Here is still another hand picked classic which again represents Joe Basil's tradition of excellence in fine automobiles since 1951.
1969 American Motors Javelin 390 V8 with a four speed transmission.
Prior to the year 1967, American Motors, then known as Rambler, was determined to remain manufacturers of traditional family vehicles. With sales slipping however and an increasing public demand for performance based cars becoming apparent, American Motors was forced to decide it was time for their company to dip their toes into the performance pool.
In keeping with this decision, the Javelin and AMX lines debuted in 1968. These two new sporty models were available with a decent number of high performance options. The engines available in the AMX were the 290, 343 and 390 cubic inch V8s and the Javelin base model was also offered with a 6 cylinder engine as well. Both vehicle lines were available with a standard or an automatic transmission.
The AMX was a two seat model offered on a 97 inch wheelbase chassis and tipping the scales at just over 3,000 pounds, making it a serious performance contender with the powerful 390 CI engine. The Javelin was similar in design but was built on a 109 inch chassis allowing it to comfortably accommodate four adult passengers.
By 1969, just over 40,500 were produced with just 17,147 of them equipped with the 390 CI engine but still fewer received the Borg Warner 4 speed transmission and positraction rear axle.
This beautiful 1969 Javelin is nicely equipped with the 315 HP 390 CI engine, the Borg Warner 4 speed transmission and the positraction rear end.
Further equipment includes aftermarket headers, power steering and power disc brakes. Taking a look inside the custom designed gray button tufted interior you find plush bucket seats, a wood grain steering wheel, an in dash factory tachometer, an upgraded AM/FM radio and that unmistakable floor mounted factory four speed shifter.
Completely restored, the flawless black paint complements the fluid lines of this body style as do the chrome bumpers, trim and Cragar SS mags which are accompanied by white letter radial tires.
The overall appearance of this Javelin is nothing short of stunning, the restoration was professionally completed on the low mileage rust free body of this one family owned beauty.
Come and have a look for yourself, you will definitely be impressed.
