Abstract
The traces of glaciations have been recorded by geologists for more than a hundred years and depicted on maps. The maps are only reproducible if the scale and projection are specified. Today, the results of remote sensing create new possibilities to study the surface shape of the Earth down to the smallest detail. With the help of Geographic Information Systems, an international team of geoscientists has succeeded in mapping the extent of ice-age glaciers worldwide.
