, Brunello di Montalcino must be aged four years prior to release and are best enjoyed with at least 10 years of aging. And, look here! Just your luck – a 2013 bottling from Scopeto del Cavalli, a family-run smallholding perched on the western slopes of Montalcino. Here, both the wildflowers and the olive trees have been purposely left in the vineyard–applying permacultural and biodynamic practices–to enhance biodiversity and encourage the symbiosis of olives and vines. The vines are grown along the stone-walled terraces below the town. The surface of the vineyard is less than a hectare, so great care is provided to both growing the grapes and selecting the finest for winemaking. After meticulous selection and fermentation, the wine is aged in French Oak barriques 2-3 years before bottling and, as previously stated, sold on the fifth year of harvest. This is an incredibly special bottle – availability in the US is extremely limited. The wine is bold, rich, and full-bodied. Red and black fruit assertively grace the nose and palate. Layered aromas and velvety tannins complement medium-high acidity. Consider decanting this wine to enjoy its full complexity.

One bottle [750mL] Dominus Estate 2017 Napa Valley Red Blend

The Dominus Estate in Napa Valley, California, is notably committed to an organic, sustainable, and land-honoring growing practice termed, “dry farming.” This very hands-on approach conserves precious water by encouraging the vineyard to utilize the natural precipitation of the Mayacamas Mountains valley, which in turn leads to deeper, stronger roots that are more connected to the nuances of the land. This fascinating approach requires constant care and attention, but such attention pays in the return of complex fruit that reflects the season and land’s unique characteristics. The 2017 vintage follows an unusually wet winter and spring, followed by several summer heatwaves. Due to the heat, the harvest was smallest for the estate since 1996, but the selected fruit is powerful and refined.

The 2017 Dominus Estate Napa Valley is a blend of primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, with a small percentage of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Jeb Dunnuck, Robert Parker, and James Suckling all awarded this vintage a superb 97 points. Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast awarded it 95 and 96 points, respectively. All critics have noted this vintage as powerful, full-bodied, exciting, and truly exceptional. Expect a luscious deep purple in the glass, complex berry and floral notes on the palate, and earthy notes of leather, incense, tobacco (and perhaps a hint of coffee) on the long finish. Jeb Dunnuck raves, “This tight, powerful, concentrated Dominus will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and keep for 25 years or more. 2017 doesn’t get much better.”

Don’t miss your opportunity to collect this bottle of the exceptional (and limited) Dominus Estate 2017 Napa Valley Blend, which has been bestowed coveted ratings by each of the world’s most esteemed wine critics.

One magnum [1.5L] Rochioli Vineyards 2019 Estate Pinot Noir; PLUS, tasting for four at the winery in Healdsburg.

The Rochioli Vineyard and Winery is a third-generation producer of fine Sonoma County wines, and well-known for its “terroir-driven” winemaking process. The 140-acre Russian River Valley vineyard is divided into several different blocks, each with their own fascinatingly varied soils, which the winery takes full advantage of by keeping each vineyard separate from growing to bottling. This allows the discerning enthusiast to taste and contemplate subtle, nuanced differences in the same grape variety, and even vintage! Rochioli is credited as among the first to introduce this “micro-batch” process to California. The Russian River Valley as a whole, with its cooler climate and proximity to the Pacific Ocean, is well-suited to growing excellent Pinot Noir, and Rochioli’s Estate label wines embrace this fact to produce a hand-picked blend of the best of each of the Rochioli vineyards.

The 2019 Rochioli Pinot Noir Estate is among the top of its vintage worldwide, earning 93 points from both Robert Parker and Jeb Dunnuck, and 91 points from Antonio Galloni. Enjoy delightful berry aromas on the nose with earthy undertones, a medium-body palate, and vivid finish. Cellar through 2027, if you can wait that long. Included for the winning bidder is a complimentary tasting for up to four at the Winery’s intimate space overlooking its gorgeous vineyards.

Duval-Leroy’s signature Femme de Champagne is made from 95% Chardonnay blended with 5% Pinot Noir, which creates an elegant Champagne with roundness and depth. This

2000 vintage is a perfect reflection of the close cooperation between Carol Duval-Leroy, President of the House, and head winemaker Sandrine Logette-Jardin. Feminine and ambitious! Duval-Leroy is one of the very few champagne houses led by female duo. This Champagne is only made in exceptional vintages, and ages for a minimum of 12 years in the cellar. Fresh and floral, Femme de Champagne is bright with hints of the yellows and greens of springtime and lit up with the sparkle of silvery moonbeams. On the palate, a bewitching flavor of ripe hazelnuts surrounds the floral fragrance of honeysuckle, followed quickly by the delicate notes of crystalized mandarin orange peel. Long and sapid, the alliance of lively fruit with complex secondary and tertiary nuance evokes the Champagne of yesteryear. Champagne house Saint-Chamant was established in 1930 by Pierre and Hélène Coquillette. Their son, Christian, took over the estate in 1950 and with more than 28 acres of Chardonnay vineyards in Grand Cru Chouilly his specialty is certainly in Blanc de Blancs. All Saint Chamant Champagnes are of a distinctive style and sophisticated quality, reflecting well the elegance and refinement of their maker. A heady, old-time richness and vinosity with extremely fine bubbles.

Situated at the base of the western slopes of Mount St. John, the tallest mountain in the Mayacamas Range, this sixty-one-acre property is located in an alluvial fan containing rich volcanic soils. The polished palate melts into flavors of chocolate-speckled plums in a blackberry compote-infused bath of Chambord liqueur. One bottle [750mL] Accendo Cellars 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

The new wine venture of famed wine producers Bart and Daphne Arajuo, Accendo Cellars is sourced from the finest vineyards sites in Napa Valley to make a wine of balance and restraint wine with the commitment, energy, and meticulous attention to detail for which the Arajuos are known. Brilliant in their youth, their wines are crafted to still be vibrant and pure fifty and more years into the future.

Undoubtedly among the elite Cabernet Sauvignon producers in Napa Valley, the Araujo family is known for creating the most sought-after wines in all of Napa, time and time again. For 23 years, Bart and Daphne Araujo owned Eisle Vineyard, arguably the most vaunted vineyard in Napa Valley whose name is cemented in Napa folklore. After building the brand into one of the most famous wines in Napa, the couple sold it to Chateau Latour and started a new vineyard – Accendo Cellars. Each vintage sells out immediately and the winery has a coveted mailing list.

Many of the iconic Cabernet Sauvignons dating from the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s were sourced from multiple, exceptional vineyard sites throughout Napa Valley. Brilliant in their youth, the best of these wines are still vibrant and pure fifty and more years later. Accendo Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon is modeled after this ideal: an uber blend utilizing impeccable fruit from superior vineyard sites, fashioned in a winemaking style that emphasizes elegance, balance, freshness, and finesse. Accessible at a young age, yet with the concentration and complexity required for extended cellaring, Accendo Cabernet Sauvignon is a quintessential expression of Napa Valley terroir.

The dynamic aromas of the 2019 vintage display gorgeous notes of rose, fennel, tar, graphite, earthy loam, dusty cocoa, and bay laurel; as the wine evolves in the glass, the aromas become even more floral and savory. In the mouth, big, bright flavors of this balanced, multi-layered wine enliven the palate, showing structure, density, freshness, and nuanced power, and finishing with long, gravelly tannins. This classically built Cabernet is slow to reveal itself, but finally shows its core sweetness wound around a mineral structure enhanced by notes of wild chaparral. Although the 2019 vintage is not yet rated, past vintages have earned 98-100+ ratings from wine critics. An undoubtedly fabulous wine from an elite producer – don’t miss this opportunity to take home this stunning bottle!

A brilliant Pinot Noir in the making. 92-94 points – Jeb Dunnuck.

2019 – Offers watermelon and rose-petal aromas with some green strawberries. Medium body. Tight and leaner, with freshness and brightness. Candied apple at the end. Complex. Drink now or hold.” 93 – James Suckling.

Two magnums [1.5L] Bergström 2014 Pinot Noir, one each: Gregory Ranch Yamhill-Carlton AVA and Bergström Vineyard Dundee Hills AVA.

Bergström Winery cultivates 84 acres in the beautiful Oregon viticultural area within five different AVAs (Dundee Hills, Chehalem Mountain, Yamhill-Carlton, and Ribbon Ridge). The family focuses on growing a small but potent harvest of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the ancient volcanic soil. They are deeply committed to the local land, and selective of their fruit to ensure that the nuances of the area are represented in the flavor of their wines. This offering includes 2014 vintage Pinot Noir from two different appellations in Oregon’s Willamette Valley.

We suggest beginning with the Dundee Hills 2014 vintage, which you may find to be just a tad lighter than the Pinot from Gregory Ranch. Wine Enthusiast rates this one 94, and James Suckling – 93. Suckling notes, “blueberries, spices and tar follow through to a medium body, firm and silky tannins, and a chewy finish.” There is a pleasant hint of minerality. Pair this with a charcuterie board of your favorite semi-soft cheeses, or perhaps hold an adjoining chocolate tasting.

The 2014 vintage from Gregory Ranch is thoroughly seductive, receiving 94 points from Wine Spectator, 93 points from Vinous, and 92 points from Wine Enthusiast, Robert Parker, and James Suckling. This wine is medium-bodied, dignified, and opulent, with a luscious finish. You can expect an eruption of savory flavors, from cherry, chocolate, and cola, to smoke, black tea, and earth. How will this fair next to the Dundee Hills edition? Let us know!

The magnum-sized bottles in this lot ensure enough wine is flowing for all your invitees to thoroughly critique. Don’t miss out on this one!

Four bottles [750mL] Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon, one each: Silver Oak 2016 Alexander Valley, Sonoma, Silver Oak 2014 Alexander Valley, Pride Mountain Vineyards 2005 (Napa and Sonoma), Jordan 2016 Alexander Valley.

Starting with our Alexander Valley beauts! The Silver Oak 2016 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is ruby in color with a magenta rim. It has an enticing nose of cassis, blackberry, vanilla, sage, and spearmint. Upon entry, this wine builds from potpourri and bramble to a bright pop of raspberry on the mid-palate. A juicy finish with chewy tannins and a medium length, it will provide drinking pleasure through 2042 with proper cellaring. Rated 91 by Decanter. The 2014, similarly, has a dark crimson hue with very good saturation. Notes of herbaceous sage give way to dark plum and black cherry aromas. It has an above average attack but is a slightly lither vintage than those preceding and following it. This wine has an acid-driven mid-palate and tactile tannin structure. Enjoy now through 2041. The 2016 Jordan Cabernet is a special vintage, marking the winery’s 40th anniversary. Aromas of black cherries wrapped in a spice box of nutmeg, clove, and allspice jump from the glass. The palate is filled with flavors of black currants and plum that lead seamlessly to silky tannins and black cherry notes. Blackberry, Mission fig, and black cherry notes linger on the finish. A perfect combination of elegance and intensity.

The most unique in this lot, is the 2005 Pride Mountain Cab. A blend of Sonoma and Napa grapes, the wine is a deep ruby-purple and possesses a full-bodied mouthfeel as well as loads of cassis fruit, and smokey, subtle oak in the background. Round, plump, and hedonistic, it should drink well for a decade. Rated 92 By Robert Parker.

Three-magnum [1.5L] vertical Tablas Creek Vineyard “Esprit de Tablas” Red Blend, Paso Robles (2018-2020); PLUS, VIP tour and tasting for four guests.

Tablas Creek Vineyard in Paso Robles is a pioneer of the California Rhone movement and the world’s first Regenerative Organic Certified™ vineyard. Their limestone-rich 270-acre estate vineyard is located in the heart of the Adelaida District, in the hills north and west of Paso Robles, about 11 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The winery’s viticulture practices emphasize quality through dry farming and moderate crop levels; and incorporate many biodynamic techniques across the estate vineyard, including their own mobile herd of sheep and alpacas. Tablas Creek’s goal in farming, as in their winemaking, is to maximize the expression of place and to produce grapes full of intensity and character.

“Esprit de Tablas” is the winery’s flagship red blend, chosen from the best lots of four estate-grown varietals propagated from budwood cuttings from their Château de Beaucastel estate. The wine is based on the dark red fruit, earth, spice and mid-palate richness of Mourvèdre, with additions of Grenache for forward fruit, approachability and lushness, Syrah for mineral, aromatics, and back-palate tannins, and Counoise for brambly spice and acidity.

The first vintage included in this lot, 2018, offers a deep brooding Mourvèdre nose of loamy redcurrant and roasted meats, new leather and black plum. The mouth shows spicy licorice and nutmeg lift over baked plums and Mourvèdre’s signature plum skin tannin maintaining balance with the wine’s mouth-coating texture. The long, richly tannic finish, with lingering flavors of wood smoke, roasted meat, and crushed rock, promises more rewards to come with cellar aging. Drink now or wait until 2026 any time over the subsequent two decades. Rated 94 – Wine Enthusiast, 93 – Wine Advocate, and 96 – Vinous.

