What’s New?
A new Black Diamond edition will be part of every 2013 Avalanche sold. This Edition is to commemorate the last year of production for the Avalanche. Individual Black Diamond badging will be featured on the side sails of the Avalanche. Avalanche will continue to be available in LS, LT and LTZ trim levels. Later in the year an new color, Fairway Metallic will be available. Dealers will now be able to install seat heaters as a set heater kit is now a dealer installed option. Powertrain grade braking works in normal mode.

Towing
Avalanche cannot be used to tow fifth-wheel or goose neck trailers. Conventional trailer towing capacity is 3,674 kg (8,100 lb.). A class IV hitch with wiring is part of the towing package. Built in electronic trailer brake control and sway control are also part of the trailering package. Tow/haul mode control is on the steering column mounted gear selector.

Interior
As the first volume produced and innovative crew cab truck, the Avalanche sports features such as the mid-gate that allows the bed to become part of the interior when hauling wood. Conversely, if you need interior storage space, the reverse is true as well. The only drawback to this system is the upright non-adjustable seat back of the rear seat.

Avalanche features items such as a leather wrapped and heated steering wheel on the LTZ trim level. Rear seat entertainment systems complete with A/V jacks, remote video plug ins and two wireless headphone sets. Sirius Satellite radio is standard on all models. Power adjustable pedals are standard on all models as is a remote starter.

Powertrain

All Avalanches use a 5.3 litre V8 although the 4X4 version utilizes an aluminum block. This engine utilizes GM’s active fuel management system which includes variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation. The engine is also E85 compatible. The only transmission available is a six-speed electronically controlled automatic. A single speed transfer case is standard on LS and LT models. A two-speed transfer case is standard on LTZ and optional on LS and LT. a locking differential is standard on LT and LTZ and available on LS models.

In Short

This distinctive four-door truck is a victim of its own success. It is being discontinued because the ideas it brought to the market place have become main stream and can be found in every truck.

2013 Cadillac Escalade
Escalade is not offered by Cadillac for 2013. Any units that are on dealer lots are carryover from 2012.
