Description

About this Collectable

The 231 hp Carrera 3.2 was the final stap in the evolution of the original 911, with the largest naturally aspirated engine in the classic 911. In this beautifully finished convertible you can enjoy all of this with the roof open.

The classic 911 had been in production for an impressive 25 years before the 964 arrived. Of course, Porsche continuously improved the 911 step by step. The last step in the evolution of the classic 911 was the Carrera 3.2.

It's unthinkable today, but back in the 80s, Porsche was actually about the discontinue the 911. However, it was decided to give the 911 another chance and the Carrera 3.2 was developed. It turned out the 911 was still relevant, and it has been untill today. All of that could have turned out very differently if it wasn't for the Carrera 3.2.

The 3.2 was introduced in 1984 as the successor to the 911 SC, which had a 3.0 liter engine. Porsche thoroughly overhauled this engine, because the 3.2 was 80% new. This is the largest naturally aspirated engine the can be found in the classic 911.

That means that you have 231 horsepower at your disposal in this 911. According to the manufacturer, you can reach 100 km/h in 6,1 seconds. However, Porsche always was rather modest with their claims, so in reality you can be even faster. Whilst you enjoy the raw boxer sound with the roof open...

The 3.2 block has more power, but at the same time it is a lot more efficient and economical. This is thanks to the new Bosch engine management system with electronic injection and ignition. This was an important innovation on the 911 at the time.

Despite the novelties under the hood, it is still a classic 911 in terms of looks. This example is finished in the very beautiful color Prussian Blue Metallic with a dark blue roof. Naturally, this 911 is equipped with the legendary Fuchs rims. The car is still completely original, so the looks are completely right.

The car was originaly delivered in Germany, but was brought to the Netherlands in 2003. As it has covered 247.700 km by now, there have been a few major services. For example, the clutch was replaced at 186.300 km and the car received an engine overhaul at 191.500 km. This was carried out by Porsche specialist Visser (invoices available).

Our opinion

Classic 911 lines, a rasping boxer and in a great color that only gets better with the sun on it. These 911's still drive amazingly well and are compact enough for maximum enjoyment on B-roads.

This specific example has a mileage that will not scare Porsche enthusiasts, if well maintained. And given the invoices, both the current and previous owners have done that. Obviously some signs of wear, but the owner has taken this into account with his asking price. The sun is already shining, roof down, this 911 is ready for the start of the season!

Remarks
There are some signs of use, documented on the photos at thecollectables.nl:
Light wear on the side of the driver's seat
Very minor damage to the headlight glass on the left
A Porsche specialist drew the owner's attention to a suspected damage to the front left at some point in the past. It is not visible to the average person (not from the outside anyway) and given the driving characteristics, it was professionally repaired at the time. The specialist based his conclusion on a non-original weld. Apart from that, there is nothing abnormal visible or noticeable.

In 2006, the left rear screen was damaged. This has been repaired by Porsche specialist Car Service Visser (invoice present).

Service history

The most important points from the recent service history are:
May 8, 2021 - approx. 246.000 km - Autobedrijf Duijzer: rear brake pads replaced, passenger seat padded, oil change, among other things
July 27, 2020 - approx. 244.000 km - Autobedrijf Duijzer: major maintenance, brake line replaced, electrical control roof renewed, rims restored, new tires (Michelin Pilot Sport 4)
On May 25, 2007, an engine overhaul was carried out at 191.486 km at Porsche specialist Car Service Visser. In 2006 the clutch was replaced at 186.317 km.
