The C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid uses Ford's powersplit technology to significantly improve fuel economy over similarly sized vehicles using conventional powertrains. The C-Max Energi is available in two trims; SE and Titanium. It uses a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder gas engine combined with a lithium-ion battery-driven electric motor. This powersplit architecture has the flexibility to power the wheels with the electric motor and gas engine together, or separately.