The 2019 has an intense Mourvèdre nose of spiced plum, sarsaparilla, loamy earth, and new leather. The palate is mouth-coating with flavors of black cherry, teriyaki marinade, baker’s chocolate and iron. The long, richly tannic finish promises more rewards to come, and leaves lingering flavors of plum skin and roasted meats. Drink between now and 2024 or again starting in 2027 any time over the subsequent two decades. Rated 95 – Vinous, 93 – Wine Enthusiast, 94 – James Suckling.

The 2020 is the first vintage to include Vacaresse and Cinsault. Medium garnet in color, it has muddled red and blackberry aromas with touches of dried earth and woodsmoke. A pretty nose that speaks clearly of Mourvèdre in its elderberry and blackcurrant fruit and its eucalyptus and soy marinade umami notes. On the palate, black cherry and musky mulberry fruit, new leather, and a loamy richness that suggests a lovely meaty note will develop with time. Enjoy any time in the next 20-25 years. Rated 96 – Wine Enthusiast, 94 – James Suckling, 93-93 Vinous.

Along with these magnificent large formats, this lot includes a VIP tour and tasting for four at Tablas Creek’s Regenerative Organic Certified vineyard, grapevine nursery, and winery where you’ll enjoy the beautiful views and dive deep into the story of Tablas Creek. Must book three weeks in advance.

SILENT LOT 131

Three bottles [750mL] of 2017 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, one each: Caymus Vineyards Special Selection, Cakebread Cellars, and Duckhorn Vineyards.

Caymus Vineyards is located in the center of the Napa Valley. Primary production is Cabernet Sauvignon grown on low-fertility soils on both the valley floor and the mountains that surround the valley. Attention to viticulture details, some dry farming, high-density plantings (with some blocks spaced as close as meter x meter), thinning of the yield, along with healthy vines and harvesting at an elevated degree of ripeness – all of these elements produce a unique and singular style of Cabernet. While the wine has sufficient tannins and structure for long-term bottle aging, Caymus Cabernet is dark and concentrated, with ripe, luxurious, fruit-driven softness that shows from the day of release. This 2017 vintage is lush and very forward, with velvety textured waves of cassis, mulled plum, and blackberry reduction mixed with flashes of mocha and roasted vanilla. This is long, with seamless structure letting the fruit play out. “For the hedonist crowd” – rated 94 by Wine Spectator.

The Cakebread Cellars 2017 is very deep purple-black colored, with a pronounced nose of crème de cassis, blackberry tart, and warm mulberries with touches of Chinese five spice, camphor, and tar. Medium to full-bodied, the palate features loads of black fruit preserves, framed by chewy tannins and great freshness, finishing with a compelling herbal lift. Rated 90 points Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. Rounding out this trio, Duckhorn Vineyards 2017 Cab, a wine that embodies the complexity of the valley while offering a seamless balance between fruit, oak, and tannins. To add nuance, the Cabernet is blended with Merlot, yielding a wine that is approachable in its youth, yet worthy of cellaring. This wine is Lush, energetic and intense, this gorgeous Cabernet begins with aromas of blackberry, huckleberry, and chocolate, as well as hints of mint, cardamom, clove, and graham cracker. On the palate, it displays lovely brightness, with firm, resolved tannins framing flavors of boysenberry and black currant. As it evolves in the glass, subtle sweet and savory notes are revealed, carrying the wine to a long, focused finish. Rated 90 by Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast.

One magnum [1.5L] Hendry Ranch 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley; PLUS, private tour and tasting for four at Hendry Ranch in Napa

The Hendry Ranch is composed of 203 acres of land in the foothills of the Mayacamas mountains, northwest of the city of Napa. Portions of what is today the Hendry Ranch were among the first vineyards planted in Napa. Pioneering winemakers Frederick and John Sigrist began planting here in 1859, and soon had one of the most extensive vineyards in Napa. The ranch includes steep wooded hillsides, a riparian corridor that borders Redwood Creek, and 114 acres of vineyard. The winning bidder and three guests will enjoy the idyllic winery scenery while partaking in a private tour and tasting for four at Hendry Ranch.

The Hendry Cabernet Sauvignon blocks are located on benchlands west of the town of Napa. The vines grow on thin, stony soil between 150 and 300 feet above sea level. Morning fog and strong afternoon breezes from San Pablo Bay moderate the vineyard’s climate. After a warm extended maceration, the wine is aged 21 months in 90% new French oak barrels.

The 2017 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep ruby color almost all the way to the rim. Initial aromas of cocoa, butterscotch, dark berry, and evergreen. In pre-release tasting, tannins still had a firm grip on this wine, but with air, aromas soften and deepen, and more fruit and spice emerges. Mouthfeel is full, tannins fine-textured, but firm, giving the wine a softly chalky texture that will marry happily with steaks seasoned with rosemary and porcini, rack of lamb, or a savory, rib-sticking, polenta and short ribs. Rated 95 points by Wine Enthusiast, 93 by James Suckling, and 93 by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.

One magnum [1.5L] Aubert 2019 “UV-SL Vineyard” Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

Aubert was founded by Mark and Theresa Aubert in 2000. Before building his own winery, Mark Aubert made his wines at Colgin Cellars and the Custom Crush facility. While much of his fruit is sourced, Aubert owns 3.2 acres of vineyard land in Sonoma.

Named after the late vineyard manager, Ulises Valdez Sr. (UV), and located at his home estate on Stoetz Lane (SL), this vineyard is one of only a few in the far western reaches of the Sonoma Coast. Only six miles from the Pacific Ocean, the maritime influences here are omnipresent, with warm, sun-dappled afternoons refreshed by cool ocean breezes. Aubert and Valdez Sr. collaborated nearly 15 years ago on the planting of this magnificent vineyard of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Prior to starting Aubert wine in 1999, Mark Aubert worked at some of the best wineries in California. He replaced Helen Turley at the Peter Michael Winery in Sonoma and he later replaced Helen Turley for the second time when he became the winemaker for the cult wine Colgin Cellars in Napa. Mark Aubert has also worked as a consultant for some of the top California wineries including Sloan, Futo, and Bryant Family. Given that resume, discussing the wines might seem somewhat incidental but here are the ratings nonetheless.

The 2019 “UV-SL” is outstanding. Rated 96+ by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, 97 – James Suckling, 96 –Antonio Galloni, and 95 – Wine Spectator. Mark refers to this wine as the “chameleon,” as it evolves and morphs in each glass. The combination of climate, soil, and rare clones planted at UV-SL produce kaleidoscopic, site-driven nuances. This vintage has layered aromas of dried violets and roses, ripe red and black fruit, coriander, and a hint of eucalyptus. Full-bodied with bright, humming acidity that amplifies the flavors of dark fruit and mint. Densely packed flavors of melted chocolate, espresso, and overturned earth. Chewy finish. Simply delicious. Best after 2024.

Or, if you’re more inclined, simply skip the competition and go straight to the toasting ceremony to honor these worthy world-class champions. The winning bidder will receive:

One bottle of the 2008 Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame presented in a display box, from the legendary Champagne house Veuve Clicquot whose origins date to the eighteenth century. The La Grande Dame label honors Madame Clicquot, the spirited eighteenth-century leader of Veuve Clicquot who is credited with skyrocketing the business and innovating processes that are still used in Champagne and winemaking today. This bottle consists of 92% Pinot Noir and 8% Chardonnay, for an enticing, almost “blanc de noir” Champagne. Jeb Dunnuck rated it 96, James Suckling and Wine Spectator – 95, Wine Enthusiast and Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate – 93. This is an elegant and extremely complex Champagne, worthy to be enjoyed immediately, though it can be cellared through about 2042.

Also, from Veuve Clicquot, one bottle of NV Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Brut. This Champagne, rated 91 by James Suckling and 90 by Wine Enthusiast, is a blend of vintages and is consistently medium-bodied and fruity, with some minerality. This one would be the perfect apéritif to toast with before a special meal. Next, a bottle of Ca’del Bosco Cuvee NV Extra Brut. Ca’del Bosco is one of the preeminent sparkling wine houses in Italy, from the Franciacorta DOCG of Lombardy. This Italian wine is a true extra brut, with wonderfully crisp acidity, and a full bouquet of floral and fruit from the glass. Wine Enthusiast – 93, James Suckling – 91, Wine Spectator – 91. Dry, zesty, and ready to drink. Pair with your next delicate seafood dish.

Next, a bottle of Domaine Carneros by Taittinger 2015 Ultra Brut. Domaine Carneros in Napa Valley was famously established by the French producer of Taittinger Champagne, and zealously follows the traditional “Méthode Classique” of France to produce its impressive sparkling wine. Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Spectator, and Wine Enthusiast all awarded this wine 93 points. In terms of proportion, it is almost half Pinot Noir and half Chardonnay. This medium-bodied sparkling is exuberant, but also extremely refined. Also, from Domaine Carneros by Taittinger, a 2012 Blanc de Blanc made from 100% estate-grown Chardonnay. Rated: 95 – Wine Enthusiast, 93 – Wine Spectator. Anticipate nothing but excellence from this vintage, which is impeccably vibrant, chock-full of stone fruit, crisp green apple, and citrus, with luscious undertones of crème brûlée.

From Champagne, France, a bottle of Tsarine Cuvée NV Premium Brut. A superb Champagne beautifully proportioned with 34% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot Noir, and 33% Pinot Meunier. James Suckling gives it 93 points. Consistently crisp, fruity, and well-woven in texture. Last, but certainly not least, to round out the winning bidder’s collection, another true Champagne from the famous house of Piper-Heidsieck in Champagne, France. Piper-Heidsieck’s origins date to 1785 and today it is one of the world’s most well-known labels. The NV Brut Champagne is a time-honored classic, balanced and fresh with a long, elegant finish. One bottle [750mL] Kapcsándy Family Winery 2008 Grand Vin State Lane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon – rated 100 by Robert Parker!

You don’t have to wait to savor this impeccable 2008 Kapcsándy Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Vin from the historic State Line Vineyard, of which only 430 cases were produced. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate rated the 2008 Kapcsándy vintage a perfect 100, calling the wine – and the winemakers – “remarkable.” James Suckling rated it 94, Wine Spectator 93, and Wine Enthusiast 92. All critics noted that this vintage will be at its most unmatched around 2023, though it will keep beautifully in the cellar for another twenty years. This Cabernet Sauvignon blend is extremely complex, full-bodied, dry, and rich, with multi-faceted glimmers of cassis, minerals, cherry, spices (including mint), and earthy flavors. The once young tannins will have mellowed and balanced to allow a spectrum of flavors to come through.

The Kapcsándy Family Winery uniquely rivals the “first growths” of traditional Bordeaux by planting their vineyard surprisingly densely – four to five times more densely, in fact, than the typical Napa Valley vineyard. This allows for a smaller fruit to develop that naturally packs powerful flavor. The State Line portion of the estate was once part of the historic Beringer vineyards, but land has been strategically studied by the Kapcsándy family and replanted to take full advantage of the Yountville region’s particular climate, soil, and sunlight. Cabernet fans will recognize this opportunity to experience one of Napa Valley’s most acclaimed red wines.

Five bottles of vintage French Sauvignon Blanc-Sémillon Sauternes!

  • One magnum [1.5L] Château Rieussec 2005 Sauternes
  • One bottle [750mL] Château Rieussec 2005 Sauternes
  • One bottle [750mL] Château Rieussec 2001 Sauternes (100 points)
  • One bottle [750mL] Château Raymond-Lafon 2003 Sauternes
  • One half-bottle [375mL] Château Raymond-Lafon 2001 Sauternes

France undoubtedly produces some of the finest wines in the world, but none may be as unique and have as much mystique as the sweet wine from Sauternes. At its core rich, viscous, full-flavored but subtly-scented and botrytis-prone white grape Sémillon, which reaches magical heights when infected with “noble rot” and combined with small amounts of the aromatic and high-acid Sauvignon Blanc to make one of the world’s most revered and longest-lived wines.

Among the producers of these Bordelaise white wines, Château Rieussec has been a leading name in Sauternes for generations. Ranked as a Premier Grand Cru in 1855, it is made with a subtle blend of Sémillon, Sauvignon and Muscadelle. The winery’s estate is one of the largest in the region with 227 acres of vine extending to the border of Fargues and Sauternes, and adjoins famed (perhaps mythical) Château d’Yquem. Acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) in 1984, the techniques remain traditional and specific to the Sauternes region – a single vine produces about a glass of wine.

The 2001 Château Rieussec is a showstopper earning top marks from critics: 100 points – Wine Spectator, 100 – James Suckling, 99 – Wine Advocate, 99 – Jeb Dunnuck. On the nose there is lusciousness, with barley sugar and marmalade, but something brighter than pierces through, maybe somewhere between preserved lemon and salt, but it gives a distinctive, agile aromatic character. In the mouth, full glycerine-rich sweetness and unctuous texture, between nectarine juice and honey, but again that focus, that needle-sharp accuracy to the acidity, the edge of bitter orange, and such lovely length and balance. Top marks from critics: 100 points – Wine Spectator, 100 points – James Suckling, and 99 from both Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and Jeb Dunnuck.

The 2005 vintage is also exceptional! Awarded 96 points by both Wine Spectator and Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. A splendid wine delivering both apricots and honeyed botrytis aromas that are followed through by a dry core, very full-bodied with richness, the sweetness of the yellow jam fruits, apricots and mangoes gliding over the palate. Delicious, and certainly age-worthy.

