I think the low price is due to the fact that there may be critters living in the insulation of the range and to compensate you for removing them.

But at least the seller did wipe it off before photographing it.

The coppertone GE appears to a match to the turquoise one that sold last week on the west coast.  A nice range with self-cleaning oven.

But I like that Magic Chef.  Love the simplicity.

Stoves may be a-turnin' up, but they sure as shootin' ain't a-turnin' up in Iowa.

I have haunted my sources for months, and have seen nothing I'd spit on. I'm looking for a TOL GE 30-incher in White with P*7 self-cleaning, preferably a late '60s or early '70s model.

Hopefully someday.

one would think, might be prime for older appliances. Dear Daughter lived in Iowa City for a spell (2006-9) when her ex-husband was in UI law school; he has family in Ames and in Denver near Waterloo, and he lives there to this day. Our impression was of a state with extremely nice folks, and many older people who'd likely be prone to holding on to their appliances for a long time! The neighbors we met in IC tended to have 60s-80s appliances...we notice that kind of stuff!

In Iowa!

Sandy - here's one! Probably not quite what you're looking for. A bit older, not TOL and manual clean, but: white, 30", GE, with the push buttons, decent and priced fair. But I also know how it is when you want, what you want. It's out there. We'll keep looking.

The 30-incher you're showing is the same one offered here by Ben (swestoyz) a few weeks ago. Nice range - damn nice range - but no P*7, which is a must. Also, a TOL range from a slightly later time frame will have two large burners and two small ones, instead of three small and one large. I have that arrangement now, and it's no good for me - you can't have a large pot of something and a large skillet going at the same time.

But thanks!

P.S.: The 30-inch version of that 40-inch Coppertone GE in the first photo would be perfect, in White.

@ Sandy

Sorry, I missed the previous posting. Can't keep up with them all, but I agree, a very good stove. And yes, the 30" version of the Coppertone 40" in White will be great! Will keep my eyes open if I see one and let you know.

Thanks for keeping your eyes open!

My absolute all-time dream 30-incher would be the GE J757, an early-'70s model. It was the TOL, and it was based on the architecture of the Americana - it looked like an Americana with the upper story sawed off.

Here's a photo. Now think White. ;)

This range has absolutely every one of my desired features:

1) P*7 self-cleaning
2) That two large/two small burner configuration
3) A heavily recessed cooktop that won't allow spills or boilovers to run down the sides of the range, between the cabinets and the range
4) A total absence of Ye Olde Fayke Woode Graine
5) A lighted backguard
6) A real oven window, not black glass
7) An analog clock/timer capable of being rebuilt without too much trouble, not a digital unit
8) A decent amount of bright metal trim

Also note that - the Harvest Gold notwithstanding - this range's styling is timeless.

Sandy - That's a fantastic stove! Even in Harvest Gold, that stove looks great. Thanks for sharing. Don't think I'd seen that particular model before.

"Ye Olde Fayke Woode Graine" - you're too funny!

is about the ultimate in features and styling for 30 inchers of the era... I even like the Harvest! It loks to bein beautiful shape.
My '77 Frigidaire has pretty much the same features right down to the recessed top and raised sides with stainless trim strips, but has the flip-number digital clock... so very 70s! It also has the wide RadianTube burners which work really well imho. And ElectriClean, without which one cannot live.

Wandered through the SA again and the range was sold, looks like they got $125 for it.  Frankly, I'm surprised.  Hope it goes to a good home, I bet some little old lady too pride in it all these years and her kids donated it.

John that O&M is worth every penny of $1100 to someone who wants to cook on gas [ and smell it and clean it ] LOL.

Sandy that GE range you are looking for is a beautiful range, I am looking for the same one with the microwave oven as part of the main oven, any color. They are easy to spot as there is NO window in the oven door and no window directly above the oven door either as the earlier versions of this range had before the SC oven feature was available. I will let you know if I find the one you are seeking, John.

John:

Are you looking for the J896 or the J856? The J896 was a double-decker range like the Americana, but with a P*7 Versatronic oven as the lower oven and a conventional oven above. The J856 was a 30-inch slide-in model like the J757, with a Versatronic P*7 oven replacing the regular P*7 oven found in the J757.

Let me know which one you're looking for, and I'll keep an eye out for you. Because trust me, the day I spot what I think is my dream range, I will gasp. I will shriek.

And it will be the range you're looking for, not the one I'm looking for.

Sandy

To try to answer the question

Could it be that the economy is improving for some people? Horrors for those who have done everything within their powers to stifle improvement. Going by the nice older ranges, they were probably in nice kitchens in nice houses and now the kitchens are being remodeled.
