December 24: Sbiten (Russian Mulled Rum)
Each and every day this month I’ve shared one cocktail/adult beverage/hey-let’s-just-do-shots-cus-that’s-easier recipe.
It’s the 25 Days of Drinks, and there’s something for everyone at your Nana’s house.
Today’s drink: Sbiten (Russian Mulled Rum)
Sbiten is a Russian mulled cocktail that’s based on a mixture of jam, honey, and winter spices. You might not have all the ingredients below, but I have faith that your final concoction will be most spectacular.
You will need… (Psst. If the ginger, clove, etc. are too much, just make the drink with what you have. It’ll be just tasty.)
1 cup of water
½ cup of spiced rum (plus one shot, optional)
2 tsp, jam of choice
1 tsp honey
½ tsp ground ginger
1 tsp ground clove
½ tsp ground cinnamon
½ tsp ground nutmeg
Glass: Mug
Instructions
1. Heat the water and ½ cup rum over medium heat in a small pot. When the mixture is just boiling add the jam and honey and simmer for 5 minutes.
2. Add the rest of the spices, and stir to mix. Strain into mugs and add a dash of rum to each, if desired, for a stiffer drink.