Produced in the same traditional fashion and of similar style, Château Raymond-Lafon is also ideally located next to Château d’Yquem and has long since been a name to watch when looking for the brilliance and majestic richness of Sauternes. The 2001 offers an inviting perfume packed with honey coated peaches, pineapple, apricot, orange blossom, vanilla and caramel; delivers a delicious mouthful of ripe, sweet, tropical fruit and honey with the perfect amount of lift and freshness. Rated 93 by Robert Parker.

The 2003 earned 92 points from both Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator. Unctuous, boasting bold candied orange and grapefruit peel flavors that lead the way for lush date, glazed pear, pie crust and honey notes. Long and sweet through the finish. Shows the tropical power of the vintage.

One jeroboam [3L] DressMaker “V.4 – New Moon” Cabernet Sauvignon, Central Coast, Paso Robles NV

DressMaker is produced by Desparada, the bold venture into the space between earth and the imagination of owner and winemaker Vailia Form. The name Desparada is the female version of the word “desperado,” meaning someone who is an outlaw, one that marches to a beat of his own. Growing up, Vailia traveled the globe and that wanderlust continued into adulthood, eventually leading her to Paso Robles where she started her own winery in 2009. Desparada represents more than a brand, it represents Vailia’s personality and her journey – a strong independent woman with a purpose, a new winemaker who arrived in a small town dominated for generations by a male cowboy ethos. She is an outlier, working on a frontier with no rules. Desparada has become a name much bigger than her label. The perfect name for this extraordinary wine, made by an extraordinary winemaker.

DressMaker, conceived in 2012, is a Solera-style Cabernet Sauvignon produced by Desparada that started as a simple experiment, a jaunt into territory barely anyone else has explored – blending multiple vintages of Cabernet. Now, almost a decade in the making, it’s far beyond a jaunt, and even further beyond simple. It’s a supremely complex wine that integrates vintages from each harvest, evoking the best of their characteristics. A perfect balance of old vintage depth and new vintage vibrance. Each year Vailia obsesses over the nuances of integrating a new vintage, from vineyard sources to fermentation vessels and oak regimens – every tiny detail. The final release will be in 2026, containing 12 vintages, and the complete collection will comprise of eight releases that wane and wax with each lunar phase.

Released in 2020, DressMaker “V.4 – New Moon” is the 4th iteration of this unique Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from five vineyards on the Central Coast: D’Anbino, Star Lane, Chelle Mountain, TTT, and Coghlin. Bold and structured; tastes like astral projections, marionberry truffles, Willy Wonka’s mugshot, and Hamlet’s soliloquy. prismatic, full of fascinating contradictions—bulletproof yet delicate, fresh yet mature, focused yet endlessly nuanced. Only 49 cases produced.

Private tour and tasting for four at The Clubhouse at Domaine Serene

Grace and Ken Evenstad first arrived and settled in the Dundee Hills in the Willamette Valley in 1989. At that time, the couple had spent over 20 years together in Minnesota building a successful business, a loving family, and a deep appreciation for the wines of Burgundy. With the support of their family – and to the surprise of many of their friends in Minnesota – the Evenstads established Domaine Serene, effectively creating Oregon’s luxury wine industry. Today, Domaine Serene produces wines from six individual vineyard estates, planted exclusively to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Each estate offers a diversity of soils, clones, rootstocks, microclimates, slopes and elevations that add distinguishing complexity and elegance to the wines. Domaine Serene’s wines represent the achievement that is possible in Oregon, one of the finest regions in the world for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Two magnums [1.5L] LANDO 2019 Pinot Noir, one each: Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast; PLUS, tour and tasting at the winery estate and inclusion on mailing list for three couples.

Sam Lando started his career in the wine business in the mid-nineties working for two global wine producers, and soon identified his true love of working with small boutique wineries…and Pinot Noir. While his emphasis was sales and marketing, he realized early on the need to understand as much as possible about differing winemaking and viticulture techniques. The second half of his employed career was working with and becoming friends with some of the best new world Pinot Noir producers in the Russian River Valley, it was a natural evolution to begin hobby winemaking. In the summer of 2012, Sam and his wife Jennifer decided to make the leap and take their winemaking hobby to the next level. They borrowed against their savings and began building the foundation to develop a small Pinot Noir focused winery. With ten vintages now under their belts, LANDO Wines has become a sought-after, boutique producer of highly-allocated Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays from the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast appellations. They only offer their wines for sale twice a year and most of what they produce is allocated to their

mailing list of friends via specific offerings (distributed twice a year via email) based on the individual’s tenure as a list member, purchase history, and what Mother Nature blessed them with for their current vintage. The focus is to produce wines with fresh fruit, intensity, and elegance…wines they enjoy drinking and sharing with their friends. For more information or to join the mailing list, visit www.landowines.com

This lot consists of two magnums from the LANDO 2019 vintage showcasing Pinot Noirs from their two AVAs of focus. The first, Russian River Valley, has a nicely coiled energy, with bright acidity piercing the core of Damson plum, cherry paste, and red licorice flavors, imbuing them with focus and energy through the finish, where subtle hints of savory add sparkle. Drink now through 2026. Rated 92 – Wine Spectator. The Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is richly fruity, with opulent red raspberry and cherry tart flavors and toasty accents. This has a rich acidity that carries through the finish, which offers cooking spice notes. Drink now through 2027. Rated 93 – Wine Spectator.

Plus, the winning bidder will receive a tour and tasting for up to six guests with Sam Lando and three coveted spots on their mailing. Visit must be arranged on a mutually agreeable date and time. Unless arrangements are made two months prior, this experience must be redeemed before 12/20/2023.

Three-bottle [750ml] vertical William Cole Vineyards Cuvée Claire Cabernet Sauvignon (2017-2019); PLUS, private tour and tasting for four guests.

Engrossed in rich history, William Cole Vineyards dates to the late nineteenth century.  William and Jane Ballentine acquired the stunning property in 1999. With the winery doors closed since prohibition, they enthusiastically began many years of renovation from the original 1873 stone building. The property was marked as a historical landmark and the cellar doors were reopened in 2004, allowing for the first stone winery in Napa Valley to be a fully functioning winery once again. Since then, William and Jane have made it a priority to uphold the integrity of what was once before and what will be after. For decades, William Cole Vineyards has been a family-operated winery consisting of small-production, exquisite wines.

Cultivated primarily from William Cole estate vines, this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is the cornerstone of their portfolio. Starting with 120 cases in 1997, this wine is named after William and Jane Ballentine’s daughter, Claire. The Cuvée Claire is made beautifully to age for years or enjoy right away.

The 2017 Cuvée Claire Cabernet Sauvignon is packed with personality and rich in color. The nose welcomes you in with cherry and dark chocolate, followed by ripe fruit and black currants accentuated on the palate. The well-balanced body uplifted by caramel, vanilla and spice lead you to a soft and refined finish. This vintage is sure to make a great addition to your cellar or an evening with friends. The premier 2018 vintage has a bold nose with characteristics of blackberries, tobacco and ripe juicy fruit. The finish is elegant and lingers with touches of toasty oak and caramel. And, the 2019, which is a stunning dark ruby color with a vibrant magenta glow. The nose invites you in with the ripe red fruit aromas of cherry, raspberry, and strawberry. It reveals hints of caramel and chocolate with subtle nuances of tobacco and rose petals. The palate is balanced and well-rounded with a lingering velvety mouthfeel.

Included with this lot is a private tour of the historic 1873 stone winery as well as a seated tasting of their flagship Cuvée Claire Cabernet Sauvignon! Expires December 2023.

Two magnums [1.5L] Spottswoode Estate Wines, one each: 2019 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2020 Sauvignon Blanc.

Red wine and white Wine Enthusiasts: rejoice and toast to harmony with this lot of two magnum-sized bottles of Spottswoode Estate vintages.

The 2019 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is superb, receiving a rating of 98 from Robert Parker, 97 from both Jeb Dunnuck and Wine Enthusiast, 96 from James Suckling, and 95 from Wine Spectator. A velvety dark purple in color, it possesses, according to James Suckling, “ripe blackberries, blackcurrants, cocoa powder, dried thyme and walnut husk on the nose. It’s full-bodied, chewy and compact [on the palate] with firm tannins…structured, polished and well balanced.” This vintage is universally noted for its balance and purity but could be held for thirty years to develop its full potential.

Meanwhile, the bright and exhilarating 2020 Spottswoode Sauvignon Blanc has been no less praised. Gold in color, giving citrus notes and a hint of oak and vanilla, this white wine finishes exceptionally well, receiving stellar ratings from critics. Robert Parker, James Suckling, and Jeb Dunnuck each rated this vintage 92, and Wine Enthusiast awarded a 94. Though it will keep for ten to fifteen years, it may be hard to resist opening immediately. Pair it with sumptuous seafood or grilled chicken and a creamy linguine for an absolutely heavenly culinary experience.

Look, Spottswoode wine is undoubtedly superb. The multi-generational Spottwsoode vineyard has always been committed to stewardship of the land and is one of the first certified organic vineyards in California, receiving its California Certified Organic Farmers certificate in 1992. It is also one of the first major wineries run by women, beginning with matriarch Mary Weber Novak in 1972. The beautiful historic estate home seen on the winery’s signature bottles dates to the Victorian era in 1882, and exactly one hundred years later, Mary Novak released the estate’s first Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery has since been called both a reference point for classic fine wine and, referring to the Cabernet Sauvignon, the “Grace Kelly of Napa Valley wines.” Don’t miss the opportunity to add these two fabulous bottles to your collection!

Ten-bottle [750mL] Domaine Carneros collection, three each: Taittinger 2014 Brut, Avant Garde 2018 Pinot Noir Rosé, Tattinger 2014 Blanc de Blancs; and one Taittinger 2013 Le Rêve.

Here is a chance to begin or enhance your fine wine collection with ten bottles from the internationally celebrated vineyards of Domaine Carneros Napa Valley. The winery was founded in 1987 by Claude Taittinger, the famous French producer of Taittinger Champagne. Originally 138 acres, the vineyards now span 400 acres in the Carneros AVA, with 150 planted to Chardonnay and 250 planted to Pinot Noir. To this day, Domaine Carneros follows a traditional French approach to both its sparkling wine and still wine production, while leveraging the cool foggy conditions created by the nearby San Pablo Bay.

Included in this collection is a bottle of Taittinger La Rêve from the 2013 vintage. La Rêve is a beautiful sparkling wine made entirely from estate-grown Chardonnay. The 2013 vintage won the coveted Silver Medal at the 2021 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, and Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator each awarded this vintage a remarkable 94 points. Expect this to be a lovely brut wine, velvety and complex on the palate, with notes of hazelnut.

Also included are three bottles of Taittinger 2014 Brut. Wine Enthusiast rated this vintage 94/100, Wine Spectator – 92. Expect bright, tart flavor, full of vivacity. Next are three bottles of 2018 Avant Garde Pinot Noir Rose. This gorgeous and bright vintage is peachy in color, with rich fruity tones. Pairs wonderfully with white fish. Finally, three bottles of Taittinger 2014 Blanc de Blancs round out the collection. Another vivacious wine with bold and complex fruity tones on the palate, Domaine Carneros suggests, “this elegant wine would pair beautifully with a pear and endive salad, macadamia encrusted halibut, or tilapia with a rich cream sauce.”

Eight Bottles [750mL] Spanish Reds, one each:

  • One Bodegas Ismael Arroyo Val Sotillo 1994 Gran Reserva Red Blend, Ribera del Duero
  • Two Rotllan Torra Tirant 1997 Red Blend, Priorat
  • One Artadi Pagos Viejos 1998 Rioja, La Guardia
  • One Artadi Pagos Viejos 2001 Rioja, La Guardia
  • One Celler Vall Llach 2000 Red Blend Priorat DOC
  • Legado Tres Uvas 2011 Mendoza Argentina

Let’s start with the compelling 1994 Valsotillo Gran Reserva, which per the importer is “a superbo thermonuclear fruit bomb.” A famous French-American taster (living in Paris) would call it a “whoop-di-do” wine. It is a remarkably youthful red that has been aged for 2 1/2 years in American oak, and another 2 years in the bottle. There were only 150 cases of this oversized Ribera del Duero available in the United States! The wine offers a black/purple color as well as a gorgeously sweet bouquet of blackberries, truffles, licorice, and smoke. As the wine sits in the glass, earth, mushroom, and vanillin emerge. It is hugely extracted and nicely layered, with mouth-staining levels of extract and tannin. Promises to last for 3-4 decades. The tannin is sweet enough to become fully integrated, and acidity is present, but well-integrated. This is a wine for true connoisseurs. Rated 95 by Robert Parker and 96 by Wine Enthusiast. Enjoy now through 2035.

The 1997 Rotllan Torra Tirant would easily be a dead ringer for a southern Rhone and showed a surprising amount of spice and garrigue notes to go along with the subtle mineral, earth, and sweet fruit aromas. The palate really shines on this wine and is medium to full-bodied with a gorgeous texture that is smooth, mouth-filling, and perfectly balanced. The finish is long and shows great depth and grip. Excellent and drinking very well. Rated a 93 by Jeb Dunnuck and a 92 by Robert Parker.

