Farmington Obituary: Joseph Voves, 96

Joseph A. Voves, 96, of Farmington, beloved husband of Myra (Marchak) Voves, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 12, 2018.

Born on March 4, 1922, in Mnetes, Czechoslovakia to the late Antonin and Helena (Horcova) Voves, Joe was raised in a small village just outside of Prague. He came to the United States in 1959 and began working as the maitre d’ at the Tappan Hill Restaurant in Tarrytown, NY where he met Myra.

Joe and his partners started Metric & Multistandard Components, Corp. in 1961. He was an active Rotarian; club president twice, Past District Governor and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends above all else. Joe moved to Connecticut in 2010 after living in Chappaqua, NY, for more than three decades.

He is survived by his wife, Myra, of 55 years, his children; Joseph J. Voves and his wife Lucie of Brookfield, Carolyn Ray and her husband Matthew of Farmington, Elizabeth Martin and her husband Tim of Stamford and Ronald A. Voves of Seattle, WA, his grandchildren; Joseph Andrew Voves, Jordan Voves, Lindsay Voves, Jonathan Voves, Max Ray, Katie Ray, Kelly Ray, Brittany Martin, Dylan Martin, Ryan Voves, Tony Voves, Tom Voves and his wife Zdenka Vovsova; and great grandchildren Anna Vovsova and Tomas Voves. He was predeceased by his brothers; Tony Voves and George Voves and his son George Voves.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 5, 2019 from 10-11AM at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon. A memorial service will begin at 11AM at Carmon’s.
