Classic Car Addict is excited to present this 1972 Jeep CJ5 Renegade for sale in our Mesa| AZ showroom. You dont have to know much about Jeeps to know about CJ-5s. They were built from 1954 to 1983| but only a tick over 603|000 were made in that time. And yet these things seem to be all over the place. But thats because unless youre a Jeep connoisseur| you may not always be able to tell the difference between the many models. Originally| Jeep was owned by Willys Motors. Come 1955| it was a part of Kaiser Industries| which is also when the CJ-5 was still new| and the CJ-6 was introduced. But in 1970| Kaiser sold the company to American Motors (AMC)| and they decided that it was time for a change. Previously| Kaiser had used a Buick 225-ci V6 for some of their Jeeps. But AMC wanted to run their own motors in their vehicles| so in 1972 they introduced a 304-ci V8. This Jeep has that motor. Of course| getting a V8 under the stock hood just wasnt going to work. So| they took the front end and lengthened the sheet metal five inches| while pushing the underlying chassis forward another three. These CJ5 interiors are a simple as they get. Driver seat does have a rip towards the top| passenger seat is in great shape. Gauges are in working order and an additional Auto gage auto meter tach was mounted as well. It also has the locked center console as well as two cup holders. The horn and windshield wipers do not work. Body Color #508 Renegade Orange| blackout hood center| Renegade racing stripes & vinyl wheel lips all in great shape. This is not original factory paint| has been resprayed at some point. Front driver side blinker lens light does need to be replaced. Does have soft half doors and a Bimini top with rollbar/grab-handle/mirror posts and front seat mounts. The adjustments to the 1972 CJ-5 helped it fit well into the 1970s SUV market. The two-door open body SUV has a manual 4-speed gearbox with a part-time 4x4 traction with the front wheel available for off-road while the rear wheels are permanent. The CJ-5 Renegade was an updated variation of the 1972 CJ-5 that ran on AMCs 304 V8 engine. The Renegade had a similar build to the 232 models| but the engine was a 303.9ci V8 that produced 150-hp at 4|200 rpm and had a 245 lb.-ft of torque at 2|500 rpm. Despite being one of the leading vehicles in Jeep History| the 1972 Jeep CJ-5 is also high on the list of Jeep models you have forgotten about. This SUV is one of the most impressive vehicles to come out of the 1970s. Dont miss out on this one| call Classic Car Addict today at 480-256-1459.
