Lotus 72D, Emerson Fittipaldi 1972 British GP winner, Pocher, 1/8
Hi, folks..... this is why I've been a bit absent since Christmas. It's a challenging kit, with the instructions leaving a lot to be desired (though they have improved through four revisions since the kit was released at Christmas), and the engineering does not major on buildability. It's a half-way house between model engineering and kit assembly. You don't have to make the parts, but boy do you have to make them fit, and figure out what order you need to do it in. I don't think `i've ever built a model that has been harder work, though I think the result is worth it. Its probably my favorite Formula One car, in hands down the best racing livery there has ever been (though I will admit Gulf Orange and Blue and Martini stripes are strong competition. The build is documented at length on Britmodeller with contributions from other builders tackling the same beast; doing the updates on one site was hard enough, so I hope you'll forgive me not posting in real time here. Definitely a brave call by Hornby (though those who've been watching the series on Yesterday will be aware that the JPS Lotus was the best selling Corgi racing car, and a fair second to the Bond DB5 as an all-time best-seller).
Now to build something smaller, and simpler...
best,
M.

Sounds like a tough build, Matt, but what a result, that looks spectacular and I have to agree, the JPS livery is one of the finest ever applied to a racing car.

I've followed your progress on BM and initially, it seemed what it professes to be, a self-assembly kit, but it quickly became apparent it was far from that. A lot of work has gone into working out how to build this kit and it's been a great collaboration between many modellers. The fact it has been more involved than initially thought probably means you've gotten your money's worth out of it.

Gorgeous looking F1 car model especially in the JPS livery. In 1/8th scale makes for a centrepiece model.
The typical Matt Bacon magic has worked well on this one!
Hope to see this one at one of the shows!
What next from the revitalised Pocher name by Hornby? Will it be another F1, Motor Bike, Modern Supercar or maybe go back to Pocher's roots with a Classic or something? Who knows what will appear next!
