The 2019 Nissan Micra gets two new engines as well as a new gearbox option, new warm hatch version and a new trim level – Micra N-Tec.
The Nissan Micra is a better car than you might think, and it’s now got more appealing with updates for the Micra for 2019.
Probably the headline act for the updates is a choice of two new engines along with a new N-Tec trim level, and there’s also a new Xtronic CVT ‘box available on the less powerful of the two new engines.
The first of the new engines is the 1.0-litre petrol IG-T 100 PS three-pot – replacing the 0.9 litre – which gets an extra 10bhp (now 99bhp) and a bit of extra torque, despite which economy and emissions improve to 50.4mpg and 105g/km.
The 1.0-litre petrol IG-T 100 PS comes as standard with a five-speed manual gearbox, but you can option a new Xtronic CVT ‘box which, say Nissan, comes with D-step technology which delivers a more refined delivery than many CVT boxes, particularly if you have a heavy right foot.
Also on offer is what Nissan are calling a ‘Warm Hatch’ with a new 1.0-litre DIG-T 117 PS petrol engine – a completely different engine to the 1.0-litre IG-T – promising a more spirited ‘drive’ with 0-62mph in 9.9 seconds (1.0 seconds quicker than the IG-T).
Micras fitted with the DIG-T engine also get a lower ride height, revised suspension settings, sharper steering from a quicker rack, new chrome exhaust tail pipes and 17″ alloy wheels.
A new trim offering for the 2019 Micra is the new N-Sport trim – Nissan’s take on stuff like Ford’s ST Line and VW’s R-Line – which comes with carbon style finish on the alloys and mirrors, gloss black highlights, privacy glass, halogen fogs, Alcantara seats with faux leather bits, rear view camera, keyless, and sports floor mats.
Despite the N-Sport’s sport pretensions it can be had not just with the new more powerful DIG-T engine, but with the new IG-T too – even the CVT version. It’s available in four colours – Passion Red, Solid White, Echo Grey and Enigma Black.
