Description

Jeep CJ 5 universal SN 280270, sold new in Italy, year of manufacture 1971, registered in Italy in 1974, rare as not many civilian first series Jeep CJ 5s had been imported. This car has always remained in Sardinia and had only one owner until 5 years ago, when it was bought by a collector who restored it completely, starting with the chassis.

Fitted with 5 new rims and tyres, new original 'Best top' fabric hood.
Below is a list of the work carried out:
The F134 (2.2 L) Hurricane mixed-valve engine is still being run in, it has been rebuilt from the ground up with cleaning and grinding of the cylinder block; new head, shaft, pistons and rings; new valves and springs; new carburettor and distributor;
new PCV valve;
overhauled T90 gearbox, cleaned and repainted case;
Dana 18 reduction gear, as above;
Dana 27 front axle, replaced pinion and ball seals, sandblasted and painted housing;
Dana 44 rear axle, replaced bearings, wheel and pinion oil seals, sandblasted and painted housing;
completely new brake system, pump and cylinders, including hoses and hard lines, new brake shoes;
overhauled alternator (bearings);
new starter motor;
new radiator;
new water pump;
new instruments;
largely rebuilt electrical system, replaced connections;
new headlamps and lights.
Built in Toledo, USA in July 1971.
Inspected and tested at the motor vehicle office on 23/10/2020 and delivered with a new inspection.
Currently registered as truck, can be converted to car.
Painstaking 'frame off' total restoration, every single part has been serviced or replaced, everything has been stripped out and restored as new;
sandblasted, insulated body, the parts with rust through have been replaced with new sheet metal pieces;
sandblasted, insulated and painted chassis;
cleaned and graphitised leaf springs;
new shock absorbers.
Some more modern accessories were fitted to enhance the car: rims, tyres and upholstery.
At the moment, the tyres are not listed in the registration, but if needed they will be type-approved in the registration booklet.
