SEEDS OF OPIUM POPPY, WHITE POPPY - PAPAVER SOMNIFERUM

The one known as Opium Poppy or White Poppy, has been cultivated for thousands of years as its fruits and sap contain alkaloids, used to make opium and heroin derivatives. Widely used in pharmacology for morphine, codeia and analgesics that relieve pain.

The seeds also have culinary use, especially in desserts, and as feed for some birds. The oil obtained from these seeds has properties used in the manufacture of soaps, fuels or the paint industry.

Herbaceous covered with some hair between 15-70cm tall. Oval, divided and toothed dark green leaves. Solitary white, pink, lilac or red flowers with four petals, many stamens and a yellow center. Capsule-shaped fruit containing numerous seeds.

The seeds are collected in wild North of Spain.
