A Kappa Coupé, together the SW the last real, beautiful Lancia? The Lancia K, or Lancia Kappa, got a coupe variant in 1997. This marked the Lancia Coupé's comeback after 13 years of absence. The Beta and Gamma Coupé went out of production in 1984.
As they describe it on Autoblog, the Kappa Coupé is remarkably inconspicuous. The longer you look, the more details deviate from the regular Kappa and other coupés. Italian elegance as they no longer build it, a future classic. Modest and yet special. Just try to find one. This car is original Dutch, has driven 236,000 km and has always been neatly maintained.
It is the 2.4, which has a 175 hp five-cylinder under the hood with the characteristic five-cylinder sound. Looking stylish and understated. This car is finished in Verde Plutone Metallic, with a cream-white interior. Sorry, a Poltrona Frau Kaleidos leather interior.
Lancia was known as the luxury brand in Fiat's stable and this Kappa Coupé lives up to that. The luxurious electrically adjustable seats are comfortable and the cabin also remains quiet at higher speeds. Ideal for a long drive to the Italian lakes, where you can immediately make good use of the generously sized trunk. Even fishing rods or long slats can go along by folding down the center console in the rear seat and opening the hatch to the trunk.
The car was originally delivered in the Netherlands and has had three owners since 1998. The last owner has owned the Kappa for more than 6 years. That motoring life is enjoyable with a Kappa Coupe is clear from the mileage, an average of 10,000 km per year. But as long as such a car is properly maintained, there is nothing to worry about.
Apart from the front, the Kappa Coupé is quite different from the sedan. For example, the wheelbase is shorter by 120 mm and the car has frameless doors. The rear is also different, although you can recognize a different Lancia in it, as the rear lights come from the Delta.
The Coupé was also produced in a different factory from the sedan. The construction was contracted out to the Italian coach builder Maggiora. In the past, the Lancia Aurelia B20 and the Flaminia Touring were also produced there. Many have not been built by Maggiora: the total production is only 3,263 units. And very few of them will be left in this state.
Our opinion
Nice and quirky. The larger Lancias have always been, but if they also looked a bit in between ... A shortwheelbase Kappa, because the coupe was a lot shorter than the sedan. I think it's really cool, but don't know if I'll ever buy one. The Kappa Coupé deserves that by the way. That a nice enthusiast buys it. Not just to look at it, but to go down to the Italian lakes in a sunny autumn.
