The 2018 Dodge Challenger is available in sixteen trims, and all but one come standard with rear-wheel drive. The Dodge Challenger GT AWD is equipped with all-wheel drive. Some of the Challenger trims are brand new to the 2018 model year, such as the Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody and the SRT Demon. Others are resurrection of old models, like the Challenger T/A series. From low-tier to high-tier, the trim lineup is as follows – SXT, SXT Plus, R/T, R/T Plus, R/T Shaker, T/A, R/T Scat Pack, R/T Plus Shaker, T/A Plus, 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker, T/A 392, SRT 392, SRT Hellcat, SRT Hellcat Widebody, and the SRT Demon.

Transmission

Before we get into the list of engines, it’s important to point out that there are only two transmissions available to the 2018 Dodge Challenger lineup. All Challenger models, aside from the SRT Demon, come standard with a 6-speed manual TREMEC transmission, but buyers can upgrade each model with an 8-speed TorqueFlite transmission instead. The 8-speed TorqueFlite transmission is standard on the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.

Engine Types

There are a total of five engines available on the Dodge Challenger lineup, and each has a set of trims that it powers. Under the hood of the Challenger SXT, SXT Plus, and GT AWD trims is a 305-horsepower 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine. The next step up is the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine**, available with the Challenger R/T, Challenger R/T Plus, Challenger R/T Shaker, Challenger T/A, Challenger R/T Plus Shaker, and Challenger T/A Plus, able to generate 375 horsepower. Past these two engines are three SRT engines designed for increased power.

The first of the SRT engine lineup is a 6.4-liter V8 SRT HEMI engine**, able to produce 485 horsepower, and available on the Challenger R/T Scat Pack, Challenger 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker, Challenger T/A 392, and Challenger SRT 392 trims. Following this is the mighty SRT Hellcat engine, a supercharged 6.2L V8 SRT Hellcat HEMI that can generate up to 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. Lastly is the most powerful of the lineup, a supercharged 6.2L HEMI V8 SRT Demon engine capable of producing 840 horsepower and 770 lb-ft of torque†.

Exterior Features

When it comes to the exterior and the interior, many of the Dodge Challenger trims have a selection of standard and optional features. These may have to do with Dodge heritage and style, such as racing stripes, or decals and logos that give a nod to the history of its respective trim. Depending on the trim, drivers may find one of the following on their 2018 Dodge Challenger – R/T side stripes, Shaker graphics, Scat Pack Bumblebee stripes, SRT twin racing stripes, the T/A graphics and badges, the Hellcat head logo, or the Demon head logo, and these are just a few of the features and options available. Past aesthetics, the 2018 Dodge Challenger lineup has a wide selection of standard and available features.

For instance, automatic headlamps and LED split tail lamps are standard across the lineup, but only the Challenger T/A series, SRT Hellcat, and SRT Demon have illuminated air catcher headlamps. In addition, many trims may have an auto-dimming rearview mirror, exterior heated mirrors, and solar control glass, whereas only select trims get finer, more performance-tuned features. These include dual rear exhaust with bright tips, a functional hood scoop, and a cold air intake system by Mopar Custom Auto Parts. Depending on the trim, a 2018 Dodge Challenger may ride on a variety of wheels, from 18-inch satin carbon aluminum wheels to 20-inch SRT aluminum wheels. True to Dodge heritage, several signature High Impact Paint (HIP) colors make up the ten color choices for each trim, fifteen for the Demon.

Interior Features

Inside the cabin of the Dodge Challenger, each trim is pretty similar so the driver doesn’t forget what kind of vehicle they’re in. There are varying choices for the upholstery, such as cloth or Laguna/Nappa leather, and a 60/40 split-fold rear seat comes standard for opening up cargo space. If looking for more luxurious items, mid- and high-tier trims may have a leather trimmed heated steering wheel, heated and/or ventilated front seats, dual-zone automatic temperature control, and a sunroof available for the 2018 Dodge Challenger.

The updated T/A series and SRT trims have exclusive features available, such as leather trim bucket seats with the T/A logo, leather upholstery with the SRT or Hellcat logo, red seat belts, and a leather flat bottom steering wheel. All SRT trims have SRT Drive Modes and a SRT instrument panel. For personalizing the interior, consumers may pick from two or four colors or color combinations, depending on the trim selected.

2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon

The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is a bit different when it comes to style. Aside from the widebody (also found on the new SRT Hellcat widebody) and aggressive design, the interior is pretty barren, beginning with the driver’s seat, trimmed in cloth. If looking for a more sporty feel, or planning to cruise around with friends, SRT Demon packages are available. These packages can trim the driver seat in leather, add on a cloth or leather passenger seat, a cloth or leather rear bench seat, a trunk carpet kit, red seat belt restraint system, and/or a power sunroof.

Entertainment

If looking for a little entertainment, then you’re in luck. Dodge was one of the first brands to get the all-new next-generation Uconnect 4/4C infotainment system. Depending on the trim, Uconnect 4 may come with an 8.4-inch touchscreen display or its signature 7-inch display. For those with compatible smartphones, Uconnect 4 is capable of Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto and can mimic the same display of the smartphone once plugged in. Available sound systems include a basic 6 (premium) speaker system (2-speaker system on the Challenger SRT Demon), a 9-speaker system with a subwoofer, or an 18-speaker premium system with a subwoofer. Integrated voice command with Bluetooth, a rearview backup camera, and steering wheel mounted audio controls are a lineup standard.

Performance Pages

The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and SRT Demon come with SRT Performance pages, an app found in its respective Uconnect system. SRT Performance Pages allows drivers to track the performance of their car, track times, and a lot more. In addition, the Challenger SRT Hellcat and Challenger SRT Demon have two separate keys – one black key and one red key. The black key restricts the vehicle’s horsepower and the red key unleashes the vehicle’s full potential of 840 horsepower. To get the Performance Pages for the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, one will have to opt-in for the package including a better sound system with Uconnect 4C on an 8.4-inch display.

Safety Features and Warranty

All 2018 Dodge Challenger trims have advanced (SRT) multistage front airbags, supplemental side-mounted front and side-curtain airbags, active head restraints, traction and stability control systems, keyless entry or keyless enter ‘n go, a security alarm, and a Sentry key theft deterrent system. Select trims may have advanced safety features installed, such as blind spot and rear cross path detection, forward collision warning, ParkSense rear park assist system, ParkView rear back up camera, and a remote start system.
