1967 Pontiac GTO Coupe 

It was inspired by the Ferrari 250 GTO, and since Ferrari had not patented the name in North America, it was free to use.  Although many believe that GTO stands for Gran Turismo Omologato, ("grand tourer homologated").  Pontiac enthusiasts contend it stands for "Pontiac Grand Tempest Option".

For consignment, and your eye candy enjoyment, a Resto-Mod version of the 1967 Pontiac GTO with a build book and its PHS documentation.  It has been 12 years in the making, but it was worth the wait as now its complete and ready to do some ground pounding and showing off.  Signet Gold paint, Boyd Coddington wheels, and a consigner stated 408 cubes with plenty of mods for even more performance, we look like a way back machine… Only doing so in real style and massive power!

Exterior
This writer's favorite version of the venerable GTO, the Pontiac division got it all right this year.  Stacked dual headlights framed with pristine mirror-like bezels flank the iconic split grille with signal lights and GTO badging, and a lower bumper with nary a mark or dimple on it.  Looking down the line towards the rear we can see only straight steel, well minded gaps, and miles of Signet Gold paint covering broken up by a lower stainless rocker cover thanks to all the former rust being cut out and remediated.  On the front quarters are angled ever thinning decal stripes in just a shade of darker gold.  A long straight scooped hood backs up to clean glass all around all framed by shiny polished trim.  Moving to the back a long laser straight trunk lid curves downward to the foursome of horizontal thin rear tail light clusters, and more gorgeous framing of chromed trim and a snappy rear bumper.  Lest we forget, an all steel top also in Signet gold, covers the passengers and presents with all crystal clear glass.  Our consignor notes that much of the chrome is factory original and rechromed and the stainless trimmings are restored original parts.  Throw in some 17-inch Boyd Coddington polished surfers cross-esque 5 spokes and wrap them in 225/55R127 rubber in front and 235/55R167 on back and we are ready to live it up in 1967 style.  Go goat!

Interior
You can take this interior to the bank in black…the vinyl is just beautifully redone, well preserved and pristine.  Door panels, front low back tuck and roll vinyl buckets and the rear bench are like new.  A wood appliqué  topper covers the center console which races through the front buckets making room for a Hurst manual shifter and goes forward to hide under the original dash.  The dash itself has a wood appliqué front with sweet inset sweep circular gauges, some knobs and pulls in chrome and a retro modern AM/FM cassette radio.  The top of the dash is padded black vinyl and is nearly perfect.  A factory 3 spoke wood rimmed steering wheel fronts the appliqué.  Black carpet floods the floors along with carpeted Pontiac embossed mats in gold accenting.  The headliner is perfect in charcoal gray and it has a working interior light in the center.  Life just does not get any better with this snappy restored and rebuilt interior.  Add goat bleating here!

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a snazzy monster rebuilt 408ci mill, circa 1972.   This consignor stated this mill puts out 475hp however there is no documentation, so we will take his word for it.  The mill has Wenzel aluminum heads and a quick fuel 750cfm 4-barrel carburetor on top.  The hoses are all supple and shiny, and no corrosion on any parts is seen.  A 4-speed manual Muncie M20 tranny is on back and has a Hayes aluminum flywheel and Centerforce clutch.  Backing this all up is a 12 bolt posi trac rear axle with 3.42 gears from an Oldsmobile W30 that make this runner have the ability to get down the road in two shakes of a lamb's tail, (or is it a goat's?!).

Undercarriage
Very clean rust-free frame and floor pans are noted underneath with the frame, radiator support and all supporting steel having been powder coated.  The 2-1/2-inch exhaust runs from stern to bow and is in excellent condition and runs rearward from a set of Doug's Headers.  Power disk brakes courtesy CPP are on all 4 corners and the car has a muffler delete for some extra growl.  Independent coil springs are upfront and a 4 link with coil springs are oil back.  The suspension features lowering springs and spindles. 

Drive-Ability
Our muscle car aficionado took the wheel and gave a 3 thumbs up to this car as to its drive-ability.  It lit right up, idled smoothly, and took off like a bolt of lightning.  He reported it handled well, came to a quick stop, and was comfortable to drive.  This goat will “butt” in at any chance it gets.  He found as functions working as they should be at the time of the drive.

This goat has had a complete makeover and now borders on rest-mod status.  It has been spending its time garaged, and used but then put away nicely.  Fab exterior paint with a glowing gold shine, a super duper engine, well done with a 4-barrel carb, and a 4-speed drivetrain, we now have a whole different animal in our Hallowed Halls of Classic Auto Mall.  Im butting in line for this one.
