Lea Schüller scored twice to lead Bayern Munich past Hoffenheim 2-1 on Friday. The win moves Bayern into the Semifinals of the DFB Pokal Frauen and ever-so-closer to the club’s first piece of silverware since winning the 2015-16 Frauen Bundesliga. This time, however, the Bavarians are currently eyeing Germany’s fourth ever triple (Eintracht Frankfurt 2x, Wolfsburg).

Bayern almost took the lead one minute into the match, but Martina Tufekovic was able to stop Linda Dallmann from up close to keep Bayern off the scoreboard. Hoffenheim returned the favor in the 18th minute, but the post and Simone Boye Sørensen kept the ball out to keep the match scoreless.

Schüller grabbed her first of the day in the 29th minute after a calamitous error from Tufekovic to give Bayern the 1-0 lead. She would go on to double the lead just after halftime in the 48th minute, heading home a cross from Hanna Glas.

Tabea Waßmuth pulled a goal back with a diving header in the 60th minute giving Hoffenheim hope of a late comeback. As time ticked by late in the game, Hoffenheim threw everything they could at the Bavarians, but Jens Scheuer’s team held strong, earning the 2-1 victory.

Bayern XI: Benkarth - Ilestedt, Boye, Wenninger, Glas - Bühl (87. Rudelić), Zadrazil, Dallmann, Magull, Beerensteyn (71. Asseyi) - Schüller (90.+1 Laudehr)

“We can still work on exploiting our chances - we’ve done better in the last few games. We can learn a lot from the final phase for the upcoming games,” Klara Bühl said. “hat we should keep calm, go through with the game and not let ourselves be unsettled.”

Bayern now await the winner of Saturday’s Wolfsburg vs. Werder Bremen match for the Semifinal which will take place on April 2 or 3. On Sunday, the other two quarterfinals (Freiburg vs. Turbine Potsdam and Andernach vs. Eintracht Frankfurt) will be played.

This will be Bayern’s first time back in the Semifinals of the DFB Pokal Frauen since the 2018-19 season. If the Bavarians do end up playing Wolfsburg in the semifinals, they’ll be looking to avenge FOUR STRAIGHT seasons of being beaten by them in the cup.
