The original Kinetic Luna was first introduced in the country in 1972. It was a moped that features a 50 cc engine and was a licensed copy of the Piaggio Ciao. At the time, it was a well known product around the country through creative jingles such as the ‘Chal Meri Luna’ advertisement. After a 28 year production run, Kinetic Engineering had stopped the production of the Luna in early 2000.
Now the company is all set to bring the moped back as an EV. It will be launched by KEL’s sister company Kinetic Green Energy & Power Solutions Ltd. KERL has set up a brand new line of over 30 welding machines in an exclusive shop within the plant. All the assemblies will be fully finished and painted in the Ahmednagar unit. To meet the requirements, KEL has also invested over Rs 3 crores in upgrading its paint shop and press & fabrication shops.

However, KEL has not yet disclosed any details on the design and features that the E-Luna will sport. Details relating to battery capacity, range and performance are also being awaited as of now.
Speaking on the development, Ajinkya Firodia, MD, Kinetic Engineering Limited, said “At its peak Luna was selling over 2,000 units per day. I am sure it will do very well in its new avatar. We expect this business to add over Rs 30 crores annually over the next 2 to 3 years as the volumes of the E-Luna increase. This will also help KEL to boost its presence in the EV segment."