The 1998 Artadi Pagos Viejos is superb! Robert Parker – 96 points, “Pagos Viejos is one of the greatest Riojas I have ever tasted. A dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by a sweet nose of violets, black fruits, minerals, toasty new oak, and smoke. The wine is full-bodied, with gorgeous purity, amazing symmetry for its exceptional size, and an incredibly well-delineated finish. In short, it is great stuff!” Anticipated maturity: 2005-2025.

Rated 97 by Robert Parker, “Aged 18 months in 100% new French oak from 75-year old Tempranillo vines, the 2001 Pagos Viejos is one of Spain’s greatest wines. A singular red of extraordinary stature and intensity, it exhibits an inky/ruby/purple color as well as a luxurious bouquet of lead pencil shavings, black and blue fruits, espresso roast, and floral notes. This full-bodied, dense 2001 possesses layers of flavor, a sweet integration of tannin and wood, and a finish that lasts for nearly a minute.”

The Celler Vall Llach 2000 Red Blend Priorat DOCa is the flagship cuvee from proprietor Luis Llach, a well-known local folk singer. A blend of 50% old vine Carignan, 35% Merlot, and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, it boasts an opaque purple color as well as a gorgeous bouquet of crushed black raspberries intermixed with powdered stones, white flowers, blackberries, and licorice. Once past the perfume, this is a wine of great purity and presence with a full-bodied, concentrated, layered mouthfeel. It looks to be a brilliant Priorato that should hit its stride in 5-6 years, and last for two decades. Only 150 cases were available in the United States. Rated 96 by Robert Parker and 95 by Wine Enthusiast.

The Legado Tres Uvas 2011 Mendoza is the only Argentine wine among this crew – is deep purple in color. This wine offers notes of red plum, blueberries, leather and vanilla. Medium acid with hints of cherry and cedar with a bold and long finish.

Two bottles [750mL] Accendo Cellars 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

An undoubtedly fabulous wine from an elite producer – don’t miss this opportunity to take home these stunning bottles!

Six bottles [750mL] Tribaut-Schloesser L’Authentique Extra Brut Champagne

For those who appreciate the finesse of a true Champagne from France, we offer six bottles of L’Authentique Extra Brut Champagne from the Tribaut-Schloesser Champagne House. The grapes that make up this luscious, yet lively, blend of eighty percent Pinot Noir and twenty percent Chardonnay are grown on old vines in a special Grand Cru region of Aÿ, France, as well as Eúceil and Romery, and aged for eight years in oak casks. Less than 5,000 bottles are produced each year of this award-winning Champagne, each one numbered.

On the palate, Tribaut-Schloesser L’Authentique Champagne is complex, elegant, and bright, with notes of buttery vanilla and caramel. Jancis Robinson, British wine critic who has advised the late Queen Elizabeth II, rates it an immaculate 17/20.

This extra-dry Champagne would be absolutely indulgent paired with lobster, oysters, or roasted chicken in Herbs de Provence (for those who prefer to remain on the land). Enough bottles are included with this collection to give some away as gifts and to save some – up to eight years – for those very special occasions.

One jeroboam [3L] Herman Story Chelle Mountain 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon, York Mountain, Central Coast

Proprietor and winemaker Russell P. From began Herman Story Wines in 2001 with seven barrels stashed in his employer’s cellar. What started as a modest homage to his rancher grandfather has become a beacon to those seeking opulent, structured wines. To maintain balance while giving flavor full stage, Russell works with 30 top-tier vineyards in over seven distinct growing regions between Santa Barbara and Paso Robles. These are no-nonsense, balls-to-the-walls wines that are not for the faint of heart.

Chelle Mountain, on top of York Mountain, is a place Russell particularly loves. With strong winds and vines, it’s become a place he’s devoted to producing only a tiny amount of Cabernet Sauvignon. The result? Rich, charismatic, and flat-out incredible grapes – Russell says the best he’s ever known. The 2017 vintage was barreled 30 months in 100% new French Oak and has the potential to cellar for 10-15 years. The tasting notes? Among the most fun we’ve read in a while! … the 2017 is a fistfight between family during Sunday croquet. Great Aunt Mildred pushes your face into blackcurrant pie and stepsister May brandishes two mallets, swinging wildly. White linen shirts splattered with melted caramel and honey-jasmine pastry filling. The manicured lawn torn by leather Lacostes, exposing wet sand and soil. Candied apple projectiles caught up in the ocean breeze. And here’s estranged cousin Rick on his Triumph Bonneville with that look in his eye, jacket collar popped, back from the arm wrestling tournament and recently certified in conflict resolution. This is masterful mediation as he calms the crowd, then nails six wickets straight.

Full of personality, this huge wine certainly “packs a punch.” If you love big, bold Cabs, this is for you!

Six-year vertical Beaux Frères (2010-2015) The Beaux Frères Vineyard Pinot Noir [750mL bottles]

The Beaux Frères Vineyard sits atop Ribbon Ridge in beautiful Oregon and is primarily planted to Pinot Noir with densely spaced vines, as is the common practice in France, resulting in a profoundly flavorful grape. Beaux Frères uniquely uses biodynamic farming principles and minimal racking to reduce oxygen exposure during fermentation. This nonconventional approach allows the wine to better retain the nuanced flavors that emerge from the terroir. As an added benefit, this technique results in less sulfur usage (a preservative to which some wine lovers can be quite sensitive).

This lot provides for the winning bidder a quintessential vertical tasting in which to compare the subtle differences that develop from year-to-year in the same grape, grown in the same soil. Six bottles of Beaux Frères Pinot Noir are included, one from each vintage from 2010 through 2015. We suggest a non-blind tasting, beginning with the youngest wine and ending with a full glass for each guest of their favorite vintage. Overall, you can expect a truly refined Pinot Noir of gorgeous ruby color, medium-bodied, with impressive clarity and complex ripe fruit flavors that transition into lovely tannins and a great finish.

The oldest vintage in this vertical (2010) was rated an excellent 93 by Wine Spectator and will be absolutely divine at this stage of aging. 2011 was reported to be a very challenging year, and yet Beaux Frères vineyard produced an unchanged grape and excellent wine, rated 93 again by Wine Spectator. 2012 was considered a stellar year for Oregon growers overall, and this vintage of Pinot Noir from Beaux Frères is impeccable. Wine Spectator rated the 2012 vintage an outstanding 95. The 2013 growing season at the vineyard was a bit wet toward the end, but otherwise very similar to 2012, and Wine Spectator again rated this vintage 95. The following year, James Suckling rated the 2014 vintage 95, as did Wine Spectator. For the final and youngest vintage in this vertical (2015), James Suckling rated it a phenomenal 96, and Wine Spectator rated it 95. Exquisite.

Six-year vertical Beaux Frères (2010, 2012-2016) The Upper Terrace Pinot Noir [750mL bottles]

Presenting the perfect opportunity to expand your wine knowledge and hone your discernment, while enjoying some of Oregon’s finest Pinot Noir. From the distinguished vineyards of Beaux Frères – specifically, their 10-acre south-facing vineyard called The Upper Terrace – we offer a six-year vertical of The Upper Terrace Pinot Noir, beginning with the youngest vintage from 2016, and ending with the oldest from 2010 (note that 2011 saw no vintage at The Upper Terrace due to flooding, so this remains a true vertical, despite the missing year). These vintages will all be medium-to-full-bodied, immensely exquisite and layered, with heavenly nuances. We will defer to the winning bidder to decide if the differences between each are subtle or dramatic.

The 2016 vintage was rated an outstanding 96 by both Robert Parker and Wine Spectator. Robert Parker notes, “red cherries and cranberries, sliced blueberries and strawberry jam with notes of cola, cardamom, oolong tea leaves and blue flowers.” Expect this to be wonderfully savory with subtle earthy flavors and a long finish. The 2015 vintage is no less seductive, rated 95 by Wine Spectator and possesses excellent structure and potency. The 2014 vintage was awarded a 94 from Wine Spectator and contains some detectable smoky accents. 2013 was another stellar year, and this vintage is rated 96 by Wine Spectator. Harvey Steinman of Wine Spectator notes espresso tones in this vintage, a velvety palate, and a savory finish. 2012 achieved an even higher rating from Wine Spectator of 97. Finally, the oldest vintage, 2010, received a 92 from Wine Spectator and is noted to be a touch lighter and more floral.

No food pairing is necessary during a vertical wine tasting, though a palate cleanser of light, plain crackers is a must, and no one will likely complain about the addition of a light cheese. And charcuterie board. Savor at least two sips of each vintage before moving on, to allow the palate to detect the full range of flavors. Take copious notes, and enjoy the ensuing discussion!

Two magnums [1.5L] Dunn Vineyards Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, one each: 2016 and 2017; PLUS, tour and tasting for four

The story of Dunn Vineyards is one of heartwarming family values and a commitment to the careful nurturing of land and vine for over forty-four years. Offered here from this appellation uniquely set in the Howell Mountains of Napa Valley are two magnum-sized 2016 and 2017 vintages of Dunn Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain, complete with the Dunn Vineyards signature hand-dipped red wax seal, and a vineyard tour and tasting for four.

The 2016 vintage of the Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain was rated an incredible 99 by Jeb Dunnuck, and 95 by Wine Spectator. The wine stands out with density, complexity, and a spectacular finish. Notes of dark fruit and herbal tones give way to flourishing tannins and a mix of earthy flavors. Critic, Antonio Galloni, detects “a whole range of inky Howell Mountain fruit, graphite, grilled herb, licorice, spice, chocolate, and lavender nuances” in this vintage. See if you can distinguish the differences between this and the included 2017 vintage, which was harvested during the devastating California wildfires, but nevertheless remains true to a signature Dunn Cabernet: medium-to-full-bodied, savory, elegant – and a little rebellious. Robert Parker rated the 2017 vintage a 96, Wine Spectator rated it 95, and Jeb Dunnuck rated it 92. Host a delectable vertical wine tasting with friends to compare the two vintages. Or, tuck one – or both – away to age for ten or more years and experience the previously hidden flavors and refined distinctions that will gracefully develop.

This lot also includes a tasting and a rare tour of Dunn Vineyards in Napa Valley, California, which is not officially open to the public. See the caves and tunnels that owner, Randy Dunn, dug in the 1980s to store his wine barrels, and drink in the mountain landscape. Since 1978, the 42-acre vineyard has rested in the Howell Mountain AVA, which is uniquely situated at a higher elevation (beginning at 1400) than its Napa Valley neighbors. This position experiences slightly different weather than the valley, including less fog, which results in a unique harvest. Tours are usually very limited and are often sold out – enjoy!

Three Bottles [750mL] Pulido~Walker 2019 Mt Veeder Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

Here is your chance to taste and own the Cabernet Sauvignon vintage that is sweeping the world off its feet with this trio from Pulido~Walker’s Mt. Veeder Estate, which Robert Parker calls “a stunning success” and Jeb Dunnuck raves is “one of the crème de la crème of the vintage and should be snatched up.”

This vintage was rated an incredible 99 by Jeb Dunnuck and 98 by Robert Parker, and can be fully enjoyed today or, for a yet more lavish experience, cellared no later than 2045. In the glass, this is full of aromatic florals, cassis, and blackberries. Full-bodied and complex on the palate, with excellent, already softening tannins.

The Mt. Veeder Estate sits above the Napa Valley fog line in the Mt. Veeder appellation, where the grapes benefit from a longer growing season and the ability to ripen sublimely. The soil is composed of weathered sandstone, ancient shale, and clay loam. 2019 was an all-around great weather year in Mt. Veeder. Don’t miss this legendary vintage!

Twelve bottles [750mL] Lewis Cellars 2017 Alec’s Red Blend

Indulge in an exclusive and unique red blend, produced by the dedicated, small-scale Lewis Cellars family winery in the Oak Knoll district of Napa Valley, California. Lewis Cellars produces only 9,000 cases annually of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc, choosing to remain affectionately hands-on in the art of winemaking, from cultivation to fermentation, to distribution. The winery takes advantage of the slightly cooler climate of the prestigious Oak Knoll AVA to harvest a bold, world-class grape.

The 2017 vintage of Alec’s Red Blend is artfully comprised of a Syrah base, blended with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Wine Spectator rates the vintage a spectacular 93 points and Jeb Dunnuck 92 points. Expect this wine to be medium to full-bodied, beautifully fruit-forward, with ripe young tannins and a progressive mixture of spice, mocha, lead pencil, and oak. Alec’s Red Blend will drink well through 2029. Pairs well with lamb or steak, or, perhaps bring out a bottle for a fondue party or chocolate tasting. A luscious and rare experience awaits, with enough in this lot to cellar a few bottles and also share generously. Only 1,000 cases of this vintage were produced.

Three magnums [1.5L] Hirsch Vineyards 2018 Reserve Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast; PLUS, private tasting for up to six guests.

Hirsch Vineyards is a pioneer of Pinot Noir plants along the Sonoma Coast. In fact, it is the oldest premium Pinot Noir vineyard on the true Sonoma Coast. It was founded in 1980 by David Hirsch, who up until 2002, sold his grapes to other wineries. He became highly sought after for the quality of his Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. David finally made the decision to start creating his own wines after 22 years of solely focusing on planting and farming vines. Ironically, building the vineyard helped him better understand the land, which allowed him to better farm it and create higher-quality wines. The extreme terrain of the vineyards creates wines with high acidity and elegant balance.

