For some strange reason, a curious trend has started across the automotive industry seeing road cars turned into off-road animals thanks to the fitment of bespoke tracks.
Of the past three years, Nissan has released a handful of track-equipped vehicles but all remain concepts, partly because they would be exorbitantly expensive to produce. Perhaps inspired by these Nissans, a man in Turkey recently decided to create his own off-roader with tracks which uses a 1977 Renault 12 Wagon as its base.
The clip below doesn’t feature English subtitles but from what we can tell, it appears as though the Renault owner actually built the tracks himself from steel and four car wheels on each side. To control the vehicle, there remains accelerator and brake pedals but instead of a steering wheel, there are two levers which control the direction the car goes.
It’s hard to know just how capable the car is over difficult terrain as this video only shows it cruising over some shallow snow. What we know for sure is that the lack of suspension results in a very rough and bumpy ride.
We tip our hats to the owner because this certainly isn’t something every rev head would be able to build in a shed.
