Peugeot Australia has launched a new mid-series variant for its small SUV range: the Peugeot 2008 GT.
Now available in showrooms, the 2021 Peugeot 2008 GT is priced from $38,990 plus on-road costs and sits between the current 2008 Allure (from $34,990) and 2008 GT Sport (from $43,990).
Like the Allure, the Peugeot 2008 GT is powered by a 96kW/230Nm 1.2-litre turbo-petrol three-cylinder engine, shuffling drive to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.
The top-shelf GT Sport has a higher state of tune – 114kW/240Nm – and an eight-speed auto.
Based on Peugeot’s Common Modular Platform (CMP), the GT includes the latest generation of Peugeot’s i-Cockpit layout complete with configurable head-up 3D instrument panel display, 10-inch colour touch-screen with sat-nav, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging and a particularly small steering wheel.
Other standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry with push-button start and proximity locking, fabric seats with a ‘leather’ effect, climate control, and gloss black and chrome highlights.
Over the Allure variant, the GT scores adaptive full-LED headlights with auto high beam, gloss black mirrors and black roof, front and rear parking sensors, a frameless auto-dimming rear-view mirror and the aforementioned infotainment tech highlights.
The standard safety suite includes active blind spot detection (ABSD), autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with low-light cyclist and pedestrian detection, advanced driver attention alert, distance warning alert, hill assist descent control, active lane keeping assistance, Peugeot Smart Beam Assistance, speed limit recognition and tyre pressure sensors.
A reversing camera is also standard.
The refreshed Peugeot 2008 arrived in Australian showrooms last year and rivals the Volkswagen T-Roc, Skoda Kamiq, Mazda CX-30 and Kia Niro, among a host of other models – including the Hyundai Kona that was recently crowned carsales’ Best Small SUV 2021.