These magnums of 2018 Sonoma Coast Reserve Estate Pinot Noir were rated 93+ by Wine Advocate. The reserve has a pale ruby color and elegant expression this vintage, with pretty aromas of peppercorn, bay leaves, red berries and rose petal perfume. The medium-bodied palate is layered and spicy with a soft, juicy frame and long, delicately styled finish. Drink now through 2025.

Also included in this lot is a private tasting for 6 guests. Experience the extreme Sonoma Coast through the lens of Hirsch Vineyard wines. Enjoy a private tasting of Hirsch’s highly sought-after Pinot Noirs and Chardonnay at the winery’s tasting room in downtown Healdsburg; expires 3/4/2024.

Two bottles [750mL] Domaine des Lambrays 2017 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru de Bourgogne, Morey-Saint-Denis, France.

Only 165 cases were imported of this vintage, produced in one of Burgundy, France’s Grand Cru (i.e., highest designated) subregions: the Clos des Lambrays. The cellars of the gorgeous Domaine des Lambrays estate date back to the seventeenth century, evoking romantic reminders of the monks who long ago tended the region’s land and vines with scrupulous care, establishing France as the preeminent master of the world’s finest wine. The Clos des Lambrays region, to this day, primarily produces unrivaled Pinot noir grapes, of which this vintage is no less celebrated.

The Clos des Lambrays 2017 from Domaine des Lambrays sings on the palate with vibrant cherry and black currant mixed with warm spices and a hint of graphite and tobacco. Rated a deserving 95 by Wine Spectator and 93 by Robert Parker, this vintage was aged underground in half new oak barrels and is expected to unwind and harmonize beautifully with time, through 2040. A delightful plan might be to taste one bottle now and open the other in fifteen or so years to compare – if you can wait that long!

Ten bottles of Veuve Clicquot, including 2 magnums [1.5L] and 8 standard [750mL] (four each Brut and Rosé)

Cheers to this bountiful lot of exuberant sparkling wine from Goodson Brothers Coffee Company, produced by the world-famous Veuve Clicquot Champagne House!

Included are two magnum-sized (1.5L) bottles of Brut, rated 90 by Wine Spectator. This exceptional Champagne is fruit-forward, slightly toasty, with a creamy finish. Also included are four bottles of Brut, enough to share and enjoy throughout the year’s festivities, and four bottles of Veuve Clicquot Rosé, rated 91 by Wine Spectator. The Rosé is enchanting and balances tangy citrus notes with a rich finish. Imagine admiring this gorgeous wine in the glass, surrounded by fresh strawberries and cream!

The Champagne House of Veuve Clicquot was famously overseen by the spirited and innovative Madame Clicquot in the seventeenth century, after her husband passed, at a time when women were rarely seen as leaders. La Grande Dame Clicquot invented the process of “riddling,” which to this day is used to give wine it’s beautiful clarity. Veuve Clicquot is nonpareil in the art of Champagne, and its historic cellars are now a Unesco World Heritage site. This collection is truly one to savor, with enough to share with loved ones. Bid quickly!

One magnum [1.5L] Opus One 2009 Red Blend, Napa Valley

In 1979, Opus One was the realized dream of two men: Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux, France, and Napa Valley vintner Robert Mondavi, founder of Robert Mondavi Winery. They created a partnership with the mission to create a single wine, made in the Bordeaux style from grapes grown in the US, dedicated to the pursuit of uncompromising quality. Continuing today that singular mission, Opus One continues to receive superlative wine ratings from experts around the world.

Opus One is a single wine, a Bordeaux Blend sourced from the estate vineyards in Oakville, which include blocks of the famous To Kalon vineyard. Although it is primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, Opus One makes use of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec in smaller percentages. The 2009 vintage is 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot, 3% Merlot, 1% Malbec.  Aromas of black olive and minerals underlie more traditional notes of dark chocolate, cola and espresso. Showing flavors of ripe blueberry, cassis, and licorice, this age-worthy wine simultaneously offers a smooth finish and a slight grip of tannin at the close. An outstanding wine with superior character and style! Rated 93 – James Suckling, 93 – Jeb Dunnuck, and 92 – Wine Spectator.

Four-magnum [1.5L] vertical Fess Parker “Ashley’s Pinot Noir” Sta. Rita Hills, Santa Barbara (2016-2019); PLUS, library tasting for 4 guests.

When Fess Parker purchased the 714-acre Foxen Canyon Ranch in 1988, his dream was to start a family business that future generations would want to be a part of, expand upon and ultimately make their own. Fess passed away in 2010 but the businesses he founded remain in good hands with second and third-generation family members stepping up and taking the reins. His wish to remain family owned and operated is alive and well. How fitting this lot includes four large formats – perfect for enjoying with your family and friends!

The winery’s “Ashley’s Pinot Noir” is a single vineyard wine soured in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA, which consistently receives top scores from critics. Named after Fess’ daughter, Ashley, this hillside vineyard site sits only 12 miles from the cold Pacific Ocean with sandy, low-vigor soils; a perfect scenario for Pinot Noir.

The 2016 vintage offers aromas of wood smoke, earth, berries, and aromatic bark. On the palate, it’s full-bodied, rich and supple, with a layered mid-palate, fine-grained tannins and a generous but balanced profile. Rated 94 – Jeb Dunnuck, 93 – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, 92 – Wine Spectator. The 2017 “30th anniversary” vintage also received high marks from critics: 94 – Jeb Dunnuck, 93 – Wine Enthusiast, 92 – Wine Advocate, 91 – Wine Spectator, and 93 – Vinous. A wonderfully complex, balanced, nuanced effort that offers loads of character…it offers classic notes of black raspberries, currants, ground herbs, forest floor, and earth. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated, with plenty of ripe tannins, it’s a layered, complex Pinot Noir.

The 2018 was rated 91 – Wine Enthusiast, 93 – Jeb Dunnuck. Offers a pure, elegant, complex style that carries lots of red fruits, spicy incense, flowers, and a touch of briny, marine-like influence. Medium-bodied, nicely textured, and elegant, it has good acidity and fine tannins. Again, high marks for the 2019 vintage: 93 – Wine Enthusiast, 93 – Jeb Dunnuck, and 93 – Vinous. A juicy, exuberant wine. Super-ripe red cherry fruit, sage, tobacco, cedar and mint all soar out of the glass.

What an incredible lineup of their highly-acclaimed Ashley’s Pinot Noir! Plus, for the winning bidder and three guests, a tasting experience at the winery estate – a top destination in the Santa Ynez Valley (north of Santa Barbra in Los Olivos). Fess Parker Winery’s Library Room tasting experience gives guests the opportunity to venture back in time and explore the Fess Parker Family’s 30+ years of winemaking history in Santa Barbara County. Collector’s Selection of six bottles [750mL] Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, one each: 2007 Cardinale, 2013 Burly Coombsville, 2015 Corison Sunbasket Vineyard, 2015 Constant Diamond Creek Vineyards, 2016 Quintessa Rutherford, 2018 Stags Leap ‘Artemis’

This special lot forms an instant fine wine portfolio, designed to perfectly kick off the new collector or to bring exquisite variety to the connoisseur’s cellar. The 2007 Cardinale Cabernet Sauvignon has mouth-filling fruit, supple texture, velvety tannins, and distinctive anise and graphite notes. Mountain vineyards contributed approximately 90% of the grapes to the blend and time has rounded their youthful edges. Fruit from warmer benchland vineyards in Oakville and St. Helena enhance the mid-palate and richness. Rated 95 by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. The Burley 2013 Special Selection Coombsville offers aromas of espresso and mocha that give way to an intense mix of gravelly earth, dark berry, chocolate, and cedary oak, maintaining a bold expression of flavors and a long, full finish. Drink now through 2030. Rated 92 by Wine Spectator. Constant Diamond Mountain Vineyard may just be the highest (2121’), oldest (1895) vineyard, and smallest winery in the Napa Valley. The winery’s location at the top of the Diamond Mountain District appellation is, perhaps, one of the best places in the world to grow Bordeaux varietals and is unequivocally, the most beautiful and romantic. The other 2015 offered here is Corison Caberent from Sunbasket Vineyard, which offers lots of dried flowers with blackberry and blackcurrant characters in the nose. Medium body, a very tight and focused palate, and a beautiful finish. Ready to be enjoyed now. Rated 94 by James Suckling and 94 by Antonio Galloni.

The Quintessa 2016 Rutherford (technically a Red Blend but predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon) offers phenomenal aromas of crushed berries, forest fruit, mushrooms and iron. Medium to full body, with layers of soft and refined tannins that follow through to a beautiful finish. Extremely long and refined. This shows depth and structure with balance and harmony. Hard not to open the bottle now! Rated 98 by James Suckling and 95 by Robert Parker. Last but not least the 2018 Stag Leap ‘Artemis,’ a chewy red with blackberry, blackcurrant, and dark-chocolate character. Full-bodied with polished tannins and a savory finish. Rated 93 by James Suckling and 91 by Wine Spectator.

Three bottles [750mL] Realm 2012 Napa Valley Red Wine One Each: The Bard, Farella Vineyard, Beckstoffer To Kalon

Realm founder Juan Mercado intertwined his love or Shakespeare with his love for wine adopting names for each wine based on characters that appear in the plays. Every bottle is labeled with the following line from the Tragedy of King Richard II, “This blessed plot, this earth, this REALM”.

Let’s start with the 100-point (Jeb Dunnuck) ‘The Bard.’ This Proprietary Red is a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot, meant to showcase the finest Cabernet Sauvignon grapes they access from such great Napa Valley sites as Beckstoffer To Kalon, Beckstoffer Dr. Crane, Fortuna, and Weitz. Beautiful notes of pungent baking spices, licorice, melted chocolate, espresso, blackberries, and cassis soar from the glass of this ostentatious, flamboyant, classic, locked-and-loaded Cabernet Sauvignon. There is some tannin lurking under the surface, but this majestic superstar behaves as if it wants to be drunk young as well as over the next 15-20 years. The flagship of Realm’s portfolio, The Bard is always incredibly special and complex!

The single-vineyard 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard comes from a hillside, cool-climate site in the Coombsville AVA in the eastern Vaca Mountains. In the past, much of this fruit went into early vintages of Opus One. This is a tannic, opulent, backward, primary effort displaying an inky/purple color along with notes of incense, camphor, toast, and abundant black fruits. Full-bodied, dramatic, slightly tannic, and structured, this masculine-styled 2012 will benefit from several years in the cellar and should drink well for two decades. A true first-growth vineyard is the Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard, which is located in the heart of St. Helena just off Route 29. The vineyard is planted primarily with Cabernet Sauvignon and two small parcels of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. For whatever reason, anyone who gets fruit off this vineyard tends to make wines that hit every sweet spot on the palate. Rated 96+ – Robert Parker, 95 – Antonio Galloni, 90 – Wine Spectator.

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon emerges from another first-growth vineyard that was acquired by Andy Beckstoffer in 1993, and planted with multiple clones of Cabernet Sauvignon and a small amount of Cabernet Franc. The original vineyard was planted in 1868, but the present one consists of nearly 90 acres. The 2012 reveals incredible complexity and density with notes of Christmas fruitcake, baking spices, licorice, crème de cassis, and forest floor. Full-bodied with the vintage’s opulence and drama, this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon was fashioned from Clones 4 and 337. It should age effortlessly for 25-30 years. Rated 96 – James Suckling, 94 – Antonio Galloni, 93 – Wine Spectator. Drink now through 2029.

Two magnums [1.5L] Domaine de la Côte ‘Memorious’ Pinot Noir, one each: 2018 and 2019.

Domaine de la Côte is a Californian wine label owned and run by the high-profile sommelier-winemaker duo of Rajat Parr and Sashi Moorman. It covers a series of Pinot Noir vineyards in the Santa Rita Hills region of Santa Barbara.  The vineyards themselves are all found on the western edge of the Sta. Rita Hills AVA, six miles from the Pacific Ocean. Planted on south-facing slopes, with high-density Pinot Noir, the vineyard designated labels include Bloom’s Field, La Côte, and Memorius. Such distinct expression of site, or terroir, in such close proximity, is unparalleled in California. Domaine da la Côte organically farms its vineyards and makes its wines with the philosophy of “add nothing; take nothing away.” All the wines are produced and bottled at the winery in the town of Lompoc in Santa Barbara County.

The 2018 Domaine de la Côte Pinot Noir Memorious has a medium ruby color and pretty scents of fresh blue and black berry fruits with notes of cracked pepper, dried herbs and flowers. The medium-bodied palate is delicately styled and silky, with floral-laced fruits, bright freshness and a long, perfumed finish. Only 314 cases produced. Rated 93 by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.

The 2019 is a brilliant, nervy wine. Bright acids drive a core of red/purplish fruit, with hints of red fruit, mint, sage, and blood orange that develop later. Rated 90+ by Antonio Galloni. Drink beginning in 2025 until 2034.

Eight bottles [750mL] Constant Diamond Mountain Vineyard varietals, two each: 2014 Syrah, 2014 Claret, 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2017 Chardonnay.

