(WXIA) -- Severe storms and tornadoes rolled through parts of northern California Wednesday in areas where such severe weather is rarely seen.
Tornado warnings were issued for areas around Sacramento beginning in the mid-afternoon and running into the early evening hours.
Television images showed dark, threatening clouds and areas of severe weather. Hail up to more than an inch in size fell across that area, which led many people seeking shelter.
According to our Sacramento sister stations KXTV and KCRA, motorists, struck by the looks of the clouds, pulled over to take pictures. Cloud formations more commonly seen in the plains and eastern states were moving across the area.
No injuries were reported.
