The Appeal

The Willys Jeep CJ2A is a historically significant vehicle and a pioneering model in the development of the civilian Jeeps we know now. Its history is also deeply rooted in association with World War 2.
During the War, Willys-Overland, along with Ford had been one of the primary manufactures of the rugged and versatile 4x4’s. When the war ended there was a surplus of military Jeeps and these were either sold off or simply abandoned. Willys quickly recognised there was a potential for the Jeep within the civilian market and thus designed a vehicle that would suit. It was a hit with the market for a number of reasons.
There were several key features that contributed to its popularity. It was versatile, simple and durable. Its sturdy steel body, fold down windshield and removable doors, allowed for easy customisation and repairs. The vehicles reliable mechanics and straightforward design made it easy to maintain.
The success and appeal of the Willys Jeep CJ2A laid the foundation for the long standing legacy of the Jeeps civilian models which continue to be popular to this day.

The History and Paperwork

  • Built in 1947.
  • OBD is showing 97,949 kilometres.
  • V5C present.
  • Imported originally from Holland.
  • The Jeep was purchased by the current vendor in 2016 where it has been cared for it meticulously over the years.
  • Loved and cherished, with no expense spared throughout the seven years the vendor has owned the CJ2A.
  • Manuals, paperwork and stack of parts invoices.
  • The Jeep is in regular use with the vendor using it as a daily driver.
  • When not in use the CJ2A is stored in a dry environment.

The Interior

  • Simple uncomplicated interior.
  • Largely original condition with a few minor changes, such as a fire extinguisher and new seat backs and covers. The front seats are in great condition with both sets showing minimal wear.
  • Gauges, switches and electronics within the vehicle are said to be working as they should do.
  • The gauge surrounds are looking a tad worn but we feel this adds character to the vehicle.
  • The dashboard is very simple but looks marvellous and presents really well, with no marks or blemishes that we saw.
  • A heater has been retro fitted to offer some comfort in the colder months.
  • Nice condition door cards, headlining with little marks or damage that we noted.
  • Floor pan presents well with no signs of corrosion.
  • There some signs of patina to be aware of in the interior but nothing that is out of line with the vehicles age.

The Exterior

  • Fair condition paintwork.
  • The overall presentation of the bodywork is good but there are some marks which is to be expected with a vehicle of this age.
  • The body panels look nice with no signs of damage or corrosion that we saw.
  • As far as we can tell the glass and sills on the front windscreen are in overall good condition and are presenting well.
  • Badging presents really well with little signs of corrosion and pitting.
  • All lights are presenting well and appear to be free from sun-damage or fading. The off-side tail light lens is broken and would benefit from replacing.
  • Convertible roof showing well for its age, with no signs of any rips or tears in the fabric or windows.
  • Tow hook fitted to the rear.
  • Steel wheels look fantastic, with no obvious defects.
  • 700 tyres place of the 600 offer a smoother ride.
  • Underneath the Willys, looks to be in good condition with no signs of heavy corrosion on key structural parts that we saw.

The Mechanics

  • Original L134 L4 engine.
  • A vast expenditure has been spent to ensure the CJ2A works flawlessly.
  • The Jeep starts first time and runs and drives as it should do.
  • Since the vendor has purchased the CJ2A the following has been replaced or overhauled.
  • Overhauled axels, transfer case, steering, brakes, carburettor, starter motor and water pump.
  • New drive shafts have been fitted, along with, bendix, ring gear, diff bearings, exhaust and clutch.
  • We are informed that a new 12V battery has been fitted too.
  • Visually the engine bay looks well used but importantly we saw no signs of any fluids leaking.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