This celebrated Napa Valley estate sits at the absolute peak of Diamond Mountain and benefits from the added elevation – above the fog – to produce a very bold and fruity grape, which results in excellent Bordeaux-style wines that parallel the French region for which they’re named.

The 2014 Syrah is sourced from a small percentage of the vineyard, where the singular “micro-climate” produces a distinct and complex grape. This Rhone-style wine is called “Queen of the Diamonds,” and “the dark horse to [Constant Diamond’s] King of the Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.” It is bold, nuanced, and seductive, and will become more complex with age. The Claret from the 2014 vintage is a quintessential blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. This classic blend will be bold and harmonious, perfect for sharing among friends. The Cabernet Sauvignon is the vineyard’s frontrunner, and the 2015 vintage is as equally exceptional and characteristic of Diamond Mountain’s exclusive climate. Expect complex fruit and beautiful nuance, with flavorful tannins and graceful structure. Last, but certainly not least, the 2017 Chardonnay will round out this collection as “the unexpected crown jewel.” The Diamond Mountain vintners smartly grafted Chardonnay to 26-year-old Merlot rootstock, to produce this captivating flavor profile. The 2017 vintage is buttery, full-bodied, and bright, with apricot undertones. Enough is included in this lot to taste now and save for special occasions.

Two magnums [1.5L] Morlet Family Vineyards 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon One Each: Cœur de Vallée and Passionnément

There’s no bigger passion – or heart – than that of Winemaker Luc Morlet. Morlet Family Vineyards was the 2022 L’Amour du Vin featured winery with Luc Morlet in attendance to introduce the wines. If you were there, you know! The wines are tremendous and Luc and his wife Jodie are among the most kind, generous people around.

Their winery is located in St. Helena, conveniently the heart of the Napa Valley, where Luc and Jodie handcraft vins de terroirs and unique cuvées from the surrounding Napa Valley and Sonoma Coast. Meticulously farmed vineyards and low-intervention winemaking techniques produce powerful yet refined wines displaying personality, complexity, and graceful aging capability. By taking Old World principles and adapting them to California, the Morlet style results in wines which are harmonious in their intensity, richness and refinement. Unwavering commitment to quality leads to small yields, attentive sorting, and the highest standard when blending. Thus, a very limited amount of each wine is produced.

Having received tremendous accolades and international recognition, the highly sought-after wines from Morlet Family Vineyards are available to the winery’s mailing list and can be found at the finest restaurants and specialty wine shops around the world. The wines offered in this lot include:

The 2017 ‘Cœur de Vallée’ Cabernet Sauvignon offers lots of smoky black fruits, graphite, and mineral notes emerge from the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Coeur De Valle, which comes from a mix of To Kalon and the Coeur de Vallee Vineyard and is 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc. It shows the more plush style of To Kalon and is one of the more approachable Cabernets in the lineup, offering full-bodied richness, beautiful mid-palate depth, and a plush, sexy mouthfeel. It still has enough underlying tannins to warrant a few years of bottle age, but it’s going to drink beautifully for a solid two decades. Rated 96 – Jeb Dunnuck.

The 2017 ‘Passionnement’ Cabernet Sauvignon is a gorgeous wine that will stand up to anything in the vintage and is a heavenly wine. Loads of blackcurrants, cassis, damp earth, chocolate, and green tobacco dominate the bouquet of this powerful, full-bodied, opulent wine, which offers more decadence and sweet fruit than almost every other 2017 out there. With beautiful depth of fruit, ripe, silky tannins, and a blockbuster of a finish, it needs a year or three of bottle age and will evolve for two decades or more. The ‘Passionnement’ is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and is always a selection across the single vineyards. Rated 98 by Jeb Dunnuck, 96 by Antonio Galloni.

Nine bottles [750mL] Cornerstone Cellars Oakville Station Reds; three-year horizontals (2015, 2016, 2018), one of each varietal per vintage: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot.

Cornerstone Cellars is a very small, boutique winery in Napa Valley. Their wines are bottled in such small lots – sometimes no more than 100 cases! – and an opportunity to collect nine bottles together, let alone horizontals showcasing vintages, is remarkable. Among these wines are favorites personally selected by Winemaker Kari Auringer, a rising star in Napa Valley winemaking whose led Cornerstone’s efforts for the past decade and a half.

Cornerstone’s production is dedicated to classic, balanced Bordeaux and Rhône varietals and blends. This collection of wines is produced from a blend of two different blocks in the highly-acclaimed Oakville Station Vineyard, a historical 40-acre research vineyard that was once a part of the famous and revered To Kalon vineyard (in fact, it’s literally smack in the middle of To Kalon). For more than 50 years, the staff and students at the University of California in Davis have conducted critical viticulture research at this site, including trials of clones, rootstocks, vine spacing, pruning levels, and irrigation. Sitting proudly at the heart of the Oakville sub-AVA in Napa Valley, the combination of weather, soils, and location makes it the perfect home for world-class Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot.

Cornerstone is one of the very few wineries that makes vineyard-designated wine from this hallowed ground and takes its cue from its illustrious neighbors, usually selling out in record time. So, let’s look at the ratings! Cabernet Sauvignon (2015) 91 – International Wine Report (2016) 94 – Wilfred Wong, 91 – Wine Enthusiast (2018) 90 – Jeb Dunnuck. Cabernet Franc (2016) 90 – Jeb Dunnuck (2018) 90 – Wine Enthusiast. Merlot (2016) 90 – Jeb Dunnuck, 93 – Wine Enthusiast, (2018) 91 – Wine Enthusiast. All nine of these wines are excellent expressions of the Oakville terror.

Look, if you love Oakville Cabernet (the land of Screaming Eagle, Harlan, Dalla Valle, and so many other top producers), there’s nothing more important to do than snag this NOW! Go! Go!

Three-magnum [1.5L] horizontal of Paul Lato 2020 Santa Barbara County wines, one each: “Cinematique” Larner Vineyard Syrah, Ballard Canyon; “Space Cadet” Syrah/Grenache blend; “Seabiscuit” Zotovich Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sta. Rita Hills; PLUS, “Elite Wine” tasting for four at the winery in Santa Maria.

This Gold Coast winery is located in the heart of the Santa Maria Valley. There, low-yielding vines grow on a sandy plateau with great drainage and vines are entirely own rooted. Owner and winemaker Paul Lato’s ultimate goal has always been to create wines that are seamless and textural with enough structure and balance to complement fine cuisine. In order to make wines of the highest caliber, Paul selects unique vineyards that are cared for by talented vineyard managers committed to excellence. If you aren’t familiar with Paul’s story – it couldn’t have been written better. A Polish-born professionally trained sommelier, Paul was first invited to California’s Central Coast by Au Bon Climat’s Jim Clendenen. Years later, he by chance met Robert Parker who had heard of his winemaking efforts and asked to taste his first (unreleased) vintage, of which only six barrels were produced. Parker was impressed with the wines and insisted on being the first to write about the wine and Paul’s tremendous talent. To this day, Paul says, “If I live another 100 years, I will never forget that. It brought tears to my eyes.” Now, with a reputation in his own right, Paul’s winery has become a leading producer of wines in Santa Barbara County, known for their elegance and balanced Burgundian and Rhône-styles.

This lot is a showcase of Paul Lato’s spectacular 2020 vintage of Syrah, Syrah/Grenache Blend, and Pinot Noir – all sourced from Sta. Rita Hills AVA. The 2020 “Cinematique” Larner Vineyard Syrah comes from a site in Ballard Canyon and brought up in 40% new French oak. It’s one ripe, sexy Syrah (per Jeb Dunnuck who awarded the wine 97 points), with tons of ripe blackberries and black raspberry-like fruit as well as ground herbs, pepper, violets, and spicy aromas and flavors. A full-bodied red with beautiful purity of fruit, a layered, ripe, opulent mouthfeel, some firmer underlying tannins, and a big finish. It needs plenty of air if drinking any time soon and is another magical, balanced, opulent wine from Lato to drink over the coming decade. Also rated 97 by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.

The 2020 “Space Cadet” Syrah/Grenache Blend is also sourced from Ballard Canyon. Per Antonio Galloni who awarded 97 points, the wine “..is the star in [this vintage] from Paul Lato.” Silky and aromatic, the 2020 is hauntingly beautiful from the get-go. Inky red/purplish fruit, sage, cedar, tobacco, incense and dried flowers are some of the many notes that race across the palate. All the elements are so well balanced.

Last but certainly not least, the 2020 “Seabiscuit” Pinot Noir from Zotovich Vineyard in Sta. Rita Hills AVA. This wine has a complex bouquet of spiced red berry fruits as well as forest floor, loamy earth, baking spices, and some sea-like brine and iron nuances. Beautiful on the palate, it’s tight, structured, and focused, with medium to full-bodied richness, present tannins, and a great finish. Rated 96 by Jeb Dunnuck and 95 by Antonio Galloni.

Also included with this lot, an elite wine tasting for four at the winery in Santa Maria, California. Enjoy the serene views of the Santa Maria Valley while sipping on exquisite wine with your friends. Mutually agreeable date based on the availability of winemaker or hospitality director; expires March 30, 2024.

Founded in 1985, David Arthur Vineyards is home to nearly 1,000 acres atop Pritchard Hill in St. Helena, California. Pritchard Hill is one of the best growing regions for grapes in Napa Valley. David Arthur wasted no time clearing the land, removing rock and planting his vineyard on Pritchard Hill. He began learning about viticulture and oenology through internships at Chappellet, Joseph Phelps and Schramsberg all the while taking classes at UC Davis. Hard work was the name of the game and David had endless energy to get the job done. The result: electricity, water, a barn, a house, a road and nine-teen acres of pristine grapevines producing the extraordinary fruit that goes into each bottle of highly acclaimed David Arthur wine. The Estate vineyards offer breathtaking views of the Mayacamas Mountain range and the valley floor 1200 feet below. Sitting at over one thousand feet above sea level, these carefully selected vines produce the much celebrated and highly sought-after flagship wine: Elevation 1147. Expressive and complex, much like David Arthur himself, this wine exudes everything loved about the terroir of Pritchard Hill. Always 100% single-varietal Cabernet Sauvignon, Elevation 1147 simultaneously exudes power and finesse, structure and elegance, extraction and grace. Nature and nurture have once again come together to showcase one of Napa Valley’s finest expressions of this noble grape. David’s energy is contagious. The glass is always half-full (or entirely full in many cases) and his vision and work ethic are at the heart of the company.

The 2019 Elevation 1147 Cabernet Sauvignon offers lifted aromas of pine needles, conifer and forest floor. Black fruit, such as blackcurrants and blackberries. Full-bodied with layers of fine tannins that have a dusty or crushed-stone texture. Solid as a rock. A muscular and toned wine. Rated 98 by wine critic James Suckling.

SILENT LOT 172

A four-bottle vertical [750mL] of Lail Vineyards flagship wine (2014-2017) J. Daniel Cuvée Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley. Each vintage is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Robert Parker gave these wines a rating of 95 points, 98 points, 100 points, and 92 points respectively.

Robin Daniel Lail grew up on the famed Inglenook Winery Estate, passed down through family to her grandfather and later to her father, John Daniel, who was the owner and winemaker from 1936-1964 and a highly notable wine industry leader.  In 1995, after years working with other Napa Valley icons, Robin’s dream of creating her own extraordinary wines set flight when she and her daughters, Erin and Shannon, assembled a multifaceted team and launched Lail Vineyards. The family continues its passionate quest to produce the very finest wines from the blend of its ingredients – the land, the seasons, the winemaking team, and the spirit of the generations who led the way.

Of the 2014 vintage: “Cabernet collectors take note!  Here is an incredibly deep and exceptionally structured rendition that more than deserves the much-overused term “classic,” and its marvelous combination of stamina, strength, layering and precise, terrifically sustained varietal fruit is one that is rarely equaled let alone surpassed. As great wines will inevitably do, it reveals a bit more of itself with each sniff and sip, and, even though it shows an unexpected sense of polish and manages to avoid the pronounced tannic harshness of youth, this is one that is some time away from living up to its certain promise. It is not inexpensive, but it makes good on the boast that its price tag poses.” — Connoisseur’s Guide to California Wine, 97 points.

“The 2014 J. Daniel Cuvée Cabernet Sauvignon comes from three sources – the family vineyard called Mole Hill at a 1700-feet elevation on Howell Mountain, the Vine Hill Ranch Vineyard and Heimark Vineyard in Calistoga. A gorgeous 2014, with notes of graphite, mulberry and blackcurrant, this full-bodied, opaque purple wine offers terrific fruit purity, sweet tannin, and a long finish of a good 45+ seconds. It was aged 19 months in 75% new French oak and is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.” —Robert Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate, 95 Points.

“Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 J. Daniel Cuvée bursts forth with gregarious blackcurrant pastilles, black cherries and warm plum notes backed up by notions of spice cake, mocha and licorice. The full-bodied palate is powerfully fruited with opulent exotic spices accenting the black forest cake notions, framed by plush tannins and finishing with epic length. A beautifully buxom showstopper!” —Robert Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate, 98+ Points.

