You can see the old Vaughn Street Ballpark and the old Marshall Ice Arena an in this photo.
What is the big white square bldg. in the middle?
The big building is Montgomery Ward’s. The sign letters are on the far side of the top of the building, looking from the back. I remember going there every fall to get new winter coats!
With the 1905 Lewis and Clark Forestry building hunkering down in the trees to the right of ‘Monkey Ward’s’
Awesome. This is why I love Vintage Portland!
Chapman School is that building all by itself on the right. The line of houses to the right of Chapman is NW Pettygrove St. Raleigh St borders the left side. A block over is Savier St. If you follow that about halfway to the river, you can see the cupola of St Patrick’s Church at 19th and Savier. The Lovejoy Ramp and the Meier and Frank warehouse are to the right of that. That’s where I-405 now comes up out of the ground.
If you look close you can see some swifts hovering around the chimney of Chapman.

Now THAT is the Portland I would love to live in.
