2003 Alfa Romeo Spider 2.0 T-S Lusso

Highlights

  • Beautiful modern classic
  • Full service history
  • Recent cam belt and water pump

The Appeal

The Pininfarina-designed Spider was launched in 1993 and received several updates during its life, none of which, tellingly, messed with the fundamentals of the pretty and distinctive shape. This example, a Phase 2b car, was produced in 2003 and has a full set of stamps in the service book with the last service seeing the cam belt, tensioner and water pump replaced in November of last year.
It’s been with the current owner since 2016 and has received a service from an independent specialist each year. He now needs the space though and so this is your opportunity to enjoy the summer months behind the wheel of a beautiful modern classic Alfa. Get your bid in now to make it yours.

The History and Paperwork

  • Registered new 9 May 2003
  • Purchased by the current owner May 2016 and stored in a heated garage
  • Serviced by Alfa Romeo independent garage every year
  • Last full service including new timing belt kit, balance shaft kit and water pump November 2021
  • Extensive history file containing numerous invoices and old MOT certificates
  • Owner’s manuals and 3 keys
  • Service book showing a full set of stamps
  • MOT expires 29 November 2022
  • V5 present in owner’s name though still registered to his previous address in Northern Ireland

The Interior

  • Tan leather
  • Upgraded DAB radio with USB
  • Chrome roll hoops
With deep cowled dials and tan leather seats, there’s no mistaking the origins of this interior but in case you’re in any doubt, the Alfa Romeo logo makes numerous appearances. With chrome roll hoops, it looks the business and there’s a practical side too with a lockable storage bin behind the seats.
It’s all in very good condition too and comes with an upgrade to a DAB radio with a USB connection. Reassuringly, everything in the cabin is said to be fully functional. Back in the boot, there’s a space saver spare and a full original toolkit. In all, it’s ready for you to hop in and enjoy the sunny weather.

The Exterior

  • Metallic lightning blue
  • Electrically operated hood
  • Excellent alloys with matching Michelins
Finished in an eye-catching shade of metallic blue and on pristine alloys, this Spider presents very well. On closer inspection, there’s some minor dents and scratches that a keen new owner may look to have sorted out but it’s still very usable as-is.
The wheels are shod with a matching set of Michelins, all with good tread, and the hood is clean and rip-free with a plastic rear window that is also undamaged and clear. The operation of the hood was proving a little sticky at the photo shoot after a winter without use but the seller has confirmed that this is now resolved and the hood is fully operational.
The underside of the car is also reported to be in good condition, having been treated to a coat of sealant.
Overall, there’s a few small marks but it wouldn’t take much effort to bring it back to its best and there’s plenty to enjoy in the meantime.

The Mechanics

  • 2 litre twin spark engine
  • 5 speed manual gearbox
  • Sounds terrific
Under the bonnet, the engine bay is clean and tidy and the motor fires first time. There is a cut out switch to isolate the battery for periods when the car isn’t in use, and an easy clip connector for a CTEK battery conditioner.
The seller reports that it goes, stops and steers just as it should and changes gear smoothly. On the road, there are no untoward noises, just the glorious exhaust note for which Alfa Romeos are rightly renowned. With a recent full service, it’s ready to go.

Summary

A fine example of the type 916 Spider that has been well maintained and is ready to be enjoyed, with some potential to lightly improve its cosmetics.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
