Audi’s upcoming RS3 will be powered by a 2.5-liter TFSI five-cylinder engine.

Quattro division director Stephan Reil confirmed the powerplant plan to Top Gear without saying how much power the engine will make in that application. The magazine speculates that it will make at least 360 hp, which would be 20 better than the old RS3.

Initial models will be sold with five doors, but the report claims that Audi is also weighing the possibility of offering a sedan model ala the A3 clubsport quattro concept pictured here. If that really is on the executive table, it could bode well for the chances of a new Audi RS car reaching U.S. showrooms because the four-door is aimed primarily at this market.

Production is expected to begin early next year, possibly following an introduction at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.
