Triumph - Spitfire 1500 - 1978

A fifth-generation example of the open-top British sports car. It is powered by a 1.5-litre inline-four, producing 71PS, which drives the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The car was originally delivered to the Netherlands on the 1st of September 1978 after being built in Belgium. The five-digit odometer shows 10,671 km, and the odometer is on its second ‘cycle’. Fifth-generation Spitfires used the body shell of the MkIV models, but were fitted with the upgraded 1500 engine, which was much more usable in traffic thanks to its increased torque. This example is finished in red with black ‘Spitfire 1500’ graphics and a black soft-top roof. It rides on 13-inch wheels, shod with Continental ContiEcoContact3 and Toyo NanoEnergy 3 tyres. Inside, it has black vinyl seats with white houndstooth inserts, complemented by a wood dashboard panel. Equipment includes a three-spoke steering wheel, Smiths dials, heating and ventilation controls, and a Blaupunkt Turin M 11 stereo which is equipped with a BlueTooth-dongle to stream music or radio stations. This example also benefits from the fitment of an electric fuel pump. A spare wheel will be included in the sale, along with its owner’s manual, a toolkit, a collection of invoices, and its Belgian technical inspection certificate. An original and rare hard top will be included. The hard top is finished in black (resprayed) and has been fitted with new rubbers and mouldings. The lining shows two tears and some discoloration. New bolts to fit the hard top will need to be added to make it functional. Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition. Specific notes from the seller include: small flaws on the bonnet, and a small tear in the passenger seat. The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults. The most recent service was undertaken at an indicated 10,250 km, when technicians at Collection by Vermant replaced the engine oil and installed the electric fuel pump. Prior to this, the engine oil was changed in early 2023, and in the summer of 2022. This fifth-generation Triumph Spitfire 1500 is a stylish classic British sports car, made all the more usable with the fitment of an electric fuel pump. This characterful roadster would no doubt be a fun companion for spirited weekend drives, and could also be an ideal first step into classic car ownership. The car can be viewed in Reet, Belgium.
