1937 Chrysler Imperial Series C-14 Convertible Coupe

Walter P. Chrysler began his career as a railroad mechanic. He earned a mechanical degree through a correspondence course and worked with William Durant at General Motors. He left General Motors in 1919 and cashed in all of his stock, which was worth over $10 million. This allowed him to become one of the wealthiest men in the United States. He would then start the Chrysler Corporation in 1925.

The Imperial was first produced by Chrysler in 1926 as their top-of-the-line prestige model. The Imperial would continue to be the flagship model for Chrysler for many years. Among the innovations for 1937, it included a safety interior with all instrument panel controls mounted flush to the dashboard. Built in defroster vents was also a standard feature.

This particular model was built in Detroit, Michigan on April 28th of 1937, and was shipped on May 6, 1937, to Schaefer Auto Sales, Inc. in Bronx, New York. It includes optional chrome wheel discs, a clock, and a special steering wheel.

This automobile was found in an unrestored state in Dunlap, Tennessee in 2014. It has been restored to its original glory with an Everglades Red exterior and Oxblood Red leather interior with a black convertible roof with Oxblood Red trim. Only 244 convertible coupes were built in 1937, and this is one of six currently known to exist.
