Owners love their X-Trails, reporting few complaints
Information on reliability is limited for this machine, since the model was never sold in the American market, which is about ten times the size of ours. Remember that X-Trail was on sale for years before we got hold of it- so one could safely bet that Nissan's worked out many of its bugs.

Searches yield no major issues reported by owners- many of whom have taken to online forums and shared their experiences. In general, owners are of the 'happy and proud' variety.

Many appreciate the value-for-dollar presented by the Bonavista edition of the X-Trail, which included some add-on features and special badging to create a limited edition package. A used X-Trail Bonavista is a good pick in a second-hand crossover that offers plenty of bang for the buck in the features department.

Owners also seem to like the styling, flexibility and ruggedness of their machines. Many report achieving respectable mileage, though most don't achieve the consumption figures advertised by Nissan.

Another common thread between many X-Trail owners is their appreciation of the machine's overall driving comfort and ability to tackle day to day jobs with ease. No major interior complaints seem common, albeit a few reports of squeaks and rattles.

When considering a used X-Trail, be sure to check for a fairly common rust problem on the body, dealing with the paint just above the rear wheels on either side. Check for signs of bubbling or peeling, as well as excessive corrosion from underneath by looking up into the wheel well. Several owners in online forums have reported this problem, which will eventually cause rust to spread and ruin the vehicle's appearance. You may also find rust around door handles or the rear gate, especially around its handle. Given the likelihood of your X-Trail being operated in corrosion-enhancing winter conditions, oil-spraying, is probably a good idea.

No recall campaign's were noted- and though the online owners community has given no real cause for alarm, typical used SUV / crossover rules should be followed during an inspection and test drive. Note the condition of the vehicles paint and interior, especially around high traffic areas like the loading-deck of the cargo hold, and the drivers side seat.
