Story

The Range Rover project, initially codenamed "Velar," began in the late 1960s.

Engineers worked to create a vehicle that could perform well off-road while also being comfortable and stylish.

The design for the Range Rover's distinctive boxy shape was created by Charles Spencer King, and it featured a distinctive split tailgate.

The Range Rover Classic made its official debut on June 17, 1970. It was initially introduced as a three-door model.

The three-door design featured a relatively short wheelbase and only two doors on each side.

It was powered by a 3.5-liter V8 engine and featured full-time four-wheel drive.

The Range Rover Classic was groundbreaking at the time because it combined rugged off-road capability with a level of luxury and comfort previously unseen in off-road vehicles.

It was intended for both urban and off-road use, making it a versatile choice for a wide range of customers.

Over the years, the Range Rover Classic underwent several updates and improvements. In 1981, a four-door version was introduced, increasing the vehicle's practicality.

It featured various engine options and modern amenities like air conditioning and leather upholstery.