“One-hundred percent Cabernet Sauvignon aged 20 months in 75% new French oak, the 2016 J. Daniel Cuvée is deep garnet-purple in color and offers up exuberant notes of crème de cassis, chocolate-covered cherries, wild blueberries, violets and unsmoked cigars with touches of garrigue, fragrant earth, powdered cinnamon, black olives and tree bark. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is built like a brick house, with a solid frame of firm, grainy tannins and seamless freshness supporting the taut, muscular fruit, finishing long and minerally.” —Robert Parker Jr., The Wine Advocate, 100 points.

“The flagship cuvée, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon J. Daniel Cuvee is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon brought up in 75% new French oak. Rocking levels of cassis, graphite, vanilla, scorched earth, and tobacco all flow to a full-bodied Cabernet that has building tannins, a terrific, deep, layered mid-palate, and a great finish. It’s still tight and backward on the palate, and in need of 4-5 years of bottle age, but it’s a beautiful wine in the making.” —Jeb Dunnuck, 96 points. “Wonderful blackberry and blueberry aromas with tar and ink. Pipe tobacco. Full body and chewy tannins that are lightly dry and toned. Creamy and textured. A beautiful finish. Complete and fine-textured.” —James Suckling, 96 points.

Two bottles [750mL] Hundred Acre Cabernet Sauvignon, Kayli Morgan Vineyard, Napa Valley; one each: 2015 and 2018 – both perfect 100s!

Hundred Acre Winery is the definition of the modern, cult Napa Cabernet Sauvignon style. Since its first vintage in 2000, the winery has produced some of the most sought-after wines in the United States, consistently achieving exceptional ratings from critics – 22 have scored a perfect 100 from Robert Parker (including the two bottles offered here!). The winery is best known for their 100% Cabernet Sauvignon single vineyard estate wines – Ark Vineyard, Few & Far Between Vineyard, and Kayli Morgan Vineyard – and “Wraith,” which is a beautiful blend of the three. All small vineyards with very limited production. All the wines are hand-picked in the vineyards and aged for 24-32 months in new, small French oak barrels.

Initially joined by Philippe Melke, founder Jayson Woodbridge now serves as both owner and winemaker and the wine quality continues to be among the most singular and profound in all of Napa Valley. Jayson is known as a renegade vintner whom Robert Parker has described as “one of the wine world’s most compelling, outspoken, irreverent, bigger-than-life personalities.” The same could easy be said about the spectacular wines he produces!

The Cabernet Sauvignons offered here are sourced from Kayli Morgan Vineyard located just north of Saint Helena at the base of Howell Mountain. The soils are a chocolaty clay; holding moisture to keep the vines cool. As summer progresses, the ground forms micro-cracks, allowing the roots to seek water deeper and deeper into the earth; as they do, they pick up minerals that give Kayli Morgan its distinctive characteristics. Kayli Morgan is a single estate vineyard and 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Critic Lisa Perrotti-Brown of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate awarded both vintages included in this lot perfect scores – 100 points!

The 2015 has a medium garnet-purple color and is a little closed to begin, giving up red and black currants, violets, lilacs, and spice box plus chocolate-covered coffee beans, menthol, tilled soil, and cardamom. The palate is full-bodied, concentrated, and built like a brick house, with loads of floral sparks and a very long, mineral-laced finish. Through the roof! Early in maturity this wine can be enjoyed now or cellared through 2065!

Sporting an opaque garnet-purple color, the 2018 is still fairly early in maturity and needs a fair bit of coaxing to unlock fabulously evocative notions of pure cassis, ripe, juicy black plums, and wild blueberries, plus suggestions of candied violets, cinnamon stick, and fenugreek, with a touch of fallen leaves. The medium to full-bodied palate is packed with poise and sophistication, shimmering with energetic black and blue fruit layers and a perfectly plush texture, finishing with a dazzling display of minerals and floral fireworks. A hands-down, jaw-dropping beauty! Will be best enjoyed 2026-2056.

One magnum [1.5L] Ackerman Family Vineyards 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley; PLUS, Stonehaven Vineyard Tour followed by Pairing Lunch at the Ackerman Heritage House in Napa Valley’s Coombsville AVA.

Wine lovers and culinarians with an appreciation for historical architecture will want to bid on this extraordinary Ackerman Cabernet Sauvignon, which includes a tour of the Ackerman Family estate in Napa Valley, as well as a chef-curated wine and food pairing at the estate’s restored 1888 Queen Anne mansion, known as the Heritage House.

Ackerman Family Vineyards, established in the Coombsville region of Napa Valley in 1994, has been a leader in sustainable farming since 2003, and a California Certified Organic Farm since 2009. Winemaker, Leo Tellez, is the fourth of his generation in Napa Valley, with a lifetime’s experience in the art of making balanced and refined wines. The Coombsville region dates to 1836 in the agricultural industry but did not join the other fifteen American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) of Napa Valley until 2011. The region’s slightly cooler climate, rolling hills, and rich volcanic soil create an ideal combination for vintners to produce a sumptuous Cabernet Sauvignon wine, distinctive to other AVAs. This 2008 Cabernet is rated 89 by Wine Enthusiast and described as “elegantly tannic, [showing] blackberry and currant flavors, touched by smoky oak.” The 2008 stands out among its previous five vintages as more intense and provocative. Its dominant note on the palate is a blend of lively red fruit, with an unassertive but gratifying hint of toasted oak. The tannins are exquisitely rich, and this magnum-sized bottle is ready to be thoroughly enjoyed, though it will age well for another ten years or so. Included with this magnum is a tour of the archetypal Napa Valley estate, complete with a two-canapé, three-course wine and food pairing lunch, prepared by Ackerman’s partnering chef, formally of the 3-Michelin-star restaurant, The French Laundry. This culinary experience will take place at the Heritage House, an event space on the property steeped in history. Built in 1888, the Queen Anne-style Victorian home has been lovingly restored, with both original preserved and period-correct pieces. History lovers will relish the step back in time while enjoying samplings from one of Napa Valley’s most outstanding vineyards. Mutually agreeable date; holidays unavailable. Expires March 4, 2024.

Six bottles [750mL] D.R. Stephens Estate Red Wine, three each: 2019 Moose Valley Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and 2018 COLLATERAL Red Blend.

The D. R. Stephens Estate was established in the St. Helena AVA in 1996. This Napa Valley sub-appellation is known for its quite varied soils and consistently warm, dry weather. The backbone of the estate is its seven-and-a-half acre planting in Moose Valley, where the winery’s original and much-celebrated Cabernet Sauvignon grows. The serious wine aficionado will not want to miss this chance to own and taste this trio, particularly a specially selected vintage of D. R. Stephens Estate Cabernet Sauvignon that has become a new label for the winery, released in January and compellingly named, COLLATERAL.

The 2018 COLLATERAL has been aged in new French oak barrels, the best of which were hand selected for their “purity of fruit and detail” to become this alluring 100% Cabernet Sauvignon blend, which epitomizes the characteristic complex qualities of wines produced in the warm St. Helena region of Napa Valley. Expect this Cabernet to be attractively fruit-forward and luscious. Only made in special vintages.

Three bottles of the 2019 Moose Valley Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon are also included in this lot! Located on Howell Mountain, Moose Valley Vineyard is on a property called the OZ II (in reference the mythical land of OZ). The wine is aged predominately in new French oak. All grapes are harvested by hand, de-stemmed and then re-sorted ensuring that only the ripest berries remain. Although not yet rated past vintages have fetched 90+ points from critics.

This collection of six bottles is presented in a custom metal box! Making this lot an excellent addition to any Wine Enthusiast’s collection.

One bottle [750mL] Château Haut-Brion 2015 Pessac-Léognan (Premier Grand Cru Classé)

Château Haut-Brion is a French wine estate rated a Premier Grand Cru Classé (First Growth), located in Pessac just outside the city of Bordeaux. It differs from the other wines on the list in its geographic location in the north of the wine-growing region of Graves. Of the five first growths, it is the only wine with the Pessac-Léognan appellation and is in some sense the ancestor of a classification that remains the benchmark to this day.

This 2015 vintage received exceedingly high marks from critics including a perfect 100 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and Jeb Dunnuck: “a perfect wine that couldn’t be any better and is certainly at the top of this great vintage.” Very beautiful, deep, garnet-red color. The nose is ripe and concentrated. After swirling in the glass, it becomes more complex with hints of very ripe – but not excessively so – red and black fruit. There are also liquorice nuances and a soupçon of clove. The wine starts out with a very soft mouth feel and immediately shows tremendous volume and depth in every respect, with flavors reminiscent of ripe fruit and cocoa beans. The long aftertaste features mocha and slightly bitter coffee nuances. Barrel ageing will undoubtedly bring out more of this wine’s greatness and confirm its place among the finest vintages of Château Haut-Brion. Additional ratings include 98 – James Suckling, 98 – Wine Spectator, and 97 – Wine Enthusiast.

Twelve bottles [750mL] Martinelli Zinfandel Jackass Vineyard, three bottles 2011 and 2006, two bottles 2005 and 2003, one bottle 2010 and 2004.

From Stephen and Laurie Natelson we offer a generous twelve bottles of the famed Martinelli Jackass Vineyard Zinfandel in six different vintages!

Martinelli Winery is known worldwide for their wine and grapes, which grow in the preeminent Russian River Valley APA of Sonoma County, California. This area of California is cooler and foggier than other appellations, and is planted mostly to Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay. Martinelli’s Jackass Vineyard was planted in the early nineteenth century (not to be confused with Jackass Hill, which is a separate historic vineyard that sits to the north) and is still to this day lovingly tended in the “old world” style, without modern pesticides or irrigation. This collection includes 12 bottles of six different vintages!

Anticipate these Zinfandels to be characteristic of the 135-year-old winery and consistently powerful. The oldest vintage 2003, for example, has a deep garnet, elegant, with succulent notes of fruit and a gorgeously velvety body. Rated 95 – Robert  Parker’s Wine Advocate. The youngest, 2011, was awarded 93 points. You get the idea! This is a collection to truly savor!

Six bottles [750ml] MAHA Paso Robles Wines, two each: 2020 ‘Before Anyone Else,’ 2019 ‘Understory,’ and 2019 ‘Backlit;’ PLUS, Maha Estate Private Tour and Tasting with Al Fresco Lunch for 4

MAHA Estate owners Cris and JoAnn Cherry moved to Paso Robles in 1996 to start a restaurant called Villa Creek on the city’s central square. Five years later, inspired by the wines their neighbors were making, they started to produce their own for the restaurant. In 2003, they purchased a 60-acre property in the hills of Peachy Canyon and built Villa Creek winery, making about 3,000 cases a year from such iconic properties as the James Berry Vineyard. In 2012, the Cherrys started planting Rhône varieties on their property, called the Maha Estate, and the Villa Creek’s MAHA Estate label was born. Today, Cris and JoAnn are known for consistently producing lovely, unique wines filled with character and personality (per Wine Advocate). And that shows in the incredible six bottles the winning bidder gets to take home!

The 2020 ‘Before Anyone Else’ is 100% Clairette. Fermented and aged in a portion of new oak, the wine has pretty aromas of white peach, roasted almonds, and flint with touches of lemon and crème fraîche. The medium-bodied palate is satiny and expansive with savory fruit, fresh acidity, and a long, brioche-laced finish. Rated 95 – Wine Advocate.

The 2019 ‘Understory’ is a Grenache-based blend matured for 19 months in barrel. Pale ruby-purple, it offers very pretty blueberry compote and wild berry preserves plus nuances of licorice, forest floor, and blood orange. The palate is bright and delicate, with transparent fruits, a flourish of spicy accents, and a long, mineral-tinged finish. Rated 96 – Wine Advocate.

The 2019 ‘Backlit’ is a blend of 46% Petite Sirah, 28% Mourvèdre, and 26% Carignan. Medium ruby-purple, it opens with tarry touches that give way to spicy blackberry fruit and notes of eucalyptus, earth, charcuterie, and coffee beans, and the full-bodied palate has rounded tannins and a long, fragrant finish. Rated 95 – Wine Advocate.

Join Cris and JoAnn Cherry for a tour of their MAHA Estate, a Demeter-certified Biodynamic vineyard and farm in the western hills of Paso Robles. See firsthand how this method of holistic farming benefits the soils, vines, and everything around them. Walk into the cellar and experience how the vineyard practices translate into the wines with a barrel tasting. The tasting room is connected to the winery and surrounded by Maha’s vines. Expect large white dogs to greet you at the gate and escort you to the patio, which is lined with tall bunch grass and a manzanita shrub. With a large skull on the exterior wall, and often with Cris sporting a wrinkled, wide-brimmed hat as he entertains visitors, the vibe is modern cowboy chic. Inside, a record player awaits your vinyl selection, which ranges from Bob Marley to the Police to Art Blakey, and there’s the requisite jackalope hanging from the wooden walls. Through a window you can see dozens of library wines as well as a hock of jamon hanging from the ceiling. The tasting flight features four regular wines — typically one white, such as the ‘Roussanne’ or ‘Fiano,’ and three reds. It could be the Syrah-led blends ‘Avenger’ and ‘High Road,’ or the single-vineyard Syrah from Bassetti Vineyard near Cambria, or Cabernet Sauvignon from the relatively old vines of Carver Vineyard. After your tasting adjourn to the patio for a wood-fired lunch with foods grown and raised on the property.

