Michel Gaunoux dinner: (WC) PNP It breathed up nicely to show notes of savoury spice, brown sugar, tea, red cherries and a hint of soy sauce. It was tertiary and quite fine. Had good fruit and a dry finish. It was holding up quite well.

Big Al & Janelle's Spanish Inspired Blowout (Big Al & Janelle's, St. Anthony, MN): Medium red color. Splash double decanted and recorked until serving several hours later. Drank a glass plus over an hour. This was very pretty, showing the structure and character of Corton while in a fairly resolved place. Bing cherry, graphite, iron, dried earth and even more mineral notes on the nose. The palate is medium bodied, elegant with a satiny texture and fine round tannins, very tangy with tart red cherry and tart small red raspberries, iron, dried forest floor, and this wild sauvage character too. These wines seem to age forever, and it was fun to drink a Gaunoux where it really feels ready to go. 93+ to 94pts.

Kevin's tonight at Big Al' & Janelle's epic Spain inspired dinner. Felt like we dinned in Seville :) Almost missed this btl and caught a pour near the end of the night. This was more dinner party then hardcore wine geek event and I happily lost some of my wine focus while enjoying conversations with guest I'd not previously met and my wine buddy's wives who show up less frequently. It was fun to try a wine with btl age from this producer. I own 5 vintages of this myself all from '05-'12 so fun to taste one this far back. This was fully resolved, elegant w/ rich dark fruit, irony mineral & underbrush. Very tasty but I was running out of gas and this came a bit late for me.

There's a stewed note on the fruit yet the palate and nose are somewhat autumnal. Another taster mentioned it might be heat damaged. Not undrinksble but not very enjoyable either.

1993 survey, or filling a hole with Chave (Chicago, IL): Very much a farmer-forward wine. Backwards and tannic, with lots of structure and plenty of barnyard. Unfortunately the TCA really detracted from the experience.