Mutually agreeable date. Expires March 4, 2024.

A day in Wine Country for four tasting the award-winning wines of legendary, cult winemaker, Thomas Rivers Brown! Includes private tastings at some of the most prestigious wine brands in Thomas Rivers Brown’s repertoire: Rivers Marie and Outpost; PLUS, private tasting and chef’s lunch at Post Parade Wines.

Thomas Rivers Brown is one of Napa and Sonoma’s most accomplished winemakers having distinguished himself at Schrader, Outpost and, with his own label, Rivers Marie. Hailing from just outside Sumter, South Carolina, Thomas Rivers Brown was not formally trained in winemaking but rather gained interest in it from exposure to European wines during his undergraduate years. Nearly 25 years after this early introduction to the great wines of the world, Thomas has produced over 30 perfect 100-point wines for the likes of Maybach, Schrader, Outpost, Revana, and Round Pond among others. While developing his winemaking career in the early 2000s, Thomas and his wife Genevieve Marie Welsh started Rivers-Marie centered around Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast. The inaugural 2002 vintage was sourced from the critically acclaimed Summa Vineyard in Occidental. Over the years the portfolio has grown to include Cabernet Sauvignon from prime Napa Valley vineyard sites in addition to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the rugged hills of the Sonoma Coast. You and three guests will enjoy a private tasting at River’s Marie, set just moments from downtown Calistoga. The intimate glass-enclosed tasting room was built to highlight the single-vineyard bottlings of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon that Rivers-Marie began crafting since 2002.

Right next door you and your guests will enjoy a private tasting and chef’s lunch at Post Parade Wines. Post Parade founder, Brook Smith, developed his love of Napa Cabernet thanks to Master Sommelier, Kevin Vogt, and vineyard owners, Paul and Suzie Frank. A partner in several bourbon ventures in Kentucky, Smith saw creating a Napa Cabernet Sauvignon as closing the circle in his luxury beverage investments. In 2010, Brook partnered with esteemed winemaker, Thomas Rivers Brown, and Frank Dotzler (founder of Outpost, owner at Mending Wall) to produce Post Parade Wines. Sourcing from some of the most coveted vineyards in the Napa Valley, Post Parade focuses on site-specific Cabernet Sauvignons and Cabernet Franc. Named after the captivating moment when thoroughbred horses walk onto the racetrack, minutes before stepping into the starting gate, Post Parade is a culmination of hard work, planning and luck. Thomas, Frank, and Brook believe this transcendent moment translates into their shared winemaking and viticultural vision. The lunch will be at Post Parade Wines historic home in the heart of the Napa Valley in St. Helena. Tasting will focus on Post Parade’s small-lot wines. From the comfort of the salon, learn how the vineyard partnerships coupled with Thomas’ winemaking philosophy contribute to producing Post Parade’s award-winning wines.

Last but certainly not least, a private tasting at Outpost, who produces some of the finest wine in Napa Valley. Outpost was established in 1998 with the vision of producing wines that are a living, breathing embodiment of this magical place. Truly one of the world’s great Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel growing regions, the unique terroir of the Outpost vineyards – the hard, rocky red soil, high altitude, gentle cooling breezes and sunny western exposure – produces fruit of incredible intensity and richness, with a distinctive spice you simply cannot find anywhere else.  Capturing the essence of the land’s rugged terrain, Outpost creates world-class 100% varietal bottlings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Grenache from our own hand-cultivated, organically farmed estate vineyard. Nestled in a rural, peaceful setting, they invite you to join them for an intimate experience on the 20-acre vineyard estate located 2,200 feet above the valley floor. What are you waiting for? Private wine dinner for 10 with wine pairings featuring Ridge and Saldo red wines and Roero Italian white wines paired with a four-course dinner by Executive Chef Chris Saffles at The Club at Gettysvue

Situated in the shadows of the Great Smoky Mountains, The Club at Gettysvue redefines the private club experience. The exquisite English-style clubhouse is a welcoming focal point for member dining, hospitality, and socializing. Featuring spectacular views of the golf course and stately decor, the clubhouse features three private dining rooms. Enjoy a private wine dinner for 10 with wine pairings featuring Ridge and Saldo red wines and Roero Italian white wines. Trust us, these wine pairings will be spectacular!

Ridge is considered by many to be among the best wine producers in the world, and certainly among the most, if not the most famous, from California, especially for their Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon and an incredible lineup of single-vineyard Zinfandels. A champion for single-vineyard winemaking, Ridge produces wine from 22 vineyards including Lytton Springs, Geyserville, East Bench, and Ponzo, with consistent high acclaim from critics.

Saldo, produced by the Prisoner Wine Company, will also be poured. Saldo produces Zinfandel and a Red Blend showcasing some of Northern California’s most renowned vineyards and regions, including Dry Creek, Sierra Foothills, Sonoma Valley, The Talmage Bench in Mendocino, Lodi, and the Moon Mountain District of Sonoma County. The word “Saldo” is of Latin origin often referring to “from here and there” or in this case, representing the winery’s sourcing of grapes from regions “here and there” across Northern California. Saldo is the Prisoner’s eponymous first wine inspired by the drinkable “mixed blacks” made by the Italian immigrants who originally settled in Napa Valley.

Roero is a small DOCG wine district in the hills of Piedmont, Italy. The region covers 19 municipalities, with 147 producers and 86 growers. The designation’s name is entrenched in local history; its name comes from the Roero family of bankers and traders, who controlled this area for several centuries during the Middle Ages. They built the castles and towers that still stand on top of the hills. Nowadays, there are twenty Roero family lines. Roero is known particularly for its refreshing white wines made from Arneis. Arneis is a pear-perfumed indigenous variety that thrives in Roero territory. This grape produces exuberantly fragrant white wines. Thanks to Arneis, Roero is one of Italy’s rising viticultural regions.

The wine dinner will be paired with a four-course dinner by Executive Chef Chris Saffles. Saffles worked at The Southern Kitchen and Bar and Flemings Prime Steakhouse before becoming the Executive Chef at Gettysvue Country Club and will prepare perfect menu pairings that will certainly exceed your expectations!

Five-year magnum [1.5L] vertical (2013-2017) of Horsepower Vineyards Syrah, The Tribe Vineyard, Walla Walla Valley

Located in the Stones of the Walla Walla Valley, Horsepower Vineyards is about tradition and history—and making history. Vigneron Christophe Baron, founder of both Cayuse Vineyards and Horsepower Vineyards, pioneered biodynamic farming in Washington’s Walla Walla Valley in 2002. The oldest son of the centuries-old Champagne house Baron Albert, Christophe’s family has worked their land in the Marne Valley of France since 1677.  Horsepower is farmed entirely without the use of herbicides, synthetic fertilizers, chemical insecticides, or fungicides, using only draft horses. Today, five horses cultivate tightly spaced, 19th century-style vineyards that only they can navigate, using specialized farming equipment created by a blacksmith in Burgundy, France.

These extremely allocated wines, with multi-year wait lists to acquire, are consistently adored by the critics.  Each vintage in this lot was met with universal praise – scoring 95 points or higher. The 2017 vintage was rated a 96 by both James Suckling and Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: with a firm, tight nose of rustic dark red fruit and soft aromas of worn leather, black spice and dust-covered violets. Medium to full-bodied, the wine is still tight in its youth, but it remains approachable and food-friendly now. The 2016 vintage was rated 96 by James Suckling and 95 by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: has impressive, silky black fruit with interwoven spices and subtle, meaty nuances. The intensity of fruit is dialed-up in this wine. The 2015 vintage scored 98 points by both Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and critic James Suckling – showed beautifully executed freshness and complexity with charcuterie, graphite, abundant spice and a dusting of pepper, bright berry fruits, and an enchanting floral edge.  The 2014, rated 96 points by Wine Advocate and 94 points by James Suckling – with beautiful notes of violets, rose petal, pepper and earth, full-bodied beauty with fine tannin, juicy acidity and a great finish. The 2013 was rated 96 by Robert Parker and 95 by Wine Spectator – a blockbuster effort that is up there with the crème de la crème of the vintage. Concentrated, full-bodied, sexy and layered on the palate, it has to-die-for notes of black cherries, currants, olives, steak tartare.  Full-bodied, layered, and fabulously concentrated, with considerable back-end structure, this awesome effort will drink well for over 15 years.

These stunning, highly-rated Syrahs will continue to gain complexity over the years.  Do not miss a chance to add this elusive, large-format vertical to your collection!

Six bottles [750mL] FUTO 2012 OV|SL 2012 Red Blend

Futo Wines began in 2002 when Tom and Kyle Futo purchased Oakford Vineyards, a 40-acre property with 7 acres of vineyard established in the 80’s. Expanding in 2004 to an adjoining 117-acre property, of which 6 acres were planted to vineyard under the direction of David Abreu and winemaker Mark Aubert, and in 2011 with the addition of a property in the eastern hills of Stags Leap District. The quality of FUTO wines is truly world-class and consistently receives high ratings by critics. Four wines are produced from the winery’s estate properties in Oakville and Stags Leap and this lot features OV | SL, a spectacular showcase of the synergy of both.

At its core are co-fermentations of fruit from these hillsides that are believed to be perfect foils for one another. Oakville is imposing and impressive with its broad-shouldered stature, while Stags Leap is a timeless beauty with classic proportions. This wine is proof that 1+1 can equal 3. The 2012 OV starts floral with chiseled red fruits turning darker with smoky minerals and a savory perfume. Energetic on the palate, flavors are focused on black raspberries and cherries, loamy soil, herbs and tannin that melts into a long, suave finish. Elegant but authoritative, this wine has it all. 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 8% Petit Verdot. Only 880 cases bottled. Two bottles [750mL] Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve, one each: 13 year (95.6 proof) and 23 Year (95.6 proof)

The definition of “always fine bourbon,” Pappy Van Winkle is the quintessential Bourbon choice for the whiskey connoisseur. As one of the most sought-after bourbon brands, their bottles of Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey are nearly impossible to find.

Van Winkle’s long list of accolades includes Gold and Double Gold Medals from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, Gold Medal and Best in Class from International Wine & Spirits Competition, and Extraordinary-Ultimate Recommendation from the Ultimate Spirits Challenge. But for most, their reputation speaks for itself.

The first bottle in this lot is their 13 year Family Reserve Rye Whiskey. Until recently, most rye whiskeys were 4 years old or younger. This 13-year rye is one of the oldest rye whiskeys available today. The maturity it has achieved while aging is quite obvious as you take the first sip. Rye whiskey lovers who try this bottling will never look back at the younger versions again. Per Paul Pacult of Spirit Journal, one of the spirit industry’s foremost authorities, “the 13 year breaks the mold, as it is one of the oldest rye whiskeys available today. The maturity it has achieved while aging is quite obvious when you take the first sip. It’s a truly unique and rewarding rye whiskey experience.” Rated 95 by Wine Enthusiast, this whiskey offers a soft nose of chestnuts, spice, vanilla and fruit; and features flavors of cocoa, vanilla, spice, and white pepper. A long, warm and complex finish with caramel and spice combined with dry oak; a deep, tawny, copper color. Paul Pacult’s Spirit Journal Rating – 5 Stars. Rated 95 by the Beverage Tasting Institute.

The 23 year is a very rare, limited-edition bourbon takes generations of distilling know-how to produce. Only the most careful and expensive distilling method can be used to create a whiskey as special as this one. Each barrel ages for 23 years and is carefully selected from the heart of the warehouse for an added three years of aging. Rated 95 by Whisky Advocate, this whiskey is a deep amber red offering various hints of caramel, ripe apples, cherries, oak wood and tobacco with a hint of chocolate. This bourbon finishes with a long-lasting and pleasant taste. Starts with a lot of wood flavors but leads to a nice sweet caramel finish. Undoubtedly, this whiskey is best enjoyed neat. Finding not one, but two bottles of Pappy Van Winkle is absolutely astounding.

“Our American farmhouse cuisine is rooted in the Hall family tradition of showcasing fruits and vegetables fresh from our farm, grass-fed beef and lamb from our ranch, olive oil from our grove, and wines from our vineyards. At our restaurant, our connection to rugged mountain terrain, mineral-rich riverbed bench land, and the cool coastal air is tangible through the dishes and ambiance carefully curated by the Halls and our artisans. The talents of chefs, farmers, cattle ranchers, winemakers, and restaurant managers create a Napa Valley experience like no other”.— Chris Hall

Many of you will remember the Hall family, Long Meadow Ranch owners, and their Farmstead Restaurant’s chef, Stephen Barber, being our guests of honor in 2015. Their estate-produced wines were perfectly paired with each course of Barber’s creations. This was our one and only year of having one estate that grew all the grapes for the wine and farmed all the food that was placed on the table at L’Amour du Vin.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley is a blend of the best that Napa Valley mountain and valley floor estate Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards can offer.  The 2018 invites with a nose of fresh cherry, blackberry, raspberry leaf, and a hint of bourbon vanilla. More savory but light notes of graphite, anise, and nutmeg are found on the palate bright with mountain fruit acidity and velvety long smooth tannins.
